Today were reviewing part number em05001 from Erickson. This is a snowmobile emergency tow strap with hooks. The nylon webbing is 1 inch wide and 10 feet long, and I hope you can see this, but where the pieces come together, the pieces of the strap come together, its double lock stitched for strength. So what happens is when your snowmobile is stuck or disabled, you attach this heavy steel hook to the tow vehicle and that could be another snowmobile, an ATV or a UTV. So you attach that. It does have a very strong metal keeper right here.
Thats an extra safety feature to keep it from disconnecting, and then at both ends of the 10 foot strap you have these hooks and loops so you run this through, each end of the strap youve run through the ski handle on the snowmobile. So you run that through and then you attach the loop, just open the hook like that and slide it together. So thats how you do on both sides; run it through the ski handle and then attach the loop with the hook, and thats how youre going to pull out your snowmobile from its unfortunate situation. The maximum break strength on this webbing is 750 pounds. The maximum weight of the snowmobile that youre going to tow out is 375 pounds.
And, thats it for part number em05001, the Erickson Emergency Snowmobile Tow Strap.

Inevitably one of the people I ride with, usually the guy who never does any PM on his machine, breaks down and needs to be towed back to the trailer. You know that guy - he is the guy who wrecks your day on the snow. We always jury rig a tow strap. This year I thought that I would be prepared and buy this handy dandy tow strap and add it to my kit. For $10.00 this is a nice strap with a substantial hook on the tower's end. The hooks for the towed machine's skis look like they will do the job and make it a lot faster than threading a rope through them.
Not quite what I expected, but it looks like it will do the job, on groomed trails, but have my doubts off trails in powder.....
The first and only time I tried using it was to pull my son out of deep powder. Besides being to short in length to accomplish the objective, it seemed to be a bit confusing to use. I’ve watched some tutorials and now realize how to use it. Overall I cannot pass too much judgement as I only attempted to use it once. I’m sure I’ll try but again.
They were great. So glad we purchased
