Question:

Hello I am looking to purchase a trailer hit receiver for my 2020 Nissan rogue. I am wondering what the difference is between model C13204 and model E98846.

Hi James,

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13204 and the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98846 are nearly identical. They will mount to the frame the same way, have a 2" receiver, and the same 525lb tongue weight with 3,500lb towing capacity. The only difference between them is that the Curt trailer hitch has a glossy black finish and the etrailer trailer hitch has a matte black finish. The etrailer hitch has a protective base coat and then a matte black powder coat over it which makes it better protected from rust and the elements compared to the Curt hitch.

What are you planning on using your trailer hitch for?

@Perry There is a slight price difference, since the etrailer hitch is our house brand we can offer a more competitive price. It is exactly the same quality as the Curt receiver too so it's an excellent choice!

I installed the e-trailer version on my 2018 Rogue--it was easy to install and has performed beautifully- it looks great and l recommend it highly! I strongly suggest getting a hitch cover to keep dirt and debris out of the hitch reciever

I purchased a Curt hitch in 2019 for my 2015 BMW 328xi. It was light weight and had a 1-1/4 inch receiver. I used it strictly for my bike rack. It was perfect. I purchased a second hitch this year for my 2015 Rogue. It was a heavier hitch with a 2 inch receiver. Again, it was for my bike rack. I could probably tow a light trailer with it, but I’ve never tried. I don’t really know much about the part numbers listed or the two different types. My Curt was $125, the other was $175. Both are good strong well-made hitches. The one I put on the Rogue was much easier to install. I had to remove some plastic shielding between the bumper and gas tank, which I left off. The hitch fit perfectly to the frame. I did it by myself in about 30 minutes. The BMW install was more difficult due to differences in the two vehicles. I had to remove the rear bumper and mount the hitch between the frame and bumper. It took about 2 hours. Good luck with whichever one you choose. You’ll get a good hitch either way.

@BillH Hitch installations on European cars do tend to be more labor intensive, like what you experienced. European designed cars aren't designed around typical American trailer hitches so their mounting points aren't as accessible as other car makers. I'm glad your new hitch went on much more smoothly!

@ClaireH: can you help me select the right hitch for a 2027 BMW X2? I’m looking for a lightweight hitch with either size receiver. I’ve looked at your website and I can’t find one. One other question, will the hitch that’s currently on my 2015 Rogue fit the BMW, or do you make an adapter that will make it fit?

@BillH There currently is not an aftermarket trailer hitch available for the 2027 BMW X2, which is why we don't have any options for it. Because it's a new year, it's possible that they haven't confirmed a fit for this model or haven't developed a hitch to fit its frame if there isn't enough demand for it. The hitch that's currently on your Nissan Rogue is custom fit to the Rogue frame so it isn't a fit for another vehicle besides the Rogue. Your best option to get a hitch soon would be to get an OEM one from BMW directly.
