Notes:
Have you ever hit a bump while towing and had that road shock jostle and shake you all the way down to your bones? It's a common feeling. Most ball mounts are made almost completely of metal, so there's nothing to help soften the shock when you hit a bump. This results in a bumpy, jerky ride that not only takes a toll on you as you drive, but it beats up your equipment too, leading to premature wear and tear on both your truck and trailer.
Fortunately, the Shocker Hitch Air will change all that.
Using a built-in air bag and rubber cushions, the Shocker Hitch Air acts like a small suspension system between your truck and trailer. The air bag and bumpers help absorb road shock, creating a smoother, more comfortable ride while also protecting your truck and trailer from unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes, chassis, trailer frame, and suspensions.
The body of the Shocker Hitch Air is designed to pivot back and forth on the shank, kind of like a seesaw or teeter totter, as the air bag, which sits directly beneath your truck's receiver, and the cushioned bumpers take turns absorbing the road shock.
When you hit a bump and your trailer bounces, the unit pivots so that the air bag can isolate and absorb the energy. When your trailer jerks forward or backward, the 2 cushioned bumper stops help soften the force.
Using the easily accessible air valve on the side of the unit, you can adjust the air pressure in the Shocker Air's air bag to best accommodate your trailer's load. If you're hauling heavy-duty landscaping equipment, for example, you can add air to account for the increased capacity. Once the equipment is unloaded, simply release some air so that your underloaded trailer won't experience a stiff ride.
Finding the right pressure for your setup is simple. Once you've hooked up your trailer and the tongue weight is pushing down on the hitch ball, there will be a gap between the top of the adjustable channel and bumper.
Inflate the air bag until the bumper rests flush against the top of the hitch. Once the gap is gone, you'll know the air bag has the appropriate amount of air pressure for your load.
If you happen to get stuck in a situation where you're unable to inflate the bag, there's no need to worry; you can still tow your trailer. Without the inflated air bag, you won't get the full benefit of the Shocker Hitch Air, but you'll still get some built-in cushion with the bumper stops.
Adjusting the height of the hitch ball to accommodate for a different trailer takes almost no time at all. Just unclip the adjustment pins and grab the easy-to-grasp handles to remove them. Then slide the ball platform up or down to the desired position. Once you have the correct height, reinsert the pins and secure the clips, and fold back the handles so they're out of the way. Then you're ready to go.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com Today we'll take a look at this Shocker Air Receiver Hitch, with the Drop Ball Mount. The 2 5/16 diameter ball, and it's designed to fit into a 2 1/2 inch hitch receiver opening. It has a 12,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this is a nice shock absorbing air hitch. Features this industrial-strength airbag on the back, and up at the top these cushion bump stops, that will dampen any chucking and road shock. Now this will let you hook your trailer, your tow vehicle with the included 2 5/16 diameter hitch ball, on this drop ball mount.
And it installs into the 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. Now, the receiver opening should be flushed with your bumper or protruding from the rear of the vehicle for best fit of this. One note I do want to mention is this 2 1/2 inch shocker air receiver will fit a 3 inch hitch with a reducer sleeve. I also wanna show you underneath the shank here, this does extend the little bit about 5 1/2 inches below the receiver tube. And this does have two hitch pin holes.
So you can put it through whatever fits your application. They are 5/8 inch diameter, hitch pin holes. Now the hitch pins and clips are not included. We do sell those separately on our website. And the distance when you install this, if you use the front hitch pin hole, the distance from the center of that hole to the center ball is 10 inches.
If you use the rear one it's gonna be 11 inches. Now this drop ball mount right here, this will provide the ultimate smooth ride for taller pickups. I wanna zoom in and show you up close here. This air hitch basically works like a seesaw with the airbag on one end right here, and the trailer coupler on the other end. As your trailer exerts force downward, the unit will pivot and the airbag absorbs the energy.
So basically when your trailer jerks backward or pushes forward, the two cushion bump stops up here, will also reduce the force for a lot smoother ride. It all pivots right here on this large pivot bulk. And what's nice is if you look on this side, on the one end, they do put a grease Zerk fitting on there, at the pivot point, which allows you to hook a grease gun to and pump grease in there to make maintenance on that pivot bolt a lot easier. The airbag back here is an easily adjustable air bag. Right here, it has the valve stem. You just removed the cap, hook your air hose to there and pump air in there or release the air, whatever you need. For heavier loads, you wanna add more air, for lighter loads, you let the air out. Basically, to get the idea of how much air to put in there, you'll load your trailer the way it's gonna be towed, and then you inflate this air bag till the bump cushions up at the top here, start to compress. This is a nice, solid adjustable channel mount. This does provide eight holes with a range of adjustability, of the tow trailers of various heights. It will offer a drop anywhere from 4 1/2 inches, if this is to the top. All the way to the bottom, it'll be 8 1/2 inches of drop. Now, the eight hole design of this channel mount means it's a deep frame design, which is made for the late model, like the 2015 and newer GM and Ford trucks, three-quarter ton and larger, that have that extra steel reinforcement below the underside of the receiver too. If this is gonna be used on the older GM and Ford trucks, or the Dodge and Ram trucks that have the 2 1/2 inch hitch. The included spacer block right up here, and the wrench we need to install it right on top of the airbag. There's two bolts here that you'll remove, put the spacer block in there and tighten it down. That'll help keep the air bag at its proper operating height. Now, the inside width of the channel right here, that's about 3 3/4 inches. And what's nice, if you need to adjust your ball mount, slide it up or down, it's very easy to do. If you notice they have these large D-ring pins here with the large clips here. So basically, all you have to do is pull out your clip, just like that, slide your pin out, do the same on the bottom one. And then you can move your ball up or down or the ball mount up or down, into the adjustment holes. Once you find the right spot, slide your pins back in, and then go ahead and slide your clips back in to secure it. Now, this will work with all ships, shocker, hitch and ball mounts, and attachments. And including the combo ball mount, the pintle hook, the sway bar mount, and many other attachments that'll fit right in the channel mount. All of those, we do sell separately on our website. This is a nice grade 50 steel plate construction and a cold-rolled steel shank provides durability. And all the parts are powder coated to prevent rust. The ball itself is zinc-plated. A few specs on this. Gross towing weight capacity 12,000 pounds. Tongue weight capacity of 1200 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this Shocker Air Receiver Hitch, with the Drop Ball Mount. The 2 5/16 diameter Ball and the 2 1/2 inch Hitch Receiver..
