Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

First--super fast shipping. I had the hitch in hand in less than 48 hours after I ordered it. The finish was very good--had a couple of small scratches on the bottom that I had to touch up to prevent rust. I installed this myself--with some help from my nephew to hold it in place until I got all of the nuts on--and it took more time to gather the tools and get the Outback up on ramps than it did to actually install the hitch. Saved hundreds of $$$ compared to what the dealer would have charged. This hitch does hang a bit lower than the factory and other hitches, but I couldn't care less about ground clearance and I didn't want a hole cut in my bumper cover. Unless you are looking at the side of the car from a distance, you can barely see this hitch once it is installed. I have only used it to use a cargo carrier, but it's worked flawlessly. Icing on the cake--etrailer followed up a year later to make sure I was happy with the hitch. You couldn't ask for anything more!

Two years in, and the hitch still looks like newno rust. As noted earlier, I only use this for a cargo carrier. Because it does hang below the bumper, the cargo carrier is lower which makes it easier to load my mower and generator and pressure washer. But the cargo carrier will scrape when I pull into the driveway. I usually just park on the street to install and loadunload the cargo carrier. But, I did just purchase a hitch extender to give a few extra inches of height which should fix the issue. As mentioned before, Id rather deal with this than cut a crude hole in the bumper cover of a 38K vehicle.

2021 Subaru Legacy

I wanted as heavy duty a rack as I could get for the new ebike and heavy rack the ebike made necessary. I probably should have asked questions before I installed it on my 2021 Legacy; all the reviews and comments I saw were for Outbacks, which have a few more inches of ground clearance. For anyone else considering installing on a Legacy, the installed hitch face is tucked under the rear bumper by 2.5". The bottom of the hitch is 6" off the ground. Both of those numbers work for me (watch out for really steep driveways and very tall curbs when backing) but they may not for you. We installed it in the driveway, no ramps or lift. Took 2 hours; we decided to pull both mufflers (4 bolts total) to simplify the installation of the hitch, heat shield, and re-installation of the mufflers on the hangers. I highly recommend that to simplify the installation.

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

Built pretty well, finished poorly. The design of this worked well on my Outback, though it was a bit challenging to wedge this in around the mufflers (XT, 2 mufflers) even after following the instructions. What really dismayed me was the poor finish - it was not well packed, the paint is thin and there were significant scratches all over. I touched it up with spray paint and if I lived in a rust-prone area I may have sent this back. It also came with Grade 5 hardware, which is a bit ironic since a Class 2 Curt hitch I later ordered for another vehicle came with Grade 5 (and nice powdercoat).

It seems I can only upload three pics; I have five pics of the scratches.

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

A great hitch at a great price. I admit it was a bit of work for this 70 year old to install by himself. The instructions were great and it's a perfect fit. I did not lift my 2024 Subaru Outback to do the installation. It would have been easier if I did. Removing the muffler, which I considered, especially being it is new and not rusted in place, would have made it easier to place the left side onto the two bolts. However, I did it and would do it again in less than half the time. As always, I'm pleased once again with another product from etrailer.com.

I ordered a 2 in. trailer hitch was shipped out the next morning and delivered in perfect condition on the date I was given. Was very easy to install on my 2024 Subaru outback.I did install myself, this was my third etrailer hitch I've purchased so I knew what to expect with installation. Would highly rated this company.

It mounted easily and there were no problems. Using for bike rack on Subaru outback, it was a bike rack that I purchased from you years ago. Now I have a new bike rack for ebikes from you on pickup.
Always a pleasure to order from etrailer, quick shipping and the right part.

Super easy install. Took 45 min beginning to end. Install tip was i wedged a screwdriver between the exhaust hanger and the hitch to hold it up while installing the nuts. That will make more sence when you're installing it. Clean install look. Didnt even have to jack the car.

Exactly as expected. It is use for a bike rack and a utility trailer and it handles both wonderfully.

The hitch appears to be well constructed, however both ends have large areas that the paint was chipped off on arrival. Will have to paint before installing to prevent those areas from rusting.

It is the cats meow! This is a very handy accessory for my Outback.

by:

Excellent quality, fit and video instructions. I installed it on a 2024 Outback Premium. I had also installed one on a CrossTrek. I use it for a 1up bike rack. In the Outback case the hitch reset under the bumper is just enough to fit the rack fully folded, leaving 3/16 of in inch clearance (see photo). A little tight but this keeps the rack unabtrusive. Bikes fit nicely.

etrailer hitch purchase was easy to get right due to their great informative website ….. their narrative videos are helpful in the selection and installation process.
Never would have guessed there was a choice with hitches …. DT73RR was the preferred choice ….. No body/bumper parts had to be removed and the tow pins are still accessible which was a BIG MUST HAVE for my tie down points …..
Company follows up with order that shipped immediately.
Will be ordering T-Connector light Harness to complete my towing capabilities.

Installation instructions were clear and the hitch mounted up easily. I've been using it pirmrily with a Kuat bike rack. Nice fit and and good quality.

It was a super easy installation. Tho it would have been easier if I had a lift to do the install. Probably took me twice the amount of a professional due to not having all the proper tools.

Just wanted to drop you a quick email to let you know that the trailer hitch you provided fit like a charm for my Subaru Outback! I used a floor jack to make the self-installation super smooth once I was able to figure out how to make the installation easy. It worked like a dream! The installation instructions were clearly written and thank you for providing the necessary aids to help with installing the bolts into the frame.

by:
2020 Subaru Outback Wagon

I would have rated 5 stars, but they fail to inform you that the hitches can flex at times in transport. The packaging was not very protected, just the hitch thrown in a box with no packing around it. I mentioned the flexing, as I did not realize this until 2 hours later trying to muscle the hitch in and no matter what I did it would not fit. After contacting customer service they made me aware of the flexing, and provided instructions on how to get it back into shape. I just wish I would have known this or made aware of this as it is not told anywhere in the instructions, or in the provided video. Customer service was great, and had the hitch not been bent out of shape the install should not have taken me longer than and hour

by:

Hitch arrived with bits sticking out on both sides of the box. No visual scratches after unboxing.

Was able to complete the install in an hour 20. Would have gone quicker if I had assembled all my tools and didn't doubt myself about the heat shield and take the hitch off and put it back on once.

Had the outback up on my incline ramps and the height was perfect for working and was able to manage the install by myself.

I did use a magnetic tool grabber to help pull the ends of the fish wire out of the frame tube. Feel this saved me some time.

I have previously installed the "under the bumper" version on my 2019 and liked not having to take off and replace the plastic with this one.

It so easy, I'd volunteer to help my neighbor install one on their car!

by:

Installed it myself on a Subaru Outback while the car was on the ground. I balanced it on a floor jack to help lift it into place. The video instructions gave me the confidence to get the job done. Lubricating the exhaust hangers is key to getting them off easily. Nice and sturdy product.

2022 Subaru Outback Wagon

In my option this hitch is way too short for my 2022 Outback. When mounted the receiver sits at least 3" under the rear bumper while other receivers I have had on other cars are even with the back of the bumper or even protruding a bit. My fold-up bike rack barely fits. I bought a Curt hitch from etrailers a few years ago for my 2016 Outback and it sits about flush with the back of the bumper. So if you have a 2022 Outback the Curt is probably a much better choice than the Draw-Tite.

As usual, a fast and easy transaction provided by etrailer. Box was intact and included all of the necessary hardware to install the hitch on our 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness.

by:

This is for packaging and install, have not used it yet. Arrived quickly and well-packaged. Directions were Spartan but clear and easy to follow. Would buy again without hesitation. Removed muffler instead of dropping the exhaust, since I don’t have a tool for the hangars. As another has suggested, it is easier to reverse fish the wire through the holes in the frame and put the hardware on after, rather than trying to find the smaller hole with the loose end. A creeper is nice. Having a crate or something to put the hitch on is really the only way to do this alone, but it’s doable. 2 hours install time, and I’m pretty slow in general.

We installed the drawtite class III hitch on our 2024 Outback Touring XT. XT stands for extra tailpipe!
This made the install a little trickier but we got through it. We hit a snag when we pushed a bolt and bracket back into the frame. After fishing unsuccessfully for 30 minutes, we found the solution. We went in from the top. Meaning we opened the lift gate, took the top tray off the spare tire, pulled the left flat panel and black styrofoam piece. There are 4 circular black, reusable “stickers”.
Pulled a couple off, shown a light from below and moved the bracket and bolt back into place!
Fitting all four tailpipe rubber mounts were a challenge.
All in all, glad it’s done and it looks great.

by:

Tightening per recommended torque settings my last bolt snapped. Now I have to uninstall the hitch receiver see if I can retrieve the washer bolt inside the frame of the car and re-install. CUMBERSOME and unsafe.

Fit great but the only issue was it fit so tight against the rubber exhaust hangers it was difficult to reconnect them but over all very good

  • How To Tow A Trailer That Has Brakes With A 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness
I can certainly help you out with using your 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness to tow a trailer. You will want to use a trailer hitch receiver like Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver 2" # C67JR which offers a simple no-drill installation. A ball-mount will also be needed so that your trailer can connect to the receiver and for this you can use etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500 lbs # 989900. Then for the trailer wiring you will want to first install a 4 way setup like Curt T-Connector...
