Works great at slowing down my heavy Ford F250 tailgate when opening. It was actually a bit dangerous to lower the tailgate before, and definitely I needed to have both hands on it. Now I can release the latch with one hand and step back for a soft opening.
Very misleading as to which part number to order on the website. When I called to resolve the ordering issue I was not offered any help, refund or otherwise. I have had great experiences in the past with etrailer but unfortunately this was not their best. Because of this I have started shopping elsewhere and don’t plan to return as a customer.
This product is the easiest to install and most helpful to use modification on my truck, for the price...the return on investment is excellent. I've ordered and installed these tailgate assists on four different Ford Superdutys and every one of them has worked so well that I, well, installed them on four of my trucks! It's a pleasure to just pop the tailgate latch and let go as the tailgate slowly lowers itself, especially helpful when my hands/arms are full with something...Kudos to the inventor!!
This product allows my younger kids to open the tailgate safely. You just pull up on tailgate release and it opens smooth and controlled. Also nice if your hands are full and you don't like the dropping and slamming of the stock style tailgate.
Installed on my 2004 F-250 and am extremely pleased with the product. It was easy to install and works great!
For those who might be interested, I ordered two kits and installed one on each side of the tailgate. The passenger side requires a few added steps. First, the hole for the threaded ball mount has to be drilled up to 31/64". Primer the bare edges. Next, the tailgate hinge on the passenger side is made to allow removing the tailgate. The shock will tend to pull the tailgate hinge up and out as it drops. Simple fix is to install a hose clamp around the hinge and it stays in place. Before that is done, there is a rubber insert in the hinge and it should be greased or it will make a bit of noise as the tailgate drops. Having the two shocks on there lowers the tailgate slower and takes all the torque off just the one on the driver's side.

Still working great after a year of use.
I bought the DeeZee Easy Tailgate for my 2015 F250 Super Duty after reading reviews from other owners. My tailgate is quite heavy since it has the step assist system which slides inside the tailgate, and I don’t like to just let it go and bang at the bottom. I actually ordered two because of the weight of the tailgate, thinking it might be needed. I installed just one DeeZee Easy Tailgate a year ago and have no issues whatsoever. Now, when I lower the tailgate, I just pull the latch and let it go. It opens slow enough to not bang when fully opened. I still have the second one I bought, just incase the one installed ever fails. I highly recommend the DeeZee Tailgate for a smooth opening of your tailgate.

Great! I love the easy it lowers the tailgate. Still as good as new.
It really helps dropping the tailgate with the fifth wheel hooked up. I added a second one to the other side since it has a lock on it so it doesn’t pop out of the hinge. I can pull the handle and let it go.
After a year, it's still dropping slow! I love this product. I bought 2 of them. One for my '99 Superduty and one for my '16 Superduty. Both work as great as the day I installed them. Install was very simple with a few tools and instructions are clear. I highly recommend this to every dude I see slamming there tailgates down. Don't be that guy. You won't regret it.
Great instructions, easy to install. Glad it came with the torq bit tool so only typical tooling is needed. It works mostly like I expected, it will dampen the tailgate going down in the last half of motion. Some that I've seen, factory versions, they control the speed of the tailgate all the way, whereas this one, your tailgate will start off fast but slow down the last half of the range. Not an issue just something to be aware of in case you have a different expectation. I feel confident in letting my kids open my tailgate now and not having it slam down on them. Well worth the $[XX] for my 2008 F-350.

Still working great, actually its used in an ongoing prank to unsuspecting people. We open the tailgate and let go, they panic to catch it, but by the time they get to it the shock absorber has it under control...hehe
The tailgate assist product was not what I had expected, I had hoped it would help take some of the weight off the gate to make it easier to lift also, it did help some but not what I had expected. Maybe I need to install the spring bar also. It is very hard for my wife to shut the tail gate.
It does a good job in lowering but not in lifting.

The spring bar system is probably what you are looking for. This assist from DeeZee is designed to slowly let the tail gate lower, it will not really help with lifting the tail gate back into position like a spring bar device would. Pairing them together may be too much and would prevent the tail gate from coming all the way down, but we have not tested them together yet. The spring bar sized for your 2007 Ford Superduty is part 74211 from Hopkins.
This gadget is the best mod I have ever added to a vehicle. It allows dropping the tailgate with one hand without slamming it open. I LOVE IT!! Simple installation, no drilling. Wish I had done this sooner and on previous other trucks.

I installed this 1 year ago and I STILL LOVE IT! Best invention ever! Super easy to install and use. If you dont have one yet, get one. You wont regret it.
Tired of your tailgate falling on you every time you open it up.Get the DZ tailgate lowering assist . It was easy to install no drilling required it only took ten minutes and it works perfect on my f250.

Bought a tailgate lowering system last year and does love it .
Wondering why in 2013 Ford never had that on their pickup F450 Platinum.
Just a few dollars made such a difference.
Easy to install and work very well.

Great love it.
As advertised. My sons were typical boys letting tailgate drop and slam. Guess it makes them feel like they are working. Anyway, now even my old self can open and close. Excellent upgrade.
So I’ve had this installed quite a while now and I’m very happy with it the tailgate lowers quickly at first then slows down for the last 1/2 of the travel I would love to have lower even slower but definitely an improvement

Zero issues, works like the day I installed it.
Just got my Second tail gate lowering System .there great easy for the wife to use and I don’t worry about tailgate fall on the grandkids
The first one I received worked for about 2 months, then the shock started coming off the tailgate. I contacted etrailer.com and they got me a replacement that is working fantastic as of right now. The difference seems to be that the first shock that I installed didn't work correctly, would only start working about 1 inch before the tailgate hit the end of the cables. The new shock in the newer package is working from the start of lowering of the tailgate and has much more resistance when it is lowered. Thank you for the help Etrailer.
I actually installed two of these on my tailgate, which required reaming out the other (passenger) side's hole and locking the tailgate removal slot with a rubber sleeve and hose clamp. Haven't had an issue yet and it feels like there's a lot less stress throughout the system.
saw one on a friends truck and decided to give it a try. keeps the tailgate from banging down when someone besides myself opens it. easy install and hopefully does the job for a long time.

George, the tailgate assist is still working fine. i will say i love it but i also am so used to holding up the tailgate to keep it from slamming that sometimes i forget i have the thing. i have noticed others that use my tailgate are a little startled when they tailgate doesnt . i then use that to tell them what is is and where i got it and hopefully they come and get one from you. i have had great success with everything i have gotten from you.
I purchased both the Hopkins Easy Lift and the DeeZee Tail Gate assist. I was concerned with a potential interference issue with nothing being confirmed in all reviews that I could find online. I installed both in about 2 hours on my 2004 Ford F350 Supercab Duelly . I operated the tailgate with the DeeZee by itself, lowers smoothly, a little fast and you still have the weight of the tailgate to lift close. With the Hopkins Easy Lift installed and the DeeZee installed the tailgate lowers smoothly (no slam) and is easy to to close (one hand two fingers). There is no interference issues with both installed , both work well together. I am happy I bought both. For the price it's a great value as a retrofit. Now I can unlatch the tailgate start the downward motion and let go it smoothly lowers. To lift two fingers easily closes the tailgate. Please add this review to your web information. GREAT GREAT VALUE and performance. Sorry no pictures I am an old fa-t and don't know how to transfer pictures to the web. The white Duelly in your web reviews is accurate (change the color to red and you have mine). As far as instructions for both they are fair, DeeZee could add how to remove the damper after installed to the ball pins. As for the Hopkins hole "A" dimension is accurate ( this is the hole common to the left vertical box side) install the torsion bar and then mark the tailgate to match the mark on the torsion bar. Drill tailgate as instructed in on package. The part I received was marked "B" on both ends. But not difficult to know which was "A"and "B". Again five stars GREAT GREAT VALUE.
like the way the tailgate doesnt come slamming down when I open it. I just unlatch and let go! Seems to be holding up very well.

Still working great, great product
Works well, easy to install, only issue is that it caused the tailgate rubber dampener to fall off; however no noise or fit issue because of this design defect.

Still working, tailgate s slow, dont have to hold it.
The item was perfect for my application. It only took a few minutes to install the item. The only thing you will need to do is remove the rubber bushing near the taillight, and it's best you do this before the install process. Otherwise the install went flawlessly and the product was great and works great. Thanks.

The product still works like it did on day one. Makes opening the heavy tailgate easy
This product relieves that jarring thud of the tailgate opening. I have it on a One Ton Pickup and with the added height it's easier on your arms when you are lowering the tailgate.

One year later and that lift assist is still working like a warrior. Like many extreme cold states, my truck is abused by weather, road conditions and general use, yet this product performs like the day I installed it..a wise purchase for anyone wanting a tailgate assist!
