2001 Toyota Sequoia - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit

  • Diode Kit
  • Splices into Vehicle Wiring
  • Tail Light Mount
  • Universal
  • Roadmaster

Diode kit allows you to use your Subaru Impreza's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. Wires 2-wire and 3-wire systems to operate as a combined lighting systems. Includes 7-wire to 6-wire Flexo-Coil electrical cord.

Features:

  • Lets you wire your Toyota Sequoia to accept your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights for flat towing
  • Wires towed car as combined system so that brake and turn signals travel along same wire
  • Prevents electrical feedback and the damage it can cause to your Toyota Sequoia's electrical components
  • Diodes powder coated aluminum case is corrosion resistant and provides protection from the elements
  • Brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if used with supplemental braking system
  • Flexo-Coil cord is resitant to water, oil, chemicals, and has silicone-injected plugs to prevent corrosion
  • Center pin on 6-Way plug wired to 12V power, there are two industry standards
  • Includes:
    • 4 Hy-Power diodes
    • 4-Wire harness
      • 27" Long
    • Wire connectors
    • Cable ties
    • 1 Ring terminal
    • 3' Long plastic loom
    • 8' Coiled cord
    • Vehicle mounting bracket
    • Socket
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Specs:

  • Diode Max amperage: 85 amps
  • Diode Max voltage: 24 volts
  • Coiled cord max length: 8'
  • Coiled cord retracted length: 15"

Note: For applications that have separate lighting, this kit will cause your brake lights to function as both brake and turn signal lights. A wiring converter (118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes (RM-792) will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.

Separate vs. Combined Lighting Systems

Some automobiles operate on a 3-wire system, wherein the brake signal and the turn signals travel along different wires to illuminate different lights. (Typically, these Toyota Sequoias have amber turn signals.) This is referred to as a "separate lighting system". When you hook up for flat towing using this kit, your towed car's lighting system will operate in a combined fashion regardless of whether it typically has combined or separate lighting. This means that the brake and turn signals sent by your RV to your towed car will be carried on a single wire. As a result, your car's brake lights will do the flashing for the turn signals. Your Toyota Sequoia will still function as designed when not hooked up to your RV.

Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?

Because this kit wires your Toyota Sequoia as a combined system, a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed car every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

Very complete kit. My only problem mounting it in a 2014 Chevy Spark is the limited space for the diodes. After much trial and fitting I found a suitable location. See photo.

System has worked great on several trips in the last year. Including a 5,407 mile trip out west.

This item was recommended by Jameson once he saw what I was planning to order for the tow bars and brake system. It was installed by a shop on the etrailer authorized installers list, along with everything else for the entire towing system. It does attach to both vehicles just fine, although at first I wasn't sure it was fully attached on the motorhome side. I was afraid it would just slide back out, but it hasn't.

Finished wiring and first effort to plug in red flex coil to the Jeep and the outside protection cover broke apart; very disappointing. Trying to contact Etrailer for replacement.

Toyota Tacoma

2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 install, summer of 2023. This was simple to install. Easy to run along the underside of the truck and snake up into the taillights. Plenty of wire and worked fine when complete.

by:

Haven't installed it yet, but the kit seems to include everything I need. My contact at etrailer did a great job of getting me exactly the right parts to complete my flat tow package, and the videos available on the web site to help with installation are a great feature. I don't think I would tackle this installation myself without all of the helpful information these folks provide.

Thank you for reaching out! I would love to see pictures and how your trip went once it is installed. Happy Trails Gary.

This seemed unnecessary but is really the only proper solution when working with LED taillights. It works perfectly.

Jeep Wrangler

I've used this setup for a year towing a 2023 Jeep Wrangler . I 100% recommend it for anyone else. Under normal conditions it is very easy. Under stressful conditions (bad weather, uneven terrain, need to connect/disconnect quickly) it is a life saver.
I am 63 and I can connect/disconnect this in 5 minutes.

by:

This kit worked out well. It contained everything needed to tap into my vehicles lights and continues to be trouble free after a year of use.

by:

Worked fantastic.. after I received it I installed it and went from indiana out west. I have put around 9 thousand miles on it so far.

by:

I have to say : E trailer always delivers !
This is exactly what ya need if you are adding a second vehicle or swapping your old system to a new rig. I could have gotten by without the plug but for the price decided I should get a spare.
Delivery was prompt and product was exactly as described.

GMC Sierra

The wiring kit does what it is supposed to do. I would like to see all of the terminal connections to be the marine grade heat shrink type with the solder inside. The type that join the wires with a heat-gun. I installed this in a 2024 GMC Sierra Denali 1500. I chose to mount the connector by drilling an hole through the plastic front license plate. This will be covered with a flip-up license plate frame. All-in-all, I would purchase this set again.

2011 Jeep Wrangler

We added this kit and tow cable to keep our Jeep battery charged while towing, so the supplemental brake could stay powered. It has worked well for us for several long trips from GA to NH and MI. The Jeep side of the tow cable ended up with a crack in the metal plug, but we were able to get a replacement plug and rewire it pretty easily. We are going to complete the wiring for the tail lights before our next trip.

Installed as per video...I had a local car/truck accessory shop install mind as way too many facial screws for me to content with. $400 to have it done right.
(A little worried that if I get too close to a vehicle or wall that some damage my occur as cable connector and braking wiring sticks out 3-4 inches from front of car.) My older system was cleaner design across the front of the car.

by:
2011 Jeep Wrangler

The video instructions made this harness very easy to install (other than routing the wire to the back of the Jeep). Everything functions as it should. I'm very happy I went with this harness versus magnetic lighting.

by:

My Roadmaster Sterling tow bar has a channel for the wiring kit to run through. the coiled wire is not easy to work with on this bar if you want it to run through the channel. 10 months into using it the 6 wire end disintegrated and had to be replaced. luckily we were camped right beside a Camping World.

by:

Easy to install with great instructions provided.

2009 Ram 2500

A bit of a learning curve for first time dyi on this type of thing. Key is to make sure you figure out what type of brake light systems you have. There are 2 types and 2 different wiring diagrams. Read directions thoroughly. Works well. 2009 dodge 2500 install

Still working fine.

by:

Just wanted everyone to know, that after one year of owning and using the Roadmaster towing baseplate, and the wiring harness for my 2022 Ford Maverick, I have accumulated over 10,000 miles of trouble free towing behind my Motorhome. The folks at etrailer did a great job making sure I had the right parts and at a good price. Delivery of the parts was exactly the day it was promised. I highly recommend them when need these kind of parts. I really appreciated the great and friendly service!! Safe travels

by:

Works good. Reasonably easy to install. The diodes are large and you have to get them 'just so' behind the tail lamp assemblies to get the lights to seat properly.

by:

Project went as expected. I did purchase additional split loom from Harbor Freight to protect the wires from the front to the rear of my truck. It easily ran inside the frame rails!

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2016 Cadillac Escalade
Along with the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1716 and the Blue Ox Alpha 2 Tow Bar # BX7380 there are a couple more parts you need in order to safely flat tow your 2016 Cadillac Escalade. Since the Alpha comes with safety chains we can check that off the list but you will also need a wiring kit in order to activate your Escalade's brake lights and turn signals. • Does 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Need Base Plate to be Flat Towed
Your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee does require a base plate in order for you to flat tow it; the reason for this is because it gives you the most secure and stable connection to your motorhome and that the tow hooks are for recovery purposes and not intended to tow the vehicle. Most importantly this increases the safety of flat towing but it is also the best thing to do for your Jeep in terms of its chassis and suspension.
