Availability of Bunks for Yakima LowRider

I have a Yakima LowRider trailer and would like to add bunks for my kayak to rest on. Since the HD Bar is a t-track bar, I thought there might be something I could use to install the bunks. Ive been looking on the website but havent found anything yet. Thanks for the help.

Hey Paul! Yakima doesn't really have a good way to mount bunks on the LowRider # Y82QD. There really aren't brackets to mount bunks in the T-slots either. What most LowRider owners choose to use is the Yakima BigCatch Kayak Roof Rack # Y04091.
If you really want to use bunk boards, you will have to decide on the length you need, get some bunk brackets, and then U-bolts appropriately sized for the HD bars to mount them. If you take a look at the Malone EcoLight Sport # MAL73FR and CE Smith Multi Sport Plus # CE48870 you can get a visual for what this will look like.

I think I have a plan on installing the bunks. The bunks I'm using are 3" PVC pipes that I had setup for the bed of my pickup. I cut half circle cradles into four 6" x 3' x 2" HDPE blocks for the PVC pipes to rest on. I was planning to use t-nuts and long bolts to attach to the cradle to the HD bar on the LowRider. However, the bolts and T-nuts fit the standard size 1/2" t-slot and the t-slot in the HD bar is 3/4" wide. I'm considering the YakAttack Feelfree adapters for their T-bolts. These may help fit the larger than standard t-slot in the LowRider HD bar. I've reached out to Yakima to see if they have any better options. The BigCatch Rack is nice and a bit pricy. My option is much cheaper and possibly a better fit for my Old Town AutoPilot 136. I'm concerned there would be too much weight on the 4 BigCatch pads and which may cause some hull bending at the pads. The PVC rests in the hull over a longer span and more weight distribution in the hull tunnels. I plan on leaving the kayak on the trailer all the time. I'm open to other ideas and options.
