Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Audi Q7

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Audi Q7, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install, Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number: 76076. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. As you can see, the crosstube is completely hidden behind the bumper. The only thing you can see is the receiver tube. It has a nice slim design. It's gonna be a 2" by 2".

Your hitch pin hole here is gonna be 5/8" in diameter. This back hole here is for a J-pin stabilization device. What that is used for is any hitch-mount accessories you may have, it's gonna take the shake and play out of them. Unlike some of the other hitches that have a plate-style safety chain loop, or the ring-style that run across this way, this one makes it a little slimmer. They run down off the receiver tube.

You can see it has nice thick metal here to give you plenty of stability, and gives you plenty of room to hook up your safety chains. As you can see, with this particular vehicle, this hitch stays nice and tucked in behind the edge of the bumper so you don't have to worry about hitting your legs or your shins on it. However, you're still gonna have great access to your hitch pin hole, your J-pin stabilization hole. It's gonna have a 770 pound max tongue weight, which is gonna be a downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. It's gonna have a 7,700 pound max trailer weight, which is gonna be your trailer and your load included. Now, I do recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle can withstand that amount of weight.

And you're gonna want to pick the weight that's the lowest between your hitch and your vehicle. Now we will give you a couple measurements to help you when decided on any hitch-mount accessories you may need, such as a bike rack, ball-mount, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper will be about 4". From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube will be about 12-1/4".Now let's show you how to get this installed. To begin our installation, we're gonna have to remove this bottom part of this bumper here. To do that, there's Torx bit screws that are right here on the inside of the wheel well, and there's gonna be some on the bottom.

Now, we're gonna do this on both sides of the vehicle. We're gonna take a T25 Torx bit. I'm using a 1/4" socket. So we're gonna have two right here, and then we're gonna have one here, and one here. We're gonna remove these and pull back our wheel liner. So what we're wanting to do is, we're wanting to get access to this bolt right here. We're gonna be using the same Torx bit. Now that we have those off, we'll go to the other side of the vehicle and do the same thing. So now that we have the driver and passenger side wheel liners loose, and our inside screws from our fenders on this side, we're gonna have four screws right across the back here that we need to also take out. Again, we're using the same Torx bit, same socket, to remove all the screws. One thing we did notice is there are gonna be two more screws right here on the bottom of your bumper that will have to come out. We're gonna do the same thing on the other side of the vehicle.Next what we're gonna have to do is we're gonna have to pull this piece right here off. All we're gonna do is we're gonna gently pry on it. So to finish the removal of this trim piece here over the wheel well, there's two clips right here, and then on the top of this panel there's two open slots. Now I'm just using a flathead screwdriver to compress the clip so I can pull it off. Now, once we move this upper trim panel above our tire on our wheel well, what we're doing, we want to gain access to these two bolts. Again, we're gonna use T25 hex bit, it's the same one we've been using, and we're gonna remove these two screws. We're gonna do this on both sides of the vehicle.Once you have all of your hardware removed, we're gonna grab an extra set of hands. And you want to make sure before you start removing it, you put your hatch up. We're gonna start on the outside and we're gonna just gently pry it out away from the vehicle. We're gonna have to remove all these zip ties that run the wire across to the other side of the bumper. Just be careful in doing that, that you don't cut into the wire itself. Clipping the zip ties makes it a little bit easier to remove your wire; however, you do have the option to remove the whole clip. Once we have our wire disconnected we can start removing our plugs. Some are gonna be push-in, some are just gonna be single. The ones that actually go to your sensors, you're gonna make sure that that gray tab there is pushed up like that to remove it. And we're gonna do that all the way across. This clip's gonna have to be removed.Once you have all your wiring, your bumper's safely removed. We'll go ahead and set it aside in a safe place for reinstalling. Next we're gonna remove this bumper beam here. We're gonna use an 18mm socket, and we're gonna remove the four bolts on the driver and passenger side. Once we've removed our hardware, we can go ahead a pull our bumper beam off. Now, you want to make sure you hold onto that hardware and your bumper beam because we're gonna reinstall it with the hitch. Now, with a couple extra set of hands, we're gonna go ahead and set our bumper in place and then we're gonna take our bumper beam, we're gonna set it back in place, and then reinstall our hardware. Once we have a couple of bolts in place holding our bumper and our beam up, we'll go ahead and reinstall the rest of our hardware. Once we reinstall our hardware, we'll go ahead and tighten everything up. Now that we've tightened down all of our hardware, we're gonna torque it down to the specifications in the instructions. So our next step in our installation is we're gonna have to cut out the bottom part of our fascia so that our hitch will fit up inside here. We need to remove this antenna that runs along the bottom here so we don't cut it. And to remove it, all we're doing is we're just prying back these holders that it's in. We're just gonna set it out of the way. Next thing you're gonna do, per the instructions, you're gonna make your measurements. What I use is just a paint marker, mark my dots. I'm gonna use some electrical tape just to kind of give me a straight line. Once we have our line in place, go ahead and take a cutting tool. What I like to do after I cut it down, cut that piece out, is just take a razor knife and just kind of shave off this extra little stuff that's hanging here. Even though you're not gonna see it, it's gonna be underneath the car, it's gonna be a personal preference. The next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna reinstall wiring for our sensors. Now, if you remember, we cut zip ties off to remove that wire. What we're gonna do is we're gonna go around, just reinstall zip ties in all of our holders to make it easier on ourselves. Take note that the zip ties are not gonna be included in your installation instructions or kit, so I do recommend picking up some of them. Now we're here at our last two, and we're gonna have 11 of these to put zip ties in across the back of the bumper to hold the wire up. And then we're gonna have two down here at the bottom. One thing I do want to mention about this one here on this end is: the zip tie, we found out, is connected to the tab, so you want to make sure when you're taking it off, not to cut the zip tie, just pull the whole clip off. Now, with our antenna that we removed to cut this out, we're gonna go ahead and reinstall it back in our clips. Now, make sure you don't connect that until after you get it installed. Now we can start reinstalling all of our wiring. I'm gonna go ahead and connect this first one just to make sure I give myself enough wire here, and make sure I don't pull this too tight. And then we're just gonna work our way around and start connecting all of our wiring back up. Once we have all our zip ties connected, I'm gonna go ahead and go back through and we'll cut the ends off. Now, with an extra set of hands, we'll go ahead and reinstall our bumper. So now that we have our bumper installed, we're gonna reinstall our antenna. As you can see, when I raise it up, the line for the antenna is gonna go right over the back of the hitch here. We can go ahead and push it back into the clips. Once we have our bumper in place we can go ahead and reinstall our hardware that holds our bumper on. We're gonna do the same thing on the other side of the vehicle. So now that we have all of our bolts back in place on the outside of our fenders, we'll go ahead and put these bottom four in. Next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna put these two screws back in. Now, when taking off this trim piece, if these happen to come off or stay on the trim piece here, when you go to reinstall it you want to make sure you take these off and put them back in the fender first, before putting this back in.That'll do it for the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number: 76076, on our 2017 Audi Q7.

Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" - 76076

Average Customer Rating:  4.3 out of 5 stars   (6 Customer Reviews)

Fully welded vehicle trailer hitch is strong and durable. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. The combination of an e-coat base and a powder coat finish provides excellent rust protection.

This hitch worked out great. It's a pretty involved and time consuming install since the entire rear bumper cover needs to come off. Taking my time, I was able to complete the job myself. My prior experience in doing projects like this was extremely helpful. The instructions were clear with great photos. I used an air cutoff tool to remove the section of the fascia. I also used a dremel to do some final trimming after I had the bumper cover back in place. I'm really pleased with how this install worked out. 270048

Audi Q7

We put this on our Audi Q7 mainly for bike rack. It is strong and would be fine for pulling a trailer. It also was over $1,000 cheaper then getting one from our Audi dealer. I had a independent body shop put mine on for me. He charged $200.00 720079

2019 Audi Q7

I'm giving 3 stars because of the design of the chain attachment point - by making those two flanges vertical instead of horizontal the overall bottom of the trailer hitch is lower than the hitch on my minivan (which has horizontal flanges). I'm really puzzled why they would design like this. Not the end of the work of course but I have a drop off at the end of my driveway so I can't drive up with my Yakima bike rike installed. The video of instruction was great...although it took 2 hours by myself to install! Two suggestions based on my experience: 1) Whem removing the trim pieces around the wheel well the back section is connected using some tricky male+female rivets (as opposed to the the simple rivet design used towards the front). I'm attaching a picture to show what they look like so that you know what your trying to remove/disassemble. 2) I followed the instructions for size of the cutout in the bumper...but ended up having to make about 3/4 deeper to have everything fit properly. 704237

2018 Audi Q7

Hitch received in excellent condition, ahead of schedule, and fit without issue. This was a more involved install and the video instructions nailed it. While still a little time consuming, the install was straightforward thanks to the video. 643635

Still working great. A little rust inside the receiver tube but functioning well. Staying tight to the car frame. Pulling a 6500 pound boat. 600390

2017 Audi Q7

First hitch I received was defective and the bolt pattern didn't match up to my Q7. After several long discussions with customer service (with multiple people) I had to mail back my Hitch and wait for a new one to be mailed out. This process took 3 weeks before I got the new one. The new hitch fit great. 3 generous stars for average customer service. 362107

  • Is Trimming Required to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2018 Audi Q7
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13277 is indeed correct for your 2018 Audi Q7. If you take a look at the attached photo, you can see the portion of the rear bumper fascia that must be trimmed in order to allow for clearance of the receiver tube. You can also see the portion of the rear bumper fascia that must be trimmed for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76076 which is the only other trailer hitch receiver listed as a fit for your 2018 Audi Q7. It requires...

  • Why Cant 2019 Audi Q7 Use Weight Distribution System
The reason a 2019 Audi Q7 cannot use a weight distribution system is because the hitches that fit, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76076 and Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13277 are not rated for use with a weight distribution system; I can only render a guess but it is likely the OEM hitch is also not rated for use with one of these systems. The reason for that is the amount of torque on the hitch and where it is installed on the vehicle puts too much force on for the...

  • Can Sway Bar be Used with Trailer Hitch for 2018 Audi Q7
Based on my research, your 2018 Audi Q7 features a 7,700 pound towing capacity if you have the 3.0L engine. If you happen to have the 2.0L engine, the towing capacity of the vehicle is 4,400 pounds, so I do recommend verifying the limits of the vehicle by checking the owner's manual or asking the dealer you are working with. You will need to adhere to the weakest component in your setup, even if the trailer hitch itself has a higher rating. In cases when a weight distribution system...
