Hi John,
The Curt Customer Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III part # 13013 will most definitely fit your 2001 2WD Toyota Tacoma. We usually only see fitment issues between 2WD and 4WD vehicles when it comes to mounting front hitches. However, since this is a rear mounted hitch and the frames are the same it won't impact the hitch's fitment. It's a standard 2" hitch receiver rated for 500lbs of tongue weight or 5,000lbs towing capacity so it can handle small campers, boats, and heavy duty loads or accessories.
What are you wanting to use the hitch for?

I put it on a 2wd 2004 Tacoma, with no problems. The instructions do leave out a step though. You can remove the bumper by removing the bumper bracket bolts from the frame, but to install the hitch, you need to also remove the bumper bracket bolts from the bumper. Reinstall the brackets to the frame after the hitch, and reinstall the bumper onto the brackets last.
