Ordered late on a Sunday night - Shipped early Monday morning. Doesn't get any better that that! Instillation was pretty straight forward, except for the stupid old man [me] that attempted to remove a nut that was welded to the frame. 548981

Pretty straightforward to install. 1. Be conscientious of the “tabs / clips” and have them in place before installing (bumper to new tow piece via cutout). I cut mine off instead. the bolt that’s closest to the cab should be loosened from the outside because the inside bolt is tig welded in place ( I tried loosening that bolt for a while and tore it up, thankfully it was completely functional inside) one side is going to seem like the bolts are too high or low, be very patient not to strip your bolts attempting to align the system this took the most time for me. 862865

2004 Toyota Tacoma

Easy install. Moving slowly, probably about 1-1.5 hours. Solid construction: One piece welded, not bolted together. The bumper, hitch, and brackets get torqued back on pretty good so it's helpful to have a couple different length torque wrenches, sockets, and extensions as well as deep and normal length sockets under the truck with you to save your knuckles in the tighter spaces as well as when you slug up on everything (One bracket bolt on each side has a nut backing it that needs bracing with another socket as you tighten/torque it while all 4 bumper bolts, the other 2 bracket bolts, and the new lag bolt nuts that come with the hitch require no retaining from behind). Take your time and use the large cardboard box it comes in to lower the bumper onto and as you remove it and hold it to avoid scuffs/scratches as you install the hitch. Have a mallet handy to tap the OEM bumper brackets forward onto the front bolts and a screwdriver to stick through the holes if necessary to line up all the frame, hitch, and bumper bracket bolt holes w/one another. Don't tighten ANYTHING past a little better than hand tight until all hardware is in place then break out the torque wrenches. No "Oh s#!t moments" at all. Watch the install videos and get to it! 801874

1999 Toyota Tacoma

The hitch I ordered arrived in less than a week. The 13013 Curt hitch seems very well made and should be great for moving my existing trailers around with my small Tacoma. I also plan to purchase a small camper and or motorcycle trailer in the future so this hitch will see plenty of action. I did not trust the bumper as a tow device even though it has a hole for a ball. I recently tore the whole truck down and replaced the frame and I just finished painting it with POR-15 which seems rock hard and since the truck is being reassembled now its the perfect time to add the hitch. 790307

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch

  • Is There a Trailer Hitch for a 2000 Toyota Tacoma That Mounts To the Bumper
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13013 is a great option for a 2000 Toyota Tacoma and what I recommend using. The trailer hitch attaches to the frame which is the only option for this vehicle, there isn't any sort of mount for the bumper aside from using a standard hitch ball in the existing hole. In regards to the lack of undercoating, I really don't see why bolting a standard trailer hitch to the frame would be any issue at all. If a coating were applied before you'd have the...

  • Tips for Fitting Curt Hitch # 13013 onto 2001 Toyota Tacoma with Rear Bumper
What you described is kind of a common issue with the install of the Curt hitch # 13013 that you referenced. We had a customer come back with tips on how to get everything lined up properly: Re-install the bumper brackets and make sure the tabs go through the slots on the side bracket." Ok, but then they must move forward to align the holes but the slot between the tab and the now doubled metal is not wide enough. Hence, I had to grind the metal out in order for the tab to clear. • Reasons for 1 Hour 10 Minute Install Time for the CURT Hitch # 13013 on a 2002 Toyota Tacoma
There are actually 6 bolts connecting the CURT trailer hitch # 13013, to the frame on the 2002 Toyota Tacoma, and the factory bumper will need to be removed and reinstalled to complete the installation. This will require disconnection and reconnection of the license plate light wiring, and correctly repositioning the rear bumper to complete the installation. Although the installation requires 1hr 10min to complete this is not a difficult installation to undertake. One tip I can offer...

I spoke with my contact at CURT about Trailer Hitch, # 13013. He stated that the crosstubing will be partially exposed below the bumper. • Why Can't Trailer Hitch be Used if Hit From Behind?
No, you cannot use a trailer hitch after any type of rear collision; its structure will have been compromised and it would not be safe to use.
