Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Scion xB

Speaker 1: Today on our 2009 Sion XB, you're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite class one sports frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 24815. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. You can see the cross tube is completely hidden behind the bumper fascia. Our receiver tube is nice and tucked in. It's not sticking out past the edge of our bumper fascia, so we're not gonna have to worry about hitting our legs or our shins on it when we're loading and unloading the vehicle. This is gonna be a class one hitch, inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter, so you wanna make sure you're only carrying class one accessories. It's gonna have a rolled steel style safety chain rings, so it's gonna give you plenty of room for different sized safety chain hooks.

And your hitch pin hole is gonna be a half inch in diameter. There is a draw bar kit you can purchase. For this hitch, it is sold separately. Part number 3593. And you wanna make sure that you use it in the rise position.

We're gonna have a 200 pound max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube, and you're gonna have a 2000 pound max trailer weight, which is the trailer plus load included. I do recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure that your vehicle can withstand that amount of weight. You're gonna wanna pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. As far as the installation goes, it is a very simple installation. The only thing that really needs to be done is on the driver's side, you'll need to remove a tow hook. Two bolts that are installed there, you're gonna be using those two weld nuts, and you're gonna have two weld nuts on your factory side.

It is gonna come with all the necessary hardware, and there's no drilling required. Now let's give you a few measurements that'll help you when deciding on any hitch mounted accessories you may need, such as a cargo carrier or bike rack. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper is about 2 1/4 inches. From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube is about 12 1/4 inches. Now let's show you how to get this installed.First thing we need to do to start our installation. This might be a little easier if you raise the back of your car, if you have some ramps or something, back the car on the ramps, make sure you chock your front wheels and set your emergency brake.

Over here on your driver's side you're gonna have a tow hook. That's gonna need to be removed first. We're gonna have two bolts that are holding it up. We're gonna need a 17 millimeter socket to remove them. Now, if you're gonna use power tools, I recommend because these are weld nuts, if you use a socket wrench first to loosen them and then you take them out the rest of the way with a power tool, because if those have been on there for a while, if they're stuck on there, using a power tool may break them off and then you're gonna have to draw out the weld nut. So use the socket wrench first to loosen them. We will not be reinstalling these. Now where we just took out those two bolts, we're gonna be using those two weld nuts, and then you're gonna have two weld nuts in the same place on the passenger side. Even though we have bolts in these, I do recommend taking some spray lubricant and spraying it up inside and taking a tube brush and cleaning them out just to make sure there's nothing on that weld. On the passenger's side you're not gonna have a tow hook, so I recommend making sure that those are cleaned good. Once you have them cleaned out, take one of your bolts in your hardware kit and thread it up into the hole. You wanna be able to turn that up in there with your hand.In your kit, you're gonna get four X-bolts and four conical tooth washers. Conical tooth washer, you'll notice it has teeth on it. You wanna make sure that those teeth are facing up toward the hitch away from the bolt head. Now we'll get a bolt in on each side to hold our hitch in place while we install the rest of our hardware. Now that our hitch is held up, we can go ahead and install the remaining hardware. Now we'll take a 3/4 inch socket and tighten all of our hardware down. Next we're gonna torque our hardware to the specifications in the instructions. We're gonna do that with all remaining hardware. Now that we have our hitch installed, we're ready to load up our accessories and hit the road. And that'll do it for a look at and installation of the Draw-Tite class one sport frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 24815 on our 2009 Sion XB.

Haven't put it on yet but it seems pretty easy and looks pretty nice. The only I have to say is the the draw tite sticker is scratched up and the green right turn wire is looped through the brown tail wire and the red brake wire. 414058

I bought a tow bar, hitch and wiring harness. Everything fit like it was supposed to, but the draw bar would have been easier to install if the car was brand new (8 yrs old, pre-threaded holes in frame corroded) but I made it work and now I can tow my boat! 377822

Really simple install. Draw bar I purchased locally needed a grind to fully admit it into the hitch due to a small stop button in the receiver. 227319

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Scion iA
Trailer hitch # 24815 does not fit your 2016 Scion iA but you can use Curt trailer hitch # C11421. The other hitch fits older and different Scion models just not your iA. If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when...

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2013 Scion xB Release Series
You are correct that one of the hitches offered for the 2013 Scion xB, Draw-Tite Class I hitch # 24815, does not fit on the Release series. The other hitch offered is the Curt Class II model # C12490 and I confirmed with one of my technical contacts at Curt that it is compatible with the Release series version of the 2013 xB. Installation instructions and a video showing a 2014 xB are both linked for your reference. This hitch will be compatible with Class II accessories that fit its...

  • Does Draw Tite Hitch 24815 Fit 2012 Scion Release
I checked with Draw Tite and the part # 24815 is confirmed as a fit for your 2012 Scion tC so it would work well on your vehicle. I looked up pictures of the exhaust on your vehicle and since it is built into the rear fascia of the vehicle this hitch would fit around it. Draw Tite does not recommend any trimming to fit this hitch on your vehicle so it would not require any on yours either. Check out the install video I attached to see more info on the install process.

  • Tongue Weight of Draw-Tite 24815 for 2008 Scion xB
Tongue weight is roughly 10% of hitch capacity. The capacity of this Draw-Tite Class I is 2,000 lbs, making the tongue weight 200 lbs. We have a hitch with a higher capacity for your vehicle. The Curt Class II receiver hitch (part 12490) has 3,500-lb capacity, giving it a 350-lb tongue weight. Since the Scion sits very low to the ground, I would highly recommend a cargo carrier with a rise. You might try the 20x48 Cargo Carrier by Tow Ready, part # 63155, which has a 3 inch rise. This...

  • Does Draw Tite Hitch for 2010 Scion xB Come with Needed Hardware to Install
Yes, the trailer hitches we offer do come with all of the needed hardware to install the hitch. You would just need to provide the tools to secure the hardware. The Draw Tite hitch part # 24815 which is a fit for your 2010 Scion xB comes with all needed hardware. I attached an install video for more info as well.

  • Recommended Hitch for Carrying Up to 4 Bikes and Light Duty Towing for 2012 Scion xB
A Class I and Class II hitch is offered for your xB. I'd avoid the Class I, as it would limit you to carrying only two bikes due to its limited weight capacity. The Curt Class II hitch, part # C12490 would allow you to carry up to 4 bikes. Curt's warranty requires that a # 18050 support strap be used by all non-trailer loads like a bike rack. I'll link you to a video showing how the strap is used. For a bike rack that would allow you to carry up to 4 bikes, I'd recommend the Thule...

We do not maintain relationships with local installers for the hitches we sell but our hitch vendors, such as Draw-Tite and Curt, do provide a dealer-locator service on their websites. Many of our customers tackle the install on their own since we include hardware, instructions as well as videos to help. The hitch I recommend for your 2008 Scion xB is the light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class II model from Curt, part # C12490. This offer a higher weight capacity than the same-size Class I hitch...

  • Is Fascia Bumper Trimming Required to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Scion tC
Trimming the rear fascia is not required in the instructions for Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24815. I have linked the instructions for you to view. However on some vehicles, people did have to allow the hitch to push up the bumper or have trimmed it for the best fit. It seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle. I have included a link to a video that shows a typical installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing the recommended ball mount is # 3593 and you can use pin and clip # PC2....

You would want the Curt Hitch part # 13465. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you would want the Curt Wiring harness part # C55534. • What is the Correct Ball Mount for a Draw-Tite Trailer hitch # 24815
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 24815, is a Class I trailer hitch. Only Class I accessories will fit. The reason is that Class I trailer hitches have a built in stop that will only allow Class I accessories so you do not accidentally overload the hitch. You can see this stop in the 4th picture on the product page. Also, with any Class I or II trailer hitch, you must use the ball mount recommended by the trailer hitch manufacturer otherwise you will void the warranty. The correct ball...

There are only two hitch receivers available for your 2010 Scion xB, and the other, the Draw-Tite Class I # 24815 does not have a collar at the opening of the receiver tube like the one used in the video. • Will a Trailer Hitch for a 2005 Scion xB fit a 2008 Scion xB
The hitches that are built to fit a 2005 Scion xB will not fit a 2008 Scion xB. The 2007 xB brought a new body that included some frame changes which is why the hitches for the 2004-2006 models will not fit the newer models. For your 2008 Scion xB you can use one of three hitches: Curt part # 12490 or Draw-Tite part # 24815.
