Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Video Transcript for etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Nissan Rogue

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Nissan Rogue, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Etrailer Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number E98846. So here's what our hitch is going to look like once we have it installed on our Rogue. The cross tube is going to be tucked up behind the bumper nicely, and all we're going to see is that receiver tube sticking out. Now it is a Class III hitch, which means it's going to give us that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is going to be great for all kinds of a variety of accessories all the way from a ball mount, bike rack, or even cargo carrier. The way that we're going to mount any of our accessories is through the hitch pin hole here on the side. It is going to accept a standard 5/8 pin and clip. While they're not included in the kit, you can pick them up here at etrailer.com.

The safety chain connection points are going to be a loop style welded to the bottom of the receiver tube. As you can see, we're not going to have too much trouble getting most size hooks on or off, because we're going to have plenty of room to get them hooked on, and have plenty of room to make any kind of adjustments, so they don't interfere with our hitch pin or locking device. Our hitch is going to have a 525 pound tongue weight, which is going to be the maximum downward force at the receiver tube. It's also going to have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating, which is going to be the amount that it can pull, including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it. Now with those numbers in mind, I always recommend that you double check your Rogue's owner's manual, and you never exceed the manufacturer's recommended towing weight.Like to give you a few measurements and that's going to help you when looking for accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outermost edge of the bumper is going to be right about five inches.

That measurement's going to come in handy whenever you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have adequate clearance and it isn't going to come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it's going to be right about 13-3/4 inches. That measurement's not only going to come in handy when you're looking at ball mounts to pick the appropriate rise or drop to match up to your trailer, but at that height I would also recommend a raised shank on a bike rack or a cargo carrier, that way it gives us just that little bit more ground clearance. So now that we've seen what our hitch looks like, and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we're going need to remove the plastic underbody panels that are on the outside edge of the vehicle. So along the very edge here on the back, we're going to have several pushpin fasteners that we're going to have to remove.

So we can take a small flat head screwdriver and come in between the little notches on the push pins. We're going to pop out the center section and then we can pull the rest of it out. Then towards the front of the vehicle, right by the sway bar, we're going to have a phillips head screw that's holding it in place. So we can take a phillips bit or a screwdriver and we'll pull it out. We're going to have another push pin that's going to be vertically on the side of the panel towards the mud flap. Once we have all those removed, we'll go ahead pull the panel down and it won't be getting reinstalled.

We're going to do the same thing over on the driver's side as well.On the passenger side we're going to have this tow hook and we're going to need to remove it. There's going to be two bolts on the bottom side, as well as two bolts on the side of the frame that are holding it in place. So I'm going to take an 18 millimeter socket and pull those bolts out. It wouldn't hurt to get an extension to get the ones on the bottom out. We'll go ahead and pull the tow hook down, and it won't be getting reinstalled. When we come back over to the driver's side, we're going to notice that we're going to have several holes in the bottom of our frame. Three of those holes are going to be threaded, and have weld nuts on the inside. But since we want to make sure that our bolts don't cross thread and we don't have any problems getting the hardware in, I'm going to take a little bit of spray lubricant, spray it inside the hole. Then take a nylon tube brush and clean them out and make sure there's no debris or rust inside of there. If you need one of these tube brushes, you can pick them up here at etrailer.com. So I'm going to go through and I'm going to clean each one of these holes on the driver side, and then we'll move over to the passenger side, and clean the mounting holes over there. Now with an extra set of hands, we're going lift our hitch, going over our exhaust. We'll line up the holes in the frame. Now on the passenger side we're only going to have two mounting locations. That's going to be where we took our tow hook. We'll take one of our new bolts and a conical tooth washer, making sure the teeth are facing up towards the hitch. And we're going to get at least one bolt in hand-tight on each side, so the hitch will support itself. We're going to come back with a 19 millimeter socket, and I'm going to snug up all my hardware. And I come back with that same 19 millimeter socket, and I'm going torque all my hardware down to the specifications in the instructions. We'll repeat that for any remaining hardware. And that'll finish up your look at the Etrailer Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number E98846 on our 2015 Nissan Rogue.

The 2019 Nissan Rogue is slightly different underneath. There were no towing brackets to take off, and the driver's side plastic panel (with the pop-off nuts) needed to be cut with tin snips to go around the installed hitch. Otherwise, the installation video was a great help. Total install time was about one hour. 615687

Solid product. It’s alittle off centered when installing it. I was trying to move it to get it more centered but no can do. 630935

The product fits my Rogue 2019 perfectly. However it blocks the sensors and prevent the vehicle from reversing. Had turn off the rear sensors. 595902

At first I considered letting my garage install the trailer hitch but they weren't insured for installing hitches. I decided to install it myself. The installation wasn't bad at all. The product is well made and sturdy, heavy duty. 536246

Wow it came in a nice package and was very secure. The product itself was a very solid piece of metal with a beautiful finish. Really heavy piece and I would definitely recommend this to anyone. 536250

My experience with etrailer.com was wonderful - their website is incredibly easy to navigate and the option to pick a hitch by vehicle type was great! The hitch was delivered in 3 business days and the instructions were very clear and the youtube video was an excellent reference as well. I will definitely be recommending etrailer.com to friends and family!! 536152

2017 Nissan Rogue

Installed it on my 2017 nissan rogue, very easy to do. Reinstalled plastic panels with a slight cut out on the drivers side one where the hitch is. More time spent running the wire for the lights from the battery under it. Have lots of zip ties on hand. Great fit, very easy install on the hitch. 602230

Installation was simple and the product was of high quality. Only concern is that the hitch appears to be blocking the sensor for the hands free foot operation of the rear hatch. Wondering if there is a work around. If not, this should be mentioned in the product description. 536232

2014 Nissan Rogue

The packing material and box that my trailer hitch came in was busted, metal exposed and part of the receptor end the paint was a scratched. Deciding whether to send it back or not. In the logistics business and under ISO 9001 this would be classified as a SDR (Shipping Deficiency Report). The packing and boxing material were not adequate for a heavy and bulky item as this. I would expect a business that sales heavy hitches to have better quality controls. 573503

Very knowledgeable and courteous. The shipping was quicker than I could have ever imagined. Ordered on a Monday afternoon and received the receiver on Wednesday. If you are looking, I would highly recommend etrailer!!! 536261

Could not get all the bolts in, The hitch was bent a little but was able to spring it back in a large vice. (Extra work ) The receiver is slightly oversize causing the ball to move up & down a little. I slide a L shaped shim between the ball hitch & the receiver. 536218

Only problem I had was factory nut on my car was dirty or messed up but after cleaning the threads and messing with it I got the bolt to go but the hitch really did bolt right up looks nice very pleased with it and fast shipping 536241

Had some install issues, but had nothing to do with the product. The weld nuts that are used to bolt up the hitch were severely rusted and needed to be cleaned in order for the hitch to be able to bolt up. Other then that, install was a breeze. Solid product. Should last for years to come.Clean all weld nuts beforehand to avoid any difficulty. That was the only install problem that I had. 536259

I asked my step-son for assistance with the installation. Hitch arrived in good condition considering how badly the outer box looked. Anyway in less than 20 minutes the hitch was on and ready to be used. It installed easily since everything lined up as advertised. Highly recommended this for anyone who ownes a late model Rogue. 536248

After doing some searching locally, I decided to purchase a trailer hitch for my Nissan Rogue from etrailer because they were about half price of the car dealership or the parts store. After I placed my order, I received a confirmation letter, was updated about when the hitch shipped (the day after I ordered), and when it would arrive. It arrived on time, was just what I needed, and even had free shipping! I will definitely do business with etrailer again when I need any additional parts. 536253

Product painting/coating is good. No rust after 1 yr. Product welds are substantial. Not pretty, but since they are painted and under your vehicle - who cares?Product mounting plates were not aligned well - hence the loss of stars. The side which has 3 mounting holes was not parallel with the side that has two mounting holes. Even though the mounting holes were oversized to allow tolerance, the mounting hole and the frame hole were misaligned to the degree that I could not get the bolt to thread. Eventually, by using a particular bolt order, sufficient force, and using the factory Nissan bolts (which have an alignment feature), I was able to get it to bolt on. The misalignment was probably 1/2cm.I used all of the Nissan bolts I had because the heads allowed for greater torque to be applied, and they had the alignment feature. 536173

Ordered the product for my 2017 Nissan rogue and it was delivered in 5 days. Fast and easy install. The only thing that was time consuming was running the main power wire to the front of vehicle. Overall it's a great product so far and the install video was very helpful 575898

I am absolutely delighted about my experience with etrailer.com. My package was delivered in lightning fast time and packaging was sufficient to bring my hitch to my door in pristine condition. The included instructions were extremely simple to follow and I was able install the hitch on my 2013 Nissan Rogue in about 15 minutes. The instructions were extremely thorough and simple to follow. I think it must be said that I am not what most people would call "handy" so to say that I completed this job without incident is saying something.I will most certainly be visiting etrailer.com to purchase accessories for my hitch including a bike rack and ball-hitch.I also appreciate the the follow up and accessibility of the 800 number for support.Thank you eTrailer! 536157

The first hitch I received was defective, the hitch not properly centered due to a manufacturing error. Then I was forced by the manufacturer to deal with them directly. I found this strange, since I bought it through etrailer. Several weeks later, I had the correctly manufactured hitch sent to me from the vendor, after I sent them numerous pictures of the defective hitch and serial number tag. This would've been a much easier issue to address if etrailer had been able to do so, rather then the manufacturer forcing me to work with them. 536263

Great hitch. Connects solidly to frame of car. I waited ~2years to get one installed so took some serious elbow grease to get the original bolts out and install this hitch but once we got it on I couldn't be happier. Given the nature of the Rogue's bumper(no cut out for hitch so this sits below the bumper itself) this does appear to sit relatively low and when I have my luggage rack installed it does scratch the pavement if I'm going up / down against a steep incline but no impact to car or hitch, just some scrapes on bottom of trailer. Could not be happier with service and quality of what I received from etrailer. Will continue to be a customer of theirs and recommend to friends and family. 536182

Bought a new 2019 Nissan Rogue SV last weekend, ordered this trailer hitch, and installed it this weekend. Fast shipping - less than a week to SOCAL. Box was beat-up when I received it but hitch was in perfect condition. Had a slight panic attach when I couldn't find the hardware but quickly realized it was taped to the receiver. Also had read in the Rogue Owner's Manual after I ordered the hitch that I would need an upgraded Electronic Control Unit (ECU) due to the liftgate "kick" sensors, but several experts on this site answered the question that it was not required - simply kick to the left or right of the receiver. Works like a champ! Took ~1.5hrs for my son and I to install (I'm pretty handy) but I didn't put it on a lift (lesson learned - would have made it a lot simpler and faster). Definitely need a longer (mine is 4") ratchet extension, too. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is that the holes didn't line up easily. Took about 20min of loosening bolts and wiggling around to get the last bolt to start the threads (less than 1mm off). Also had to cut part of the plastic fascia on the driver's side to get it to fit to be able to reinstall - no cutting needed on passenger side - so it was not simply "plug & play" like I was hoping it would be. Overall, a solid hitch and definitely higher rated than the Rogue can tow (3500lbs vs 1100lbs) but I wanted the 2" receiver to use my existing bike carrier on it. Probably won't use for towing, so I didn't buy the light wiring harness. Matte black finish is perfect to match the car's trim, too. Thanks etrailer! 643921

1 bolt hole did not line up with mount holes on my 2019 rogue. I could only use 4 of the 5 holes to install it. Nice hitch, poor quality control 643195

Comments

When a trailer hitch is constructed, softer steel is used in the side plates as opposed to the harder steel used in the crossbar and receiver tube. This allows the hitch to flex along with the vehicle to a certain degree. This flexibility can also allow the hitch to get slightly bent out of position during shipping and handling, which results in the bolt holes not lining up. The good news is that its very easy to fix this if you know a few tricks as shown in the linked article.

Okay. Ordered this and a wiring harness because I didn't want to spend a small fortune on a new pick up truck. My wife just go a new Rogue 2 days ago. So I figured let's do it now when it's new and rust free. The hitch was very easy to do. I didn't have a lift so I did it laying on the driveway. Did it myself. Everything lined up very well. The hitch itself is in the center on the Rogue. Took less than an hour and fit great. Didn't have to drop the exhaust. It fit right in there. The wiring harness I was unsure of. But I watched their install video twice and once I got going it was also very easy. I recommend both of these to everyone. I am not a mechanic but I am handy. Again, both are very easy to do. Thanks ETRAILER, I will recommend this to everyone I know. 643024

Hitch went on as advertised. Easy Peasy. Simply followed video instructions. Really nicely done. My wife an I were able to install with little difficulty. Lifting the hitch into position, around the exhaust, was the most difficult part of the operation. A couple of notes. It is not clear from the video whether or not the two trim panels that you remove should go back on. I decided to try anyway. I was able to put the passenger side trim back on, but not the driver's side panel. Finally, my Rogue comes with the auto lift feature for the hatch. With hitch in position, the area over which the sensor sees motion is reduced. We did find, however, that if you use your foot just to the left of the hitch the sensor responds as expected. 641218

Item appeared good until I went to install... Holes wouldn't line up on both sides. Took another look & found the mounting ear on the driver side was bent in about 3/8 of an inch or more. Luckily I happen to have a porta- power ram. I had to spread the ears out to straighten them. After that it bolted right in. Not sure if it was the heat from when item was welded at the factory, or shipping damage..? Luckily I had all of the tools to fix the issue, no grinding or enlarging the holes necessary. didn't even scratch the paint... 614351

Trailer hitches are intentionally constructed so that the mounting flanges and end plates are made of a softer steel than the crosstube and receiver tube. This softer steel allows the hitch to have a little give in it to move along with the vehicle as it traverses rough pavement. This can also allow the mounting flanges to be slightly bent out of shape during shipping and handling which is a fairly common occurrence. Ive linked to a help article that explains several other ways of moving a hitch back into position.

It works fine but the bolt holes should be elongated a little more, they don't quite line up. 611954

Comments

Trailer hitches are constructed so that the side plates have a little bit of flexibility to allow the hitch to flex along with the vehicle. Because of this, its not uncommon for the mounting flanges to get moved out of position during shipping/handling. The good news is that this is very easy to fix. Ive linked to a help article that explains in detail how to move the mounting flanges back into correct position.

  • When I looked up the owner's manual for your 2008 Nissan Rogue it said on page 9-20 that your vehicle has a max trailer weight rating of 1,500 lbs with manual mode or 1,000 lbs without manual mode. Either way your max tongue weight rating is 150 lbs. For a trailer hitch I recommend the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98846 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and is rated for 3,500 lbs max trailer weight and 525 lb tongue weight. You also need to make sure you have at least 40-inches of space between the two tail lights so that they are not blocked. This bag has no security provisions...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2018 Nissan Rogue
  • For your 2018 Nissan Rogue I recommend the etrailer.com Class III Hitch # e98846 because it has the highest tongue weight capacity and features a unique matte black finish that provides a rugged look that won't show scratches. This Class III hitch will install on your Rogue without the need for any drilling since it uses existing holes in the vehicle's frame. Its crosstube will also be hidden behind the rear bumper so the only thing that will be visible is the 2 inch receiver, keeping...

  • Will the Hands Free Liftgate Still Work with a Trailer Hitch on a 2019 Nissan Rogue
  • The hands free liftgate sensor for your 2019 Nissan Rogue will still be operational with the installation of an aftermarket trailer hitch. However, you will need to place your foot on either side of the receiver tube opening in order to activate it. This is the case for most vehicles that have the hands free liftgate sensor. There is only one model that requires a relocation bracket but that is not a Rogue. For a class III trailer hitch, I recommend using the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch...

  • Will Rear Hatch Sensor Work With etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installed on 2018 Nissan Rogue
  • The rear hatch sensors will still be functional with the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98846 installed on your 2018 Nissan Rogue. You will need to kick your foot to the sides of the receiver to activate the sensors but there is no tampering of the sensor necessary. I have added a link to an install of this hitch for you to check out as well as a photo showing what it will look like when installed on your '18 Rogue.

  • Tongue Weight Capacity of etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2017 Nissan Rogue
  • The etrailer.com trailer hitch receiver, part # E98846, does not require a support strap for its warranty. The hitch itself is rated and can handle up to 525 pounds of tongue weight but you also need to make sure your vehicle can. I looked up an owner's manual for the 2017 Nissan Rogue, which the # E98846 does fit, and it lists the vehicle's maximum tongue weight at 110 pounds. You're always limited by your lowest rated component, which is usually the vehicle itself, so adding a higher...

  • Will Rear Hatch Sensor Still Work on 2017 Nissan Rogue with etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installed
  • The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98846 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2017.5 Nissan Rogue. It will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation. The rear hatch sensor on your Rogue will still work with the hitch installed. The only thing you may need to do is wave your foot around to the sides of the hitch receiver for the sensor to pick up your movement. I have attached the complete installation instructions that you can also...

  • Comparing the Curt C13204, etrailer E98846, and Draw-Tite 75902 Hitch for a 2019 Nissan Rogue
  • The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver part # E98846 is made by Curt right here in the USA. The only difference between this and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13204 is that the Curt hitch has a glossy powered coated finish whereas the etrailer.com Hitch has more of a matte powered coated finish which we find does not draw as much attention to it. I have attached a photo comparison of these two finishes for you. When comparing the etrailer.com and Curt hitches to the Draw-Tite...

However, you will need to place your foot on either side of the receiver tube opening in order to activate it. This is the case for most vehicles that have the hands free liftgate sensor. • Bike Rack for 2011 Nissan Rogue that Fits Both 2 inch and 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch Sizes
  • It will always be better to go from a 2 inch hitch down to a 1-1/4 inch hitch with an adapter as the opposite direction cuts the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. For that we have the adapter part # HT02 which is a sleeve style adapter that makes the needed conversion. Ideally though you install a 2 inch hitch on 2011 Nissan Rogue like part # e98846 and then go with a bike rack that is designed to fit both sizes with an included adapter like the Thule Doubletrack part # TH990XT which...

  • Fit of Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Carrier in 2019 Nissan Rogue Hitch
  • Many bikes racks including the Saris Freedom EX # SA4412F that you referenced are smartly designed so that they can be used in either a 1-1/4-inch hitch or a 2-inch hitch. The aftermarket hitches offered for your 2019 Nissan Rogue include both sizes. These 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III hitches appear on the page I linked for you. You can measure the opening on the receiver tube to confirm which size you have (see photo, please). If you do not yet have a hitch on the Rogue...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Nissan Rogue for Towing
  • We have trailer hitches for your 2018 Nissan Rogue SV like the etrailer.com hitch part # E98846 which has a 3,500 lb trailer weight rating and would be able to possibly tow a very lightweight vehicle. But you'd have to verify that your vehicle also has the needed capacity. For wiring you'd then want the Tekonsha kit part # 118480 as it installs without hardwiring and has the most reliable converter box of the kits we carry. Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested...
