Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Honda Civic - Draw-Tite

Today on this 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 24763. Here are a few measurements that will help when selecting accessories for your new hitch such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be 4 inches and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground will be 11 inches. Now we'll go ahead with our install. To begin our install, we'll need to remove the plastic shroud on the driver's side. There are four pushpins and three 10-mm bolts holding it up.

We'll use a screw driver to remove the pushpins. With that removed we next need to remove the exhaust hanger here which we'll use a special tool to remove it. With that out of the way, we can now remove and trim the heat shield. It has four screws holding it up, two on the outboard side and two on the inboard side. With the heat shield removed, we will trim it here as this point will be where our hitch will eventually mount up to while the rest will be sandwiched between the hitch and the frame.

With the heat shield prepped and out of the way, we can now point out our mounting points for the hitch. We'll be using these holes here on both the driver's and passenger's side as well as the tow loop here in the middle of the trunk area. Due to this being a Hybrid we'll need to drill the hole to the proper size. Before we can put the hitch into position, we need to trim the plastic shroud and put it back into place as the hitch will be on the outside of it. You also have the option of leaving it off.

To make the proper cuts we'll align the hitch over the shroud and using a colored marker will outline where we need to cut. Now with our marks made we can cut out what we need. To do this you can use either a utility knife or a Dremel tool. Now we'll put our shroud back into place loosely. With all our prep work done we can lift the hitch into position.

You may want to use an extra set of hands to help you do this as you want to make sure you lift the exhaust into position as you lift the hitch. We'll attach it to the tow loop first securing it with a U bolt. Next, we'll go to the passenger's side and place our handle nut into position before placing our heat shield up. We can now put our heat shield back up and attach it with the three fasteners. The handle nut assembly will also be placed on the driver's side. After that we can attach our hitch to the handle nuts using the bolts and conical tooth washers. With everything in place we can tighten our hitch down and torque to specification as stated in the instructions. Our last step will be to reinstall the rubber hanger to the exhaust and put the rest of the fasteners into the plastic shroud. And there you have it for part number 24763 from Draw-Tite on our 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid.

2010 Honda Civic

Very nice unit, feels solid, the welds are good. Fits my application (2010 Civic Coupe, non-Si) perfectly and tows well. A few tips on installation... first, I concur with the other reviews here - do not install the hitch to the frame rails first, install it loosely to the tow hook in the middle first. This makes it much easier to hold up and to work around, especially if you are installing it by yourself. As far as Honda parts that need to be removed to install this - you don't have to remove the heat shield, just take off 3 of the 4 bolts to let it hang down. The fourth bolt - that you don't remove - is the one that is hard to access anyway, so just leave it in place. When you reinstall the heat shield, you can just leave the top / rear bolt out of the shield and this will preclude your having to cut or bend the shield. That missing bolt won't be an issue. Or, as I did, you can install a longer bolt of the same thread pitch / diameter, and torque it up, which as you tighten it will cause the heat shield to bend around the hitch mounting bolt and properly secure it to the underside of the car. The exhaust does not need to come off, just pull the 2 tangs out of the rubber hanger and let the exhaust hang - it'll be fine. A side note on that, if you screw up and install the hitch with the exhaust still hanging below it - as I did (oops) - not a big deal. There is enough "slack" in the exhaust that you can sit on the ground, plant your feet on the back of the muffler on either side of the tail pipe, and shove it towards the front of the car, and clear the hitch my a few millimeters, thus allowing the exhaust to be properly hung above the hitch. This way there is no need to remove the hitch if you forget to move the exhaust above it prior to bolting the hitch down. Also - as far as the plastic cover on the driver's side that is held on by a plastic rivet, that rivet will probably break off when you are removing it - no worries. Once the hitch is installed, the rivet is pretty much useless anyway, since the tension of the hitch against the plastic cover will be more than enough to keep it in place, and there is a 10mm nut that further secures the cover. The cover does not need to come off, just break the rivet and remove the 10mm nut. Last tip, I found it easier to use a 19mm socket (same as 3/4") on a power drill with 6" extension to get the two frame rail bolts to seat into the handle nuts than it was to thread them by hand. It's tight quarters down there and the drill and socket give you the extra reach and faster rotation to get the bolts to seat up fast. Use your hands if you want, but one side took me 20 minutes and one side took me 3; the drill shaved off 17 minutes... then properly torque the bolts using a ratchet or a wrench. Total install took me an hour, and I'm of average if not a little below average mechanical ability. 68041

I am reviewing the trailer hitch receiver AND the etrailer customer service. First off, the trailer hitch installation was straightforward, and the videos showed me exactly how to do it. I was able to install it myself, using my hydraulic jack at certain points to help me lift the hitch into position to bolt it in place. Please see the pics below. The customer service at etrailer is phenomenal! My order was upgraded to express shipping as a nice unexpected treat. I ordered the hitch receiver and also a bike rack. Both items arrived two business days later! However, there was a problem: the bike rack didn't have the included hardware kit (bolts, nuts, pins, etc.). Here's where I was impressed- etrailer reps immediately rush shipped me the missing hardware kit, and were absolutely pleasant on the phone and in emails. I am extremely impressed with this company, and will be ordering again. I highly recommend etrailer.com! Thanks! 24646

I bought the Draw Tite hitch (24763) for a 2012 Civic coupe a few weeks back and managed to get FREE 2 day shipping. That same day I ordered a Thule Apex Bike rack on a separate order (3-5 day shipping) and I was surprised to have them both two days later! The ordered parts were all correct but I was a bit confused at first because the website differentiated between 2012 Honda coupe not Si and Hybrid although it seems it works for all models ( instructions provided information to include Si and Hybrid models). It took awhile to install and was relieved to find out I did not have to drill any holes or make them larger. If you buy this product and install it yourself make sure that the U-bolt part fits all the way up otherwise your arm bolts will be misaligned with the frame. Since I thought I had ordered the incorrect product I called etrailer.com and spoke with Sam about the issue. He was able to help me out and provide more information on the product and order number. I was able to go to Draw Tite's website and get additional information to see if my model required drilling. If you happen to lose the instructions, the Draw Tite website will give you a way to print out the instructions. I also recommend watching the youtube video to make it easier otherwise you will struggle like I did. Overall the installation to about 2 hours since I had difficulty aligning the holes and trying to determine if drilling was required. From start to finish I would recommend this company for their dedication to getting your product to your door in a timely manner. If any issues arise they are great at helping resolve your issues within minutes of placing the call. I would definitely recommend this website to friends and any future customers that are researching etrailer.com for quality services. Hope this review helps you all out! 243807

This is an awesome product! I have not had any issues with the trailer hitch. The only thing that I have done is checked the bolts to ensure that they remain tight. After a year of owing it I would definitely still rate it as 4 stars and recommend it to friends.

This hitch installed easier than my last one. It took me 1.5 hours by myself, with car up on ramps. Another set of hands just to steady things would have cut 30 minutes off the install. I had to trim the heat shield after the hitch was up. Much easier than I expected. Mark with a Sharpie and cut with tin snips. The metal was so thin, I think heavy scissors would have cut it. I like the "U Bolt" attachment to the tow hook. It takes the weight off of your arms for the rest of the install. The "handle nuts" are a really great help. You can hold the handle nut while you screw the bolt up into the nut. Much easier than the "fishing wire" of my last Honda install. No drilling required on my 2012 Honda Civic EX. 221865

All bolts still tight. Hitch is doing well! The little Civic pulls it like its not even there.

2015 Honda Civic

Ordered the Draw-Tite 24763 for my 2015 Honda Civic Sedan, and was very satisfied at the speed and detail of not only the correspondence and email between etrailer.com but also the shipping speed and condition of packaging. I received this in six days from start to finish of order. I did not spring for faster shipping and was satisfied with this type of time frame considering the size and weight of packaging. I also got the Thule Hitching Post TH934XTR four bike rack and THSTL2 hitch lock anti-rattle device. I had planned ahead by watching all of the great videos on etrailer and printed out some instructions from the site. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised with their attention to detail that this was unnecessary as they included a copy of the same instructions I printed in the box. The install went exactly like the instructions/videos said it would and if I hadn't been interested in getting the beauty plastic underbody piece back on I could have been done in fifteen minutes with a lift and another set of hands. All in all a very easy kit to install, and thanks to etrailer for the speed, quality, and including all the necessary hardware and instructions. 5/5 would definitely do business with again and recommend. 269802

Honda Civic

A Piece of Cake! The product arrived very well packaged from etrailer. I was especially impressed with the accuracy of the delivery information and the overall value of the product. Installation was easy, if you prepare ahead of the game...and I have a few tips not in the instructions. It did take just about the advertised 1/2 hour to install. First, raise and support the rear of the car (no small task with a Civic). Use a floor jack under the tail hook, then use a single jack stand to support the vehicle, placed in the center where the rear suspension lower control arms attach. For safety, position 2 non load supporting jack stands under the rocker panels in the rear. Tip 1 - The instructions will tell you to position the hitch and attach it to the frame using the handle nuts and 1/2" bolts...not easy. Instead, position the hitch and attach the U-bolt provided around the tail hook. Run the nuts on part way and now the hitch is suspended and much easier to work with. Tip 2 - Be careful when removing the OEM plastic fastener from the passenger side panel. They are brittle and break easily. If you want it perfect, grind a radius in the plastic panel to fit over the hitch bolt head and then reinstall the plastic fastener. Tip 3 - The exhaust heat shield fits back almost perfectly with the hitch in place; however since the hitch mounting plate fits under the heat shield, one of the fasteners is now too short (and this is why they tell you that trimming may be needed...it isn't). If you're detail oriented, simply get yourself a longer M6 fastener (get M6 X 30mm) and make a spacer out of a piece of 1/4" tubing. Fit the spacer under the heat shield and thead the bolt through it...fits perfectly. 895

2012 Honda Accord EX

Product arrived via UPS Ground on 8 Feb, perfect condition, necessary parts all there. The installation took me just over 60 minutes. I would suggest you inform customers for this product on a 2012 Honda EX coupe of 2 prerequisites: one that a conventional shop-type vehicle lift is available and two that it be a 2 person job. I could have cut the install time in half with an assistant. Everything fit okay, very tightly, no slack, but then who wants slack in a trailer hitch? I don't intend to be pulling any trailers, just using my bike rack in the receiver. Working alone, it went together best for me to first fasten the U-Bolt (step 6 on your install instructions), then next the driver's side and the u-bolt loose then when all 3 fasteners are threaded tighten to torque specs one at a time. 3 sockets, a couple of extensions and a ratchet are required: 19mm for the 2 frame bolts, 15 mm for the u-bolt and 10 mm for the bolts holding the heat shield. Photos show the job at the beginning, completion, and the view from the vehicle rear with the completed install. 31844

2014 Honda Civic

Took a bit longer than anticipated but the final results look good. My 2014 Civic has about 6 plastic clips and three 10 mm screws that hold the plastic tray in place - more than is depicted in the video. Thoughts: 1) Use silicone spray to help with muffler gasket removal. Yes, car is only 5 months old but I was able to easily remove and replace the gasket using only my hands. 2) Dry fit everything before attempting final install. Using hay twine to hang the hitch from the car hanger provides support AND movement. 3) Had to grind about 1/8 inch from the handle nut on the heat shield side. Appears to be a welded nut in the tube where the heat shield screw tightens and this was restricting a clear shot at the nut. 4) Hang a loop of string from the handle nuts so one can more easily initially thread the bolt into the nut. Pulling down on the string keeps the handle nut from slipping. This is especially important on the driver side as one has to reach up through the plastic tray. 181006

I discovered etrailer while researching a hitch for my 2008 honda civic. I was very impressed that they had videos showing installation for both the hitch and wiring for my exact car. 4 days later the hitch and wiring were all installed with no troubles. Everything installed exactly as the videos showed. I couldn't be happier. Etrailer has earned my business. I rate them A+ for support, value and quick shipping. 151468

Thank you for following up with me. I couldnt be happier one year later with our purchase. The hitch and wiring for the trailer work perfectly and I would not hesitate to purchase from you again and have already recommended your site to others. I was very impressed especially with the videos that allowed me to see how installation should go before I even ordered. This is a great feature. Thanks again for great service!!!

2013 Honda Civic

Ordered a Draw-Tite hitch for my 2013 Honda Civic sedan to use for hauling a lightweight kayak trailer. Ordering was very simple, and eTrailer even upgraded my shipping (faster delivery) after I had placed the order, for no extra cost! Installation was a minor bit of a challenge, mainly because I was doing it all myself (a second pair of hands is recommended), and I had no benefit of a auto hoist - just an old pair of auto ramps. I took my time, making sure of what I needed to do, and test-fitting things before starting to commit to put everything back together. At first it seemed like the mounting holes were not going to align, but after tussling with it everything just fell into place - nice and snug. I did have to cut a rectangular hole in the plastic splash shield on the driver side (this was noted in the online videos), and a small (1"x1.5") notch out of the heat shield. Biggest PITA was getting that darn rubber support ring off the muffler. (A bit of dish soap took care of that nuisance!). All in all, I'm very happy with the result and with the purchase. If I ever need another aftermarket hitch I will definitely come back again. Great product, great service - highly recommended. 120773

Build quality of this hitch reciever was ok. There was a bit of weld spatter on some of the joints and even a small gap on one of the arm welds. More disappointing was the condition of the hitch when it was delivered. There were multiple finish gouges and scratches and one of the arms was bent 1/2" out of true. This caused a bit of frustration during installation but etrailer.com's customer support provided advice on how to straighten the bent arm enough so it would line up with my vehicle's frame. I would rate the hitch receiver a "5" but eTrailer sales/support an "8". 138941

Thanks for the follow-up. The hitch is still working like a champ. When the weather cooperates, I use it several times a week to take my mountain bike to local trails.

2009 Honda Civic

2009 Honda Civic Si, Hitch + Wiring: Overall - Excellent I thought the wiring was going to have quick connects that would pop into the middle of the mfg's connections but they ended up being the little plastic dual splicers. Maybe I read the description wrong, but this threw me a little, but they're easy to use, just test all your colors before you splice. The hitch itself was pretty easy. Glad they came with paper instructions. We did trim the heat shield, just punched a hole out of it for the bolt to stick through. Use lube on the muffler brackets, makes it easier. Plan to spend 30-60 on wiring (if you like to be neat and meticulous). Also, we tried to test the wires one at a time from the outlet plug, but they wouldn't signal until we had all 4 lights spliced in. Plan on spending 60-120 minutes on harness. Be gentle with the plastic clips, you don't want to break them. It fits in pretty easy, a little maneuvering with the U-bolt, don't snug up any of the bolts until you're sure everything it seated in place. Great hitch, sturdy, can't wait to take the boat out. Thanks! 47783

have you discovered how much weight you think the vehicle can safely handle on the 2009 Si?

Honda will indicate in the owner's manual how much the vehicle can safely tow. Reference that information with the ratings on the hitch and abide by whichever is lowest.

The hitch receiver mounted perfectly. I discovered that you need to drill through the heat shield, or just clip it around the receiver. A self taping screw could be added through the shield if needed. 179076

Product was packaged great arrived without any damage, easy install, 40 minutes on the hitch with just myself, another set of hands would have been helpful, but a zip tie did the job in the center. Driver side bolted up first, then trimmed the heatshield very little for the hitch to fit on the right. Attached center u-bolt, then attached the passenger side. Bolted in the heat shield and tightened all the bolts down. Carefully removed the plastic plugs in the trunk that holds the formed carpet at the tail lights, popped out the center plasit mold (take that out from the top where the trunk latches. The Bottom piece actully slides into a form as well as each end.) Un plugged the T-connectors screwed in the ground on the left, then plugged the T-connector on the right. Peeled the tape of the control box, mounted it to the rear fender wall zip tied it all in place, re-installed the formed carpet and plastic plate. Double checked the lights on the trailer, and I was done. This product exceeded my expectations, extremely easy, easy to follow instructions, and doing it myself, saved me money. Thanks e-trailer, great experience, and it looks great. 43494

2013 Honda Civic

I just finished installing this hitch onto my Honda Civic Sedan 2013 model. This product is solid and of superior quality. The installation did require some elbow grease which I had no problem doing. I was able to follow the installation video to the T. I would definitively recommend getting a helping hand for this job. The most difficult part was drilling the hole, like in the video. I bought a $100 drill but I felt like a needed more drill, i.e. an impact drill. I was drilling for about 10 to 15 min using three different sized drill bits. The second most difficult part was unlatching the rubber bit off the exhaust. In the video a specialty tool is used. I removed the rubber bit with a pair of pliers and WD-40. I wish my car was off the ground. It would have made this whole process easier. This is a product that I would recommend to a friend. Any competent person should be able to follow the video and install the hitch with the right tools and a helping hand. 161462

I was a bit pressured to get it installed to be ready for an upcoming trip so I was a little anxious when I started this project. Between the instruction sheet and installation video, it was not difficult to do at all. I jacked the car up on both sides to make it a bit easier and luckily had someone to help hold up the hitch which made that part much easier. The hitch itself is very nicely made and obviously of high quality. Everything needed to install the hitch was included. It took me just over an hour to install mainly because I had to loosen it up and reinstall it again when (somehow) the muffler ended up below the tow bar exactly the opposite of what the instructions told me to do. Totally my fault. Everything fit just fine and I didn't have to alter the heat shield or anything else. It's a very good product. I won't be towing anything with this (as far as I know). I installed it primarily to hold a Thule bike rack and so far am very pleased. 127880

2007 Honda Civic

This hitch was extreemly easy to install. I have a 2007 Civic coupe, and I just had to remove 4 small bolts, and a rubber piece holding the muffler in place. I conected the center piece first, and that made it easy to hold the hitch in place while I bolted it in. I was surprised that it is held by only one large bolt on each side and a small U bolt in the middle. But.. it is sturdy!!! I would rate this a 5 except my trailer hitch doesn't fit in it... from my other car (Camery 2007) there is a small metal piece in this hitch that only allows you to use items rated for low weight. That's OK, I have a grinder and will grind a small notch in each of my accessories..... I', assuming that will work :) Installed at night in about an hour. Make sure the muffler hangers are above the hitch when you bolt the hitch on or you have to start over.... like I did. :) Etrailer always seems to have the best prices and the parts come in about 5 days.... not bad!!!! 57549

First off it is just easier to remove the muffler completely then to try to hold it up and work around it. Once the hitch is in place the muffler doesnt move enough to clear the hitch and reinstall into it's rubber holder. But once the muffler is off the install is simple. Remove 3 bolts from the heat shield and let it hang. Start the install by suspending the hitch from the tow hook using the U clamp provided then you don't need to hold the hitch in the air while trying to get the other bolts in place. The nuts on the lock tabs/straps slide easily into the frame and line right up witht the holes in the frame. It is easy to get the bolts started then tighten them up and torque them. Reinstall the heat shield bolts, one of them wont go back in unless you do a slight bend in the heat shield, but this is easily accompolished. Then remount the muffler and you are done. That simple. Way less then 1 hour. A very nice product and easy to install. 48958

No reason to pay more This is the lowest-cost receiver hitch of those offered by etrailer.com. It does not come with a ball mount, but since I only intend to use this hitch for a bike rack, and not to tow, this was actually a benefit. Installation is very easy and I completed it in exactly an hour. Make sure, when installing, to put the muffler fittings above the hitch. It will be very crowded with the hitch raised into place, ready for final tightening, but there is room for normal sockets and extensions, and I used a torque wrench for the final tightening of all fittings. I found that one of the bolts for the exhaust heat shield will not go back with the hitch installed. I was concerned about noise from the shield hitting the hitch, but there is none, and I could get a longer bolt to eliminate any chance of noise. Overall, Draw-Tite makes a solid product, and I am satisfied with the fit and looks of this hitch on my Civic. 2838

The hitch installed. The job took a little over an hour and I saved $150 by doing it myself. Overall, it was pretty easy, but I'd recommend finding a buddy to help you hold the hitch in place when you bolt it to the frame. You'll also need a 3/4 socket for the frame bolts and I think either deep 7/16 socket or just regular wrench for the middle bracket bolts. For 2009 Civic LX (not hybrid), NO cutting, drilling or other modifications required whatsoever. I just installed the heat shield and plastic shroud on top of the hitch. 106260

This installation turned out to be harder than I anticipated. I had to totally remove the plastic pan to make the hitch bolt up to the frame, which meant I had to refasten the bumper screws to the frame so that there was stability back there. I think the hitch will work just fine, but it was not an easy job for me and my elderly companions. 146026

2008 Honda Civic

I bought this hitch to install on my 2008 Honda Civic LX. The instructions were good and the only problem we had in installing the hitch is that we had to use a farm jack (see attached photo) to spread the hitch out about 1 inch. We did this because the holes of the hitch were not lining up w/ the holes in the frame of the car. After spreading the hitch, it installed w/out difficulty. We had to cut a small piece of the plastic cover (I think it was the fuel tank cover) that the hitch goes underneath in order for the hitch to fit, but that was a simple cut. Took us about an hour to install. We have used the hitch/cargo carrier for 2 long distance trips and haven't had any trouble. 169016

This hitch receiver looks good, and looks well designed, sturdy and unobtrusive. All the parts listed (and needed for the installation) were present and worked. I got the trailer hitch receiver professionally installed. Although that was the first time they had installed this kit on a 2009 Civic, and had not watched the video, the installation was straightforward and took less than 1/2 hour. 9569

Difficult install drops rating This hitch comes bundled with the necessary parts for mounting a hitch ball, which is nice, and all the parts are high quality. Mounting under my 2007 Civic coupe was a little tougher than the instructions led me to believe. I had to lower the exhaust, but then when the hitch was mounted to the frame, the exhaust would not clear the hitch to get back into its mounting grommits, so I had to remove the hitch and work with the exhaust resting on the hitch while I bolted in place. This resulted in some difficulty. Also, the heat shield had trouble clearing the hitch when trying to put it back in place, so the rear drivers side bolt had to be left off. I installed on the street, and am sure it would be easier if one had a lift/ramp to work under. 247

2013 Honda Civic EX

I received the hitch quickly. It arrived as described on the site. I've installed two of these hitches from from etrailer.com The install on a 2008 Civic EX was straight forward. Installation on a 2013 Civic EX was complicated by the large plastic cover. I had to do a lot of trimming before I could get the plastic to realign with all the mounting holes. The 2012 installation video on the etrailer site doesn't dedicate enough time to this portion of the install. Hint: take a look at the cutout toward the end of the video when they are mounting the hitch to the frame. Through the magic of video editting, the cutout is much larger than the original size shown earlier in the video. Keep your utility knife nearby. You're going to need it. 98789

Solid product, relatively easy install. No drilling required on my 2012 Civic Ex. It took me the advertised 1.5hrs to do the install. However, I could have had it done in about an hour if I had not originally installed it without the muffler tangs above the hitch... My only gripe is that it arrived with some chips in the paint, see photos. 457203

4 stars because it fits and seems strong. 5 stars if all goes well after I use it. I purchased the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" for ( code 24763). I installed it on a 2011 Honda Civic LX. I was happy to find that it fit correctly. Installation is as indicated in the videos. I used to 5 gallons buckets to help hold it up to install it and removed passenger side tire. It is a little tight on passenger side, but as expected. I have not actually pull the light trailer I plan to, but I think it will be ok, as I only plan to do it occasionally and at short distance. My manual for Honda Civic indicates no more than 1000 lbs. 489515

Good product The order shipped quickly. I took my time on installing the hitch so it took a little longer than 45min. I had to modify the exhaust heat shield in order to bolt the right side connection to the bare frame. Other than that it was pretty simple. It helps if you have someone that can assist you since the weight of the hitch will become tiresome quickly. The lowering and reattaching of the exhuast on my 2010 civic was very easy, in case you are nervous about it. A very simple rubber hanger secures the connection. The hitch looks great and is mostly concealed. I am happy with the purchase. I haven't towed anything yet, but I will post a review when I do. 4901

No worries! If you follow their youtube video, you won't go wrong. They suggest having a friend to help. That's a definite YES!!! I didn't have use of a lift or a couple of jack stands, so I just backed the car till it sat on the edge of the garage floor. Only negative is putting the bottom plastic panel back on. Ended up having to cut the center out so it would fit past the U bolt and that section of the hitch. Also, two pop connectors on rear were not able to be put back in because of how close the hitch is. So a couple of zip ties were used. Over all opinion is that Etrailer people, their knowledge, helpfulness and product are top notch. Cheers! 115443

ultra fast shipping! received in 2 days, unheard of for this price. included paper instructions are weak, says nothing about the huge plastic bellypan under the car that needs to be altered considerably, but awesome youtube video by etrailer makes up for it. i would put the link on your description for the product as a heads up. otherwise excellent service and well engineered installation taking into consideration that cars vary wildly in design. had mine on-minus the plastic piece, which gave me the only headache, in an hour. not sure if the bellypan is an aerodynamic gas saver or noise reducer, never had one under my previous cars before. thanks! 318272

This is the 2nd hitch I have installed myself. I have arthritis so any project that is heavy or where I need to crawl under things is a big challenge. It is recommended that two people do the install...I did it by myself in both cases using whatever was available to hold up one end of the hitch while I bolted in the other. It also was a challenge to work around the muffler. So with all the challenges, it took me twice as long as it probably would otherwise, but once installed it worked flawlessly and never gives me a problem. I would recommend these hitches to anyone. Even someone like me with physical limitations can install them! 254343

The hitch itself seems to be a decent hitch, but if I had it to do over again, I would not have ordered any accessories. They were materially overpriced and did not fit. Upon trying to return them, E-trailer wanted to charge me shipping and restocking charges in spite of the fact that they assured me by telephone before I placed the order that they would fit. I was quite disappointed and will not order anything from E-trailer again. The hitch will install fairly easily if you do not replace the shroud under the back of the vehicle. However, if you want the shroud reinstalled, it is a far more difficult and time consuming task. 172895

the hitch is made to perfect exact specs. it was a very tight fit and would be best if you had a extra set thanks. install is really straight forward. the 2012 has a full shroud that needs to be removed to do the install. in order to reinstall you need to cut a notch for the drivers side hitch bracket to slide into. I cut a notch out of the part that goes around the tow loop.with this model it takes more effort but its a super clean installation. I ran the wires inside the trunk and up through the trunk latch hole knockout leaving just enough tail to get to the trailer. when not in use it tucks nicely under the trunk tray lid. 38101

I installed this on a 2011 Honda Civic EX 4 door. The hitch required two people, a lift, two hours, and various size sockets to install. There were no major headaches. The hitch aligned perfectly with holes in the frame and the plastic cover and muffler heat shield were easy to remove, cut, and re-install. If drilling holes into the frame were required (it was suggested in the instructions that it could be) this would take a little longer to complete. So far the hitch is extremely secure and shows no signs of sway or movement. I am very happy with the price and quality of this product and recommend it to anyone. 123186

I'm giving this hitch a five-star rating even though I've not yet installed it. Here's why: I'm a welder and enjoy making things from steel. I fabricated a hitch for my previous Civic. It worked satisfactorily, but was not as strong as this new hitch, which is massively strong. I compared the cost of materials and difficulty in fabricating a hitch for my 2010 Civic to the $112 for this hitch, and easily chose the etrailer Draw-Tite hitch. To me it's a great bargain. I also admire the creative new method of bolting the hitch to the car frame--installing the nut instead of the bolt inside the frame is a clever improvement. 327481

This Class I trailer hitch fit my 2013 Honda Civic well. The etrailer.com installation video was very helpful. Installation of this product would have been much harder without it. It took me quite a bit longer to install than the suggested 50 min, but that is how I work. I also installed the Tow Ready light kit which was easy and fast to install, again with much needed help from the etrailer.com video, once I figured out how to get the plastic part of the trunk liner out. The people and ordering process are great at etrailer.com. I would recommend etrailer.com to everyone looking to purchase their products. 176555

Honda Civic SI

Pretty good product, looks good and easy to install. Installed it on a Honda SI sedan in about an hour and a half. 50% of that time was just trying to get a couple hard to reach screws back in to secure the hitch. The only complaint I have is that the hitch is a little off center. I tried reinstalling it and holding it in different positions and tightening the screws several times, but it's still slightly off center. Without any attachments it looks perfectly fine, but then what they bike carrier or a cargo rack, you can tell it's off-center a bit. It might just be my hitch, but otherwise I am happy with it. 184123

Ordered from eTrailer in the past. This order also arrived as promised. Installation was straight forward. Follow the directions and you won't have any problems. If you have a jack to hold up the hitch it makes things a bit easier. Also, install the driver's side of the hitch first, then the passenger side with the middle horseshoe bolt last, Trust me. Time states on video was very close to accurate and not the unrealistic installation times you see on other sites. I would use eTrailer again as a place to buy hitches or any of the hitch accessories. Good product, great service. John F. 168486
