I have a 2018 Nissan Rogue. I need to add a trailer hitch to the SUV so I can put on a carrier for my mobility scooter. Just the carrier type that has a ramp and straps down once you run the scooter up the ramp. Id also like a swing-away arm if that is doable on this vehicle. I read something about tongue weight and got confused as to whether the whole thing is even possible. Can you advise?

The maximum tongue load is 110lbs on your 2018 Nissan Rogue per the owners manual. This means the scooter carrier you would use will need to weight less than that to be safely transported on the vehicle.

While trailer hitches like our own etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98846 will fit your Nissan Rogue and has a capacity up to 525lbs, that is always limited by the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. You will want to consider a different vehicle for this specific purpose if your carrier is not within the 110lbs of maximum tongue load for this vehicle.

I saw the question and have a followup. I have a 2021 Rogue sport with a 95 lb Harmer scooter lift. We had a class Iii hitch receiver we had installed. The scooter weighs about 200 lbs. Tongue weight is 134.9 lbs. The lift is within limits, but are we causing damage when the scooter is loaded? Are there better hitches for this?

@Wanda The class III trailer hitches available (Curt # C13377 and Draw-Tite # 76177) for a 2021 Rogue Sport show they have a 525lb tongue weight capacity. If you have either of these hitches then you have more than enough capacity. If not then your trailer hitch should have a capacity sticker on it so you can ensure that you're not overloading it.

@KevinC Thank you. But the problem I was referring g to is that Nissan says tongue weight is 134.9 Can I use a higher rated hitch on my safely?

@Wanda Oh, well yes, you would be limited to the capacity of the vehicle regardless of the trailer hitch installed. hauling both the scooter and lift could potentially damage your Rogue. Do you have another vehicle you could use or put on hitch on that has a higher capacity rating?
