Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Video Transcript for etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Nissan Rogue

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Nissan Rogue, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Etrailer Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number E98846. So here's what our hitch is going to look like once we have it installed on our Rogue. The cross tube is going to be tucked up behind the bumper nicely, and all we're going to see is that receiver tube sticking out. Now it is a Class III hitch, which means it's going to give us that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is going to be great for all kinds of a variety of accessories all the way from a ball mount, bike rack, or even cargo carrier. The way that we're going to mount any of our accessories is through the hitch pin hole here on the side. It is going to accept a standard 5/8 pin and clip. While they're not included in the kit, you can pick them up here at etrailer.com.

The safety chain connection points are going to be a loop style welded to the bottom of the receiver tube. As you can see, we're not going to have too much trouble getting most size hooks on or off, because we're going to have plenty of room to get them hooked on, and have plenty of room to make any kind of adjustments, so they don't interfere with our hitch pin or locking device. Our hitch is going to have a 525 pound tongue weight, which is going to be the maximum downward force at the receiver tube. It's also going to have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating, which is going to be the amount that it can pull, including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it. Now with those numbers in mind, I always recommend that you double check your Rogue's owner's manual, and you never exceed the manufacturer's recommended towing weight.Like to give you a few measurements and that's going to help you when looking for accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outermost edge of the bumper is going to be right about five inches.

That measurement's going to come in handy whenever you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have adequate clearance and it isn't going to come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it's going to be right about 13-3/4 inches. That measurement's not only going to come in handy when you're looking at ball mounts to pick the appropriate rise or drop to match up to your trailer, but at that height I would also recommend a raised shank on a bike rack or a cargo carrier, that way it gives us just that little bit more ground clearance. So now that we've seen what our hitch looks like, and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we're going need to remove the plastic underbody panels that are on the outside edge of the vehicle. So along the very edge here on the back, we're going to have several pushpin fasteners that we're going to have to remove.

So we can take a small flat head screwdriver and come in between the little notches on the push pins. We're going to pop out the center section and then we can pull the rest of it out. Then towards the front of the vehicle, right by the sway bar, we're going to have a phillips head screw that's holding it in place. So we can take a phillips bit or a screwdriver and we'll pull it out. We're going to have another push pin that's going to be vertically on the side of the panel towards the mud flap. Once we have all those removed, we'll go ahead pull the panel down and it won't be getting reinstalled.

We're going to do the same thing over on the driver's side as well.On the passenger side we're going to have this tow hook and we're going to need to remove it. There's going to be two bolts on the bottom side, as well as two bolts on the side of the frame that are holding it in place. So I'm going to take an 18 millimeter socket and pull those bolts out. It wouldn't hurt to get an extension to get the ones on the bottom out. We'll go ahead and pull the tow hook down, and it won't be getting reinstalled. When we come back over to the driver's side, we're going to notice that we're going to have several holes in the bottom of our frame. Three of those holes are going to be threaded, and have weld nuts on the inside. But since we want to make sure that our bolts don't cross thread and we don't have any problems getting the hardware in, I'm going to take a little bit of spray lubricant, spray it inside the hole. Then take a nylon tube brush and clean them out and make sure there's no debris or rust inside of there. If you need one of these tube brushes, you can pick them up here at etrailer.com. So I'm going to go through and I'm going to clean each one of these holes on the driver side, and then we'll move over to the passenger side, and clean the mounting holes over there. Now with an extra set of hands, we're going lift our hitch, going over our exhaust. We'll line up the holes in the frame. Now on the passenger side we're only going to have two mounting locations. That's going to be where we took our tow hook. We'll take one of our new bolts and a conical tooth washer, making sure the teeth are facing up towards the hitch. And we're going to get at least one bolt in hand-tight on each side, so the hitch will support itself. We're going to come back with a 19 millimeter socket, and I'm going to snug up all my hardware. And I come back with that same 19 millimeter socket, and I'm going torque all my hardware down to the specifications in the instructions. We'll repeat that for any remaining hardware. And that'll finish up your look at the Etrailer Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number E98846 on our 2015 Nissan Rogue.

e98846 hitch is a heavy duty quality hitch. I can confirm it is a 100% fit for 2020 Nissan Rogue. Video was good and clarified parts that needed to come off for installation. About forty minutes start to finish including trimming driver side plastic panel. I would recommend this hitch with no reservations. It works! 698436

I asked my step-son for assistance with the installation. Hitch arrived in good condition considering how badly the outer box looked. Anyway in less than 20 minutes the hitch was on and ready to be used. It installed easily since everything lined up as advertised. Highly recommended this for anyone who ownes a late model Rogue. 536248

It should have been a lot easier to install but when we got the hitch, it was bent/warped so it made it very difficult. I would have sent it back but I needed it by Saturday so there wasn’t time. 663679

Comments
When a trailer hitch is manufactured, a more malleable or softer steel is used in the side brackets as opposed to the harder steel used in the crossbar and receiver tube. This allows the hitch to flex along with the vehicle to a certain degree. The downside is that this flexibility can also allow the hitch to get slightly bent out of position during shipping and handling which is what occurred in your case. Luckily, this is easily fixed if you know a few tricks shown in the article Ive linked for you...

Excellent product; fit my 2019 Rogue exactly as described in the very helpful video; had no problem installing the hitch which took about 30 minutes (the holes lined up perfectly and I didn't even have to jack up the car or put it on a lift); especially satisfied with the expeditious delivery which took about 4 days. I plan to use it with the Swagman XC 2-bike rack platform style that I ordered from etrailer to carry my wife's and my bikes on vacation trips. 682081

At first I considered letting my garage install the trailer hitch but they weren't insured for installing hitches. I decided to install it myself. The installation wasn't bad at all. The product is well made and sturdy, heavy duty. 536246

Great hitch, great price, only thing is the shields you have to remove to install the hitch can be reinstalled! The right needs no modification, the left just need to cut out a 4 inch piece! THANK YOU 536169

Ordered the product for my 2017 Nissan rogue and it was delivered in 5 days. Fast and easy install. The only thing that was time consuming was running the main power wire to the front of vehicle. Overall it's a great product so far and the install video was very helpful 575898

The 2019 Nissan Rogue is slightly different underneath. There were no towing brackets to take off, and the driver's side plastic panel (with the pop-off nuts) needed to be cut with tin snips to go around the installed hitch. Otherwise, the installation video was a great help. Total install time was about one hour. 615687

Product painting/coating is good. No rust after 1 yr. Product welds are substantial. Not pretty, but since they are painted and under your vehicle - who cares?Product mounting plates were not aligned well - hence the loss of stars. The side which has 3 mounting holes was not parallel with the side that has two mounting holes. Even though the mounting holes were oversized to allow tolerance, the mounting hole and the frame hole were misaligned to the degree that I could not get the bolt to thread. Eventually, by using a particular bolt order, sufficient force, and using the factory Nissan bolts (which have an alignment feature), I was able to get it to bolt on. The misalignment was probably 1/2cm.I used all of the Nissan bolts I had because the heads allowed for greater torque to be applied, and they had the alignment feature. 536173

I am absolutely delighted about my experience with etrailer.com. My package was delivered in lightning fast time and packaging was sufficient to bring my hitch to my door in pristine condition. The included instructions were extremely simple to follow and I was able install the hitch on my 2013 Nissan Rogue in about 15 minutes. The instructions were extremely thorough and simple to follow. I think it must be said that I am not what most people would call "handy" so to say that I completed this job without incident is saying something.I will most certainly be visiting etrailer.com to purchase accessories for my hitch including a bike rack and ball-hitch.I also appreciate the the follow up and accessibility of the 800 number for support.Thank you eTrailer! 536157

Could not get all the bolts in, The hitch was bent a little but was able to spring it back in a large vice. (Extra work ) The receiver is slightly oversize causing the ball to move up & down a little. I slide a L shaped shim between the ball hitch & the receiver. 536218

Only problem I had was factory nut on my car was dirty or messed up but after cleaning the threads and messing with it I got the bolt to go but the hitch really did bolt right up looks nice very pleased with it and fast shipping 536241

The product fits my Rogue 2019 perfectly. However it blocks the sensors and prevent the vehicle from reversing. Had turn off the rear sensors. 595902

Installation was simple and the product was of high quality. Only concern is that the hitch appears to be blocking the sensor for the hands free foot operation of the rear hatch. Wondering if there is a work around. If not, this should be mentioned in the product description. 536232

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Nissan Rogue SV AWD
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2019 Nissan Rogue SV is the etrailer hitch part # E98846 because it has the matte finish you want, it has plenty of towing capacity at 3,500 lbs, and it has a concealed crosstube which makes it a bit less visible. Since you have a spoiler on your 2019 Nissan Rogue the trunk mount bike rack you want to use is the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top # HRF2. This bike rack was built with extended arms to specifically accommodate spoilers on vehicles. This doesn't come with locks though so you if you are wanting to add some security you will need a cable lock like part # e98891 and the Thule Passive Security Strap # TH533. If either of your bikes does not have a horizontal top tube then you will need...

  • Bike Rack Solution Recommendation for 2018 Nissan Rogue
I do have a solution that will allow you to carry a bike rack with your 2018 Nissan Rogue, but due to the spoiler you have at the rear of your vehicle you'll have to go a different route since there aren't any trunk options that fit. The option that will work on your truck and actually will give you an overall more secure and better rack setup is a trailer hitch bike rack. Aside from a much more secure attachment to the vehicle the rack doesn't touch the vehicle paint at all which helps...

  • Can Rightline Gear Cargo Hatch Saddlebag RL100B90 Install on Vehicle with Roofline Spoiler
The roofline spoiler on your 2016 Nissan Rogue (thank you for the photo!) is not intended to bear any weight so if you wish to attach the Rightline Gear Cargo Hatch Saddlebag # RL100B90 you will need to connect the straps to your raised roof side rails and then around the sides of the spoiler to avoid placing weight/stress on it. You also need to make sure you have at least 40-inches of space between the two tail lights so that they are not blocked. This bag has no security provisions...

  • Fit of Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Carrier in 2019 Nissan Rogue Hitch
Many bikes racks including the Saris Freedom EX # SA4412F that you referenced are smartly designed so that they can be used in either a 1-1/4-inch hitch or a 2-inch hitch. The aftermarket hitches offered for your 2019 Nissan Rogue include both sizes. These 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III hitches appear on the page I linked for you. You can measure the opening on the receiver tube to confirm which size you have (see photo, please). If you do not yet have a hitch on the Rogue...

  • Differences in Hitches Available for 2020 Nissan Rogue SV AWD.
All the hitches available for your 2020 Rogue would install in the same manner. The etrailer brand hitch, part # e98846 or the Curt # C13204 both have a 525 lb tongue weight capacity, versus the 350 lb tongue weight capacity of the Draw-tite # 75902. All three are compatible with your vehicle. The Curt # C13204 and etrailer # e98846 aren't recessed as far under the vehicle as the Draw-Tite model, so fitting hitch mounted accessories will be easier because there will be about 2-1/2 inches...

  • Solution for Carrying Recumbent Trike with 2018 Nissan Rogue
While I have a solution for you our roof bike rack manufacturers don't offer a solution for carrying any type of trike/recumbent trike on the roof since the bikes are so heavy it would be extremely difficult to get the bikes up that high without hurting one's self or accidentally damaging the vehicle. Plus a lot of vehicles wouldn't have the needed roof capacity for the weight. So the best option is a hitch mounted trike carrier like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Rack for 1 Recumbent...
