A Solution for Rough Rides

Have you ever hit a bump while towing and had that road shock jostle and shake you all the way down to your bones? It's a common feeling. Most ball mounts are made almost completely of metal, so there's nothing to help soften the shock when you hit a bump. This results in a bumpy, jerky ride that not only takes a toll on you as you drive, but it beats up your equipment too, leading to premature wear and tear on both your truck and trailer.

Fortunately, the Shocker Hitch HD Air will change all that.

Air Bag and Bumper Stop Shock Absorption Technology

Shocker Hitch Air Bag

Using a built-in air bag and rubber cushions, the Shocker Hitch HD Air acts like a small suspension system between your truck and trailer. The air bag and bumpers help absorb road shock, creating a smoother, more comfortable ride while also protecting your truck and trailer from unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes, chassis, trailer frame, and suspensions.

Shocker Hitch Bumper Cushion

The body of the Shocker Hitch HD Air is designed to pivot back and forth on the shank, kind of like a seesaw or teeter totter, as the air bag, which sits directly beneath your truck's receiver, and the cushioned bumpers take turns absorbing the road shock.

Shocker Hitch Pivot

When you hit a bump and your trailer bounces, the unit pivots so that the air bag can isolate and absorb the energy. When your trailer jerks forward or backward, the 2 cushioned bumper stops help soften the force.

Customize Amount of Shock Absorption

Shocker Hitch Bumper Cushion

Using the easily accessible air valve on the side of the unit, you can adjust the air pressure in the Shocker Hitch Air's air bag to best accommodate your trailer's load. If you're hauling heavy-duty landscaping equipment, for example, you can add air to account for the increased capacity. Once the equipment is unloaded, simply release some air so that your underloaded trailer won't experience a stiff ride.

How to Air Up Shocker Hitch><br class=

Finding the right pressure for your setup is simple. Once you've hooked up your trailer and the tongue weight is pushing down on the hitch ball, there will be a gap between the top of the adjustable channel and bumper.

Shocker Hitch Air Bag PSI><br class=

Inflate the air bag until the bumper rests flush against the top of the hitch. Once the gap is gone, you'll know the air bag has the appropriate amount of air pressure for your load.

If you happen to get stuck in a situation where you're unable to inflate the bag, there's no need to worry; you can still tow your trailer. Without the inflated air bag, you won't get the full benefit of the Shocker Hitch HD Air, but you'll still get some built-in cushion with the bumper stops.

Adjustable Drop Hitch for Towing Different Trailers

How to Adjust Shocker Hitch Height

Adjusting the height of the hitch ball to accommodate for a different trailer takes almost no time at all. Just unclip the adjustment pins and grab the easy-to-grasp handles to remove them. Then slide the ball platform up or down to the desired position. You can also flip the platform depending on whether you need the 2" or 2-5/16" ball. Once you have the correct height and ball size, reinsert the pins and secure the clips, and fold back the handles so they're out of the way. Then you're ready to go.

Yes, the hitch arrived today. Thanks for getting it shipped out so quickly.

It looks great. I just hope it works as well as it looks! :)

I'll be testing the hitch out this coming week on a 1,500+ mile trip with a large enclosed car hauler and I will gladly leave a review once I get back.

  • Troubleshooting Sway With An Enclosed Car Hauler Trailer
Unloading the bed of your truck changed your tongue weight so you would just need to shift the weight in the trailer forward a bit to get the tongue weight back and prevent the swaying you're experiencing. Electric sway control will typically just cook your brakes so it's not really the best option but would be a last resort if you can't use a weight distribution hitch. Enclosed car hauler trailers typically either have a very short tongue, making it impossible to install a WDH, or will...

  • 2" Hitch Ball For Use On Shocker Hitch HD Air Ball Mount # SHK22VR For 7-1/2" Drop
Yes, we have the Drop Ball Attachment for Shocker Bumper Hitches with 2" Ball # SHK27ZR. This will work with the Shocker Hitch HD Air Ball Mount # SHK22VR you found giving you the 7-1/2" of drop you are needing. The Combo Ball # SHK89ZR included with the Shocker Hitch HD Air Cushioned 2-Ball Mount # SHK65VR will only have 3-1/2" of drop due to the different design of the ball mount itself. I recommend getting the InfiniteRule Locking Pins # IR39FR to secure the assembly to your truck. To...

  • What 2-1/2" Hitch Helps Reduce Chucking when Towing?
For a great solution to decrease chucking on your 2-1/2" receiver while towing, I recommend the Shocker HD Air Receiver Hitch - Combination Ball Mount - 2-1/2" Shank # SHK65VR. This hitch comes with an air bag that you can inflate or deflate depending on your desired firmness. For a locking hitch pin, I recommend the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches - Flush # e98881.

  • Does Shocker HD Air Receiver Hitch Combination Ball Mount # SHK65VR Fit 2-1/2 inch Hitch
The Shocker HD Air Receiver Hitch - Combination Ball Mount # SHK65VR does fit a 2-1/2 inch hitch directly. The tech tip you mentioned is a generic one that applies to both hitch sizes for these ball mounts: A 2" Shocker Air receiver will not fit a 2-1/2" hitch even with a reducer sleeve as trucks with 2-1/2" hitches have deeper frames. A 2-1/2" Shocker Air receiver will fit a 3" hitch with a reducer sleeve.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For An Enclosed Car Hauler V-Nose Trailer
With your trailer tongue having a frame beam running down the center of the tongue the B&W Continuum isn't going to be a viable option. You'll need to look at a hitch like the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System with Shank # C17332. The spring bars are approximately 28-3/8" in length so you'll want to measure how much length you have from the coupler to body of the trailer to see if this will work. If there's enough length but you can't use the clamp on frame brackets then you can...

  • Will A ProPride Weight Distribution Hitch Work With A V-Nose Enclosed Trailer
The ProPride 3P Weight Distribution Hitch w/ Sway Control for 2" Receiver # PR57QR requires a 26" distance from the coupler down the tongue for the frame brackets. If you have the space then this is would be a great option to help minimize swaying. Having used one before I can say with confidence that this is the Cadillac of weight distribution hitches and also doubles as a theft deterrent since you need the specialized shank it comes with in order to couple up to the trailer. It is a...
