Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

etrailer.com Technical Support

4 stars because eTrailer could do a better job with shipping. The two extensions that slide into the bumper broke out of the box. I used black Rustoleum paint to refinish paint chips before installation. Since they stapled in some reinforcement cardboard, I felt they could have also reinforced the area of the box where it broke thru. I saw another review with the same damage.

Installation: Pretty much followed the video.
1) spread out a moving blanket to protect the bumper facia once removed.
2) if you have the small mud flaps from Subaru, reaching that inner most fastener is hard, but if you lift the car from rear/center point with a floor jack allowing the tires to hang, you can reach it easier.
3) if using silicone, don't apply to the outer part of the hitch like in the video.
4) apply to the metal bumper part instead as its hole is larger than the silicone square they made on the hitch in the video.
5) Be very careful to perfectly align the snap-in parts when reinstalling the bumper. If misaligned, you can bend/destroy a clip pretty easily when banging the bumper facia in place.

I agree with their install difficulty rating. You need two people at times to do this one right. We reused the original fasteners, they all seemed to work like new as we were careful removing them.

Overall, this is a great product and offers a snug/close fit to our 2024 Subaru Outback.

Arrived on time and in good condition. Instructions and guidance via YouTube video was helpful. I have all the tools needed to complete the job and saved myself the $$$. It went smoothly with no issues. Can’t wait to try the hitch when I get the chance.

by:

In the end (no pun intended), I am happy with my installed hitch on my 2023 Subaru Outback. However, I did have trouble during installation with the holes not lining up, which is why I gave it 4 stars. I was able to use a Dremel to enlarge the holes so they matched the frame and an angle grinder to flatten the corner so it sat flush against the frame. Otherwise, the instructions were clear and easy to follow (I did use the online copy that included color pictures).

It installed super easily! All the right hardware was included and the install video was complete and first rate! I saved like $XXXX over having the dealer install one at delivery.

That's savings worth noting, Jef! The hitch looks great by the way, what are you planning on using the hitch for?

With everything I’ve purchased from etrailer.com, you have been there step by step, showing in your install video instructions how easy it really is to install. And at the ready, in case I have any questions. I was searching for torque specs on the bolts before I got started and lo and behold it was in the instructions booklet included. Apnther successfully install. Unit was wrapped up so no scratches were found while unwrapping it and getting it ready for install.

This fits perfectly on 2023 Subaru Outback Touring XT. I have been buying hitch receivers from etrailers for years and never had any problems. These guys are fast to respond when I needed help or had questions. I had no problem to return a piece cause it didn’t arrive on time for a full refund.

Relatively easy install.
Good how video.
Good
time to install trailer lighting harness.
Fit and function with no issue.
Carrying bicycle rack daily.

by:

This fit perfectly, even though it was a brand new car. Fitment and instructions were spot on. We'll done!

by:

A year later and this is going strong. I've transported my CRF450X on it a few times and a friends motorcycle all via in hitch rail and it is solid!

by:

Great hitch with super fast shipping. Sales person Madison was very helpful. Thank you!!!

by:

This hitch was pretty easy to install (it was my 5th bumper removal install). The hitch came all chipped up from shipping which has been common with all my hitches. The install video is exactly how I installed it and everything went smoothly. Tightening the bolt in the frame above the muffler was a pain, so be aware that the right tool will help a lot.

by:
2025 SubaruOutback Wagon

Overall a solid hitch and pretty straight forward to install. Like other customers, it was delivered with the mounting flanges poking out of the box, but no damage other than some surface scratches. Only oh=ther thing I would add to the install is to remove the exhaust hanger bushings to lower the muffler in order to access the mouting bolts more easily. Otherwise the instructions were spot on and installation took about 2 hours start to finish, including the trailer wiring harness.

by:

The instructions were not correct for the part to cut out the bumper as I have a 2025 Subaru Outback Wilderness which has a different bumper than normal outback’s.

Package was delivered in a couple of days when I wanted it. The box was torn up a bit but the hitch was fine and accessories were all there. I’m sure it got thrown around on the way, not from e trailer. All good.

by:

The hitch seems well made. I appreciate the instructions and installation video. Like many before me the hitch arrived damaged which required me to touch up the paint before I could install the hitch. I can’t see why you can’t create a better shipping carton.

After installation, which was not very difficult, he said it looks like it was put in by the factory or the dealer so I take his word that it’s a very good product

Just got it. Haven't installed. Already though it arrived with many scratches and parts of the coating chipped off. About 20 or so dime size pieces of the rust proof coating were chipped off. I'm really surprised/annoyed that the packaging is just the hitch and no supportive/protective foam or really anything else to keep it from bouncing around inside the cardboard box. I already bought some rustoleum spray paint. I'll update this once I've installed it.

When the hitches are shipped to us they are shipped stacked together in large pallets which means that at times they arrive in less than pristine condition. You have already done what I recommend by touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint. It is beneficial to have the paint on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

  • Is Rivet Gun Required for Draw-Tite Hitch Installation on a 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon?
Hey Rhett, thanks for reaching out! Looks like we missed the mark with the video of the Draw-Tite Hitch # DT94YR on a 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon. The instructions do call for using a rivet gun and included rivets to reinstall the fascia so that's definitely something you'll need to do during the installation. The linked photo from the instructions is what you'll need to do. Thanks for bringing it up!

Thanks for reaching out! The closest hitch design we have to something that sits in the bumper on your 2020 Subaru Forester is the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT24YR. The crossbeam is installed behind the bumper and then there is a removable receiver so you can retain that OEM look when you aren't towing or utilizing a bike rack. If you'll be towing with this hitch then you'll also need the T-One Wiring # 118467 and I recommend the Eclipse Magnetic Mounting Bracket...

  • Does Installation of Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Require Plastic Rivets
Hey Rhett! I would go ahead and use the plastic rivets just to be safe. We probably left that out of the # DT94YR video since it is a minor step or we were able to reuse the old plastic fasteners that were initially holding on the fascia. It does say in the instructions that they are not reusable but occasionally that isn't the case and they still work.

The most hidden hitch I would recommend for your 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon is the Draw Tite part # DT94YR which will only have the lower hitch opening below the rear bumper. We actually have a few different hitch styles that fit your 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon and they come from Draw-Tite. If you go with the hitch # DT94YR then you'll have a cleaner looking install when you're done, but you will need to remove the bumper. If you go with the hitch # DT73RR then the install won't look as clean because you'll be able to see the crosstube, however you won't need to remove your bumper for the installation in this case. The Curt # C67JR and Draw-Tite # DT73RR and # DT94YR trailer hitches do all fit your 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon Wilderness but I actually recommend going with our etrailer version part # e25TR because it has the hidden crosstube for increased ground clearance like the other options, but more importantly it has a matte black finish that is more subtle but more durable than the classic glossy black finish the other options have. The two Draw Tite hitches that fit your 2022 Subaru Ouback Wagon part numbers # DT94YR and # DT73RR have different advantages but the best in my opinion is the part # DT94YR as it has a mostly hidden appearance due to only the hitch opening hanging below the rear bumper which also helps with ground clearance.
