Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2018 Toyota Prius

I have installed the hitch on our 2018 Prius. The video was a big help. It took me about 5 hours to install partially because I was on my back. A lift would have sped things up dramatically. A lot of time was spent trying to figure how to remove the wiring harness clips from the lower bumper fascia panel. I am not a neophyte. I have lots of tools. I have at least 10 pairs of needle nose pliers both straight and angled in various sizes. After more than an hour trying various approaches, I finally realized I could unclip them with my fingers. If l could see them, it would be easy but they are in a spot where you cant "see". It would be a big help if you spent some more time in your video on how to deal with the wiring harness. I was installing on a Prius 3 which has the proximity sensors mounted in the bumper. 540477

I have included pics of the troublesome wiring harness clip and the final installation.

The installation went well. Took me about 2.5 to 3.0 hours. While the instructions were on the money, it was difficult working under the car, even while raised on jack stands, as the falling sand was more than annoying. If you live on a dirt road, as I do, get goggles. Wife loves the bike rack I have attached to your hitch. The hitch price was fair and it is very well made. 661687

2019 Toyota Prius

We purchased this hitch for a 2019 Prius, specifically to mount a bike rack. Since the top of the hatch is window, you can't hang a trunk rack. We chose to have this professionally installed. Previous experience reinstalling the plastic clips underneath was challenging so we left it to an expert. We are not auto DIYers. The hitch is perfect, barely visible, especially next to the black bumper. Our old Yakima Hold Up bike rack fit the hitch and car perfectly. The system feels solid. I can't advise about time for installation other than the car was ready for pick up 1.75 hours after dropping it off. Thanks etrailer for making purchasing the right hitch easy. We especially appreciated the 'verified to fit' notes. 717831

2020 Toyota Prius Prime

It took a couple weeks for etrailer to deliver the hitch this time around. Understandable bc of the coronavirus situation. Drawtite hitch is really high quality and solid. I had the drawtite in the previous gen Prius. That one was way easier to install. This one was a lot harder with more clips and bolts to take off and also heavier. But it’s totally worth the effort. I spent about 70 minutes to install the hitch with help from my son to hold the hitch and bumper in place. We also used a jack stand to lift the hitch in the correct spot so the bumper could be placed. Also I didn’t install the rear panel bc I didn’t want to cut it out. I plan to Lee the car only for a year anyhow. 873825

great. Took more time to install than suggested but mostly because the video suggested that the trim clips could be re-used. They cannot, so I ended up going to Pep Boys (they didn't have any), then Toyota (they did but they were expensive) to get them. Good thing I did this on a Saturday because if on Sunday Toyota would have been closed. 864407

Item was shipped and received faster than expected. The online instructions and videos were very helpful. There was a slight variation from my 2019 Prius to the 2018 video, but I managed the installation within 1.5 hours 854473

All in all, the hitch has been great. It has allowed us to attach a much better bike rack than would be possible without a hitch, and it's not obtrusive when we remove the rack. Note that it is possible to install the hitch without a lift or ramps, but I struggled immensely with clearance while doing so. The most annoying part of the installation process was removing the plastic fasteners holding the trim panels on. I'd check out Amazon or a local auto parts store for replacements in case you break any irreparably (many of mine were damaged during removal by flathead screwdriver, and a few were beyond use). They're cheap enough that I wish I would've purchased them and had them on hand instead of having to run out to the store after starting the (re)assembly process. Despite the couple things above, the installation process wasn't too challenging. The installation instructions were clear and the video was very helpful. I've recommended etrailer and this specific hitch to friends, and I'd definitely buy it again! 831402

The hitch arrived quickly and in good shape. It is an excellent product and I would have given it 5 stars but the installation instructions were pretty terrible. The steps were not clear and failed to mention that I would need to cut part of the plastic bumper cover to get it on over the hitch. It fit perfectly though, so I'm very happy with it. Super sturdy! 830897

Second hitch I've ordered over the years from etrailer. The process of ordering from start to finish is very smooth. Watching the install videos help out a lot. Cuts down on the installation time. Hitch is for my wife's Prius. Manly using a two bike rack. 829820

Etrailer.com’s shipper needs Training as box arrived in POOR condition, see photos). Wasn’t and didn’t ask for discount, but alerted etrailer, to which they promptly replied, satisfactorily. Product was undamaged, and not affected. The box just looked like it’d been passed by quite disgruntled workers. Product Installed as website video professed. Spot-on accurate instructions and the included paperwork made the task - EASY! USE the tools they recommend, although not everyone has access to a torque wren! It’s only 20 ft-lbs too, so wrenching could substitute. A buddy assisted me, we integrated car jacks, &. Extra hands helpful too= quite helpful. Purchase the tool for unfastening the white cable clips-Totally made the job easier. Whole install took a a little longer than video since we went along slowly to not miss any steps-not a dig on etrailer video; it’s very accurate. Bike rack is delayed, likely cv-19 cause, so no bikes mounted yet, guy I bet they mimic posted pics. 824489

Toyota Prius

Nicely engineered. I had it installed on my new Prius, primarily to support a bike rack. I had installation done at the dealership to make sure it was done in the best way, knowing that Toyota does not encourage trailer hitches for the new Prius (a bike rack or trailer drives the Prius rear sensors crazy -- but there are work arounds). I have also used the hitch to pull a trailer mounted with a powered log splitter. Backing up with the trailer or bike rack is a little tricky without disengaging the rear sensors. They cause the brakes to automatically engage. Good product. I would recommend it. 808517

This has been a great hitch for my Prius Prime. It is discretely tucked up close to the bumper and only the receiver is seen. I use the hitch mainly for a bike rack and some light utility trailer hauling. Installation is challenging, but possible for DIY with the aid of the well filmed online video. One might consider buying it and having a mechanic install if you are not skilled with tools. I’m happy with my hitch. 808337

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver Fit on 2020 Toyota Prius
The trailer hitch receivers that fit a 2020 Toyota Prius are the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24966 and Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11473. Of the two, I highly recommend the Curt # C11473 because it gives you the best bumper clearance and ground clearance, which is important for accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers to keep them safely away from your Prius while avoiding scraping the ground. Keep in mind these are Class I hitches so if you plan on using a bike rack,...

It would also be my choice because it will offer a slightly easier installation. If you need trailer wiring use the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118505 I have linked an installation video for you of the Curt hitch and the Tekonsha wiring.

The trailer hitch I highly recommend for your 2019 Toyota Prius is the Draw-Tite # 24966 because it has a concealed crosstube and is a bolt-on installation that will not require drilling into your vehicle's frame to install. This Class I, 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch is almost entirely hidden behind your bumper, as you can see by the accompanying photo, allowing your Prius to maintain a clean look. So you'd want to install a hitch like the # 24966 so that you can use a hitch mounted bike rack. Hitch racks are the best option overall. The Draw-Tite Class I Receiver Hitch, part # 24966 is indeed a fit for your 2016 Toyota Prius. We don't carry the 119180, but the # 119179KIT that we do carry would work great for you.
