Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Nissan Rogue - Draw-Tite

Speaker 1: Today, in our 2018 Nissan Rogue, we're gonna be installing the draw tight class 2-1 and a quarter inch trailer hitch receiver, part number 3652. This class 2-1 and a quarter inch receiver hitch is gonna be great for carrying bike racks, cargo carriers, and hauling light trailers. The cross tube is gonna be hidden behind the bumper so you won't be able to see it, you'll only see the receiver tube sticking out the back. It uses a half inch fitch pen, now this doesn't come with the hitch but you can pick one up here at etrailer.com using part number PC2. It has large hoop style safety chain hooks so it should accommodate just about any size chain that you've got to hook on there. It has a reinforced collar for extra durability and features a 300 pound tongue weight, which is the force going down on top of the receiver tube, and 3,500 pound gross trailer rate, which is the pulling force behind it.I've got some measurements for you to help when deciding on accessories. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube, it's gonna be 14 and quarter inches. This is an important measurement to determine if you need a drop or rise when hauling a trailer or if you need a raise shank with your bike rack or cargo carrier.

From the center of the hitch pen hold to the bumper, it's gonna measure about six inches. This is an important measurement to determine if you need an extended shank so none of your accessories will contact the bumper. Such is any folding accessory like a bike rack. Now we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin your installation, you'll need to remove the panels on both sides underneath the vehicle, these panels here and here, to allow your hitch to go into place. To remove the panel on the driver's side, remove the clip at the back by the exhaust tip.

Another one on the inside here. And we can also set this panel aside as we won't be reinstalling it. And we'll repeat that same process on the other side. The toe hook on the passenger side then must be removed, it's held in by four 18 millimeter deadbolts. We'll take those out now. After you've got your last bolt out, just set this aside, we won't be reinstalling it either.

And while it's not required to install this hitch, lowering your exhaust down will give you a little bit more room to get your hitch up inside and positioned into place. If you do need to lower your exhaust for that extra clearance, you just need to remove the exhaust hanger here on the passenger side and the one on the driver's side. There is a third hanger here located here on the back that will give you some additional clearance beyond those two. However, it shouldn't really be necessary. And whenever you do lower your exhaust down, you do wanna make sure you put a strap on underneath to help hold it and support it up so it doesn't drop down too low to cause any damage. Now, it's a good idea to use some spray lubricant and a little wire brush. You can pick this up here at etrailer.com.

Clean out bolt poles make sure you don't hit any burs or dirt gives you trouble getting the bolts in. And you can do this on both sides just to make sure everything is cleaned out.Now we've got an extra set of hands to help us lift it into place. We'll first slide it over the exhaust on the driver's side. And then onto the passenger side. Once you've got it positioned and up over your bolt poles, place your inaudible 00:03:34 tube washer with the teeth facing away from the head of the bolt and thread on one bolt. Once one bolt is started, it'll hold itself up so you can get the rest of your hardware installed. And then tighten down your hardware with a 19 millimeter socket. And then tork all of your hardware into the specifications in your instructions. And then do that for the remaining bolts on the other side. Now, if you did lower your exhaust down for that extra clearance, don't forget to put it back up. You'll wanna do that now.And that completes our installation of the draw tight class 2-1 and quarter inch trailer hitch receiver on our 2018 Nissan Rogue.

2017 Nissan Rogue

I just installed this on a new 2017 Nissan Rogue. Unlike what is shown in the video, it was not necessary to drop the muffler down to install the hitch. I did have to remove the two plastic covers near the rear wheels to access the screws. That is a piece of cake. The only hard part, as others have said, is that in order to get the hitch to fit flush, there is a little piece of metal on the underneath of the car, right under the center, that I had to bend up and out of the way to get the hitch to fit flush. I did this with a long adjustable wrench; its not too hard to bend this piece. Other than that, I had to cut a large notch in the plastic piece that I removed from the drivers side before I could put it back because part of this interferes with the hitch once it is in place. Other than that, installation is pretty straightforward with the 5 screws and washers supplied. I called the dealer to ask them how much they would charge to install the hitch if I brought it in and they quoted me $350. What a joke. You can easily install this yourself. You don' even need to jack the car up; there is plenty of room to work under the car on your back. 368192

2012 Nissan Rogue

Let me start by saying if I ever needed another hitch, I would order it from Etrailer.com. The process is easy, there's plenty of online support videos to aid in installation on their own site Including a wiring video. Here's a couple of problems I had installing a DrawTite 1 1/4 hitch to my 2012 Nissan Rogue... The hitch holes (5) only lined up exactly with 4 of the mounting holes. The most inboard hole on the drivers side was off by about 1/4 inch with all the other bolts installed. That required the hitch to be forcefully pulled to the rear in order to have a second set of hands install the bolt, which was not easy. The other issue regards installing the 3 new bolts into the driver side of the frame which were formerly unused threaded weld holes. Even after cleaning and lubricating the holes multiple times, flushing the rust out with WD-40, and even cleaning the holes with a battery terminal brush, those bolts were a bear to drive in without an impact gun. I had to carefully and partially screw in each bolt into the weld nuts and gradually tighten them up using an extension bar and quite a bit of force, backing them out multiple times. It almost felt like I was driving in the wrong thread size, but there was no damage to the threads at all on inspection. The hitch is in, but the amount of effort was totally unexpected and nothing like other hitches I have installed (even those with dirty weld holes.) One other minor issue, the shipping carton had a hole in it where the receiver rested against the box. There was no support for it to prevent wear against the carton. 257243

Mounting holes on Hitch did not match the holes on the frame of my 2017 Rogue. I loosened, wiggled, pulled, tugged, stretched and leaned on the hitch and this was as close as I could get. See attached photo. I will have to have my mechanic bend the hitch mounting plate so that we can secure the other two mounting bolts on the driver's side. That will likely cost more than the price I paid for the hitch. Hitch was well painted, heavy and seemed to otherwise be a quality product. 403021

Pretty easy to install. The most difficult part was getting the bolts off from the tow hook that was originally on the car. It's best to do that with an impact wrench. Putting it on was easy. The 5 bolts lined right up and bolted on in 15 mins with a ratchet. 669956

Bought a hitch for my Nissan Rogue to pull a small trailer. The installation instructions were precise and easy to follow. I didn’t have a helper which would have made the job easier. I used a floor jack instead and that worked fine after I figured out how to maneuver the hitch around the muffler hanger. Great price, clear instructions and excellent customer service. Nice product. • Will Hitch Installation on 2017 Nissan Rogue Affect Operation of Rear Hatch Lift Sensors
Automated rear hatch opening systems on vehicles like your 2017 Nissan Rogue usually have multiple sensors at various points on the rear bumper cover. Hitch installation will often block the centrally-located sensor but usually does not affect those towards the outside edges of the bumper. So if you were to install one of the available 2-inch Class III hitches like Draw-Tite # 75902 or Curt # C13204, or either of the 1-1/4-inch Class II models, # 36542 or # C12122, you will just need...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2018 Nissan Rogue Compatible with Tailgate Lift Assist
For your 2018 Nissan Rogue SL, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36542. This is a class II hitch receiver rated for up to 300 lbs tongue weight and well over the towing capacity of your vehicle at 3500 lbs. The ECU is not something we carry as most liftgates work just fine when you add an aftermarket hitch. The sensor that is often covered up at the hitch location just won't sense the movement, but either side of the hitch tube will work fine. If you have issues, then...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2016 Nissan Rogue to Pull a 600 lb Boat on Trailer
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36542 that you reference is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Nissan Rogue SV and has a Gross Towing Weight (GTW) of 3,500 lbs and a max Tongue Weight (TW) of 300 lbs. This should be sufficient to pull your boat and trailer but you will want to check your weight to make sure. If you have not bought the trailer hitch yet then I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 75902 which has a slightly higher rated TW of 350 lbs and uses a 2 inch receiver meaning...

  • Will Motion Sensor Still Function on 2018 Nissan Rogue with Trailer Hitch Installed
For your 2018 Nissan Rogue I recommend the Draw-Tite Class II Frame Receiver Hitch # 36542. This Class II hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. The motion sensor on the rear gate will still work with the hitch installed. The only difference will be that you will likely have to move your foot to either side of the hitch receiver for the sensor to pick up your movement. The hitch will not cause the gate to open up by itself....

Although we haven't installed the Draw-Tite # 36542 Class II hitch on a 2016 Rogue, we have installed one on a 2015 model, where we found the hitch pin hole to rear of bumper distance was 5-1/2 inches. Since the 2015 and 2016 are of the same generation, and the rear of the vehicle hasn't been modified from the 2015 model year, it would be very safe to say that measurement didn't change for the 2016 model year.

The Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack # TH912XTR will work fine in this hitch, but for the best safety margin I suggest that instead you install a 2-inch Class III hitch # 75902. When it comes to clearance, you mention your Thule rack is about 7-1/4 inches from the receiver hole to the release lever, and correctly note that Draw-Tite hitch...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2017 Nissan Rogue
Yes, there are Class III, 2 inch trailer hitches available for your 2017 Nissan Rogue. You can use Draw-Tite hitch # 75902. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount...

  • Class II 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch for a 2014 Nissan Rogue and Saris Freedom Bike Rack
Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36542 does indeed fit your 2014 Nissan Rogue. The receiver tube on this hitch actually extends out pretty far so clearance is less of an issue for accessories than it could be. The Saris Freedom bike rack # SA4412B measures 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest wheel tray. That is a good amount of extension from the hitch so interference would not be a concern! I have linked a video review of this rack for you. If you want something...

  • Trunk Mount Bike Rack Fit for 2012 Nissan Rogue With Spoiler On Rear Hatch
I do have a solution that would allow you to carry bikes with your 2012 Nissan Rogue, but the fact that the vehicle is equipped with the spoiler means that unfortunately you cannot use a trunk mounted bike rack. The mounting straps for the rack would need to pass over the spoiler, and the bike rack manufacturers have found that the spoiler is not strong enough to bear the weight of the bikes and the rack. Using a trunk mount rack would damage the spoiler. Your best bet would be to install...

  • Will the Yakima FullBack Bike Rack Fit a 2015 Nissan Rogue SL AWD
The Yakima FullBack bike rack # Y02634 will not fit the 2015 Nissan Rogue but it does fit if it happens to be a Rogue Select. So if your Rouge is badged with "Select" or is otherwise stated as a Select model in its literature then the FullBack will work. If it is not a Rogue Select then I recommend installing a trailer hitch and using a hitch mount bike rack which is the safest way to carry bikes on a vehicle and eliminates contact with the vehicle. If you are looking to carry just 2...

  • Bike Rack Fit Confirmation for 2016 Nissan Rogue S
The Draw Tite Hitch part # 36542 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Nissan Rogue S. As long as your bike rack is designed to fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch this would work well for you. Since it is a 4 bike rack you may need a Class III hitch part # 75902 instead. This hitch instead has a 2 inch opening.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2015 Nissan Rogue
We do not have a complete kit for all of the items you are looking for but I can make recommendations for each of the items you asked about. We have trailer hitches that have a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening that will work with your 2015 Rogue. I recommend the Draw-Tite # 36542. This is a Class ll hitch. The ball mount I recommend for the # 36542 is part # 36053. This ball mount features a 5/8 inch rise and 1-1/4 inch drop. For a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19256 and for...

  • Recommended Installation Of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver On 2011 Nissan Rogue
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # 36542 can be installed without a lift using some basic car ramps or jack stands. It will be a little more confining but it can and has been done. If you don't want to do the work yourself, you can have any local mechanic you trust do the install for you. If you will be using this hitch for multiple accessories, I recommend getting the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75902...

  • Trailer Hitch Availability for 2016 Nissan Rogue
We have Class III and Class II hitches available for your 2016 Nissan Rogue. For a Class III which has a 2 inch opening I would recommend the part # 75902 which is confirmed as a fit. For a Class II we have the part # 36542. Whenever available I always recommend a Class III over a Class II as more accessories are made for that size hitch as well as it having better capacities.
