Hey Kathy! As long as you have a 7-way already on your 2024 Model Y you can use the Adapter 7 Pole to 4 Pole with Tester and Cover # 47345. This is a universal part that will allow you to connect a 4-way for trailer lights to the 7-way on your vehicle.

Will you be using this to tow a trailer like the Yakima Rack and Roll # Y08107?

Yes, I plan to buy a Yakima Rack and Roll trailer. However, guidance from eTrailer says that a hitch receiver at 14 inches above ground needs a ball mount with an 8 inch rise to reach the 22 inch height specified by the trailer in order to keep the trailer level. But Tesla specifies that the model Y ball mount have a rise of no more than 3/4 of an inch. Do I follow the Tesla recommendation and have my trailer slanted down rather than level? The trailer and kayak together are less than the maximum tongue weight for the Tesla model Y which is 350 pounds.

@KathyH I see, that is an issue. I can't really tell you to use a ball mount with more of a rise since Tesla says it is not allowed. It looks like there is some debate about this online because of the differences in the hitch between the Model X and Model Y. However, it sounds like it comes down to the design of the hitch and the potential forces from a ball mount with a greater rise causing problems. You really want to try to keep it as level as possible. Would the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD or # Y82KD (with alloy wheels) work for you? This sits a little lower, and has a recommended ball height of 19" so 3" closer to level. Malone also makes the MicroSport Off-Road Base Trailer # MAL44ER which requires 18" from the ground to the top of the ball.
