Is It Possible To Add A Second Tier To The LowRider Kayak Trailer Y82QD?

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 05/02/2025

Question:

I am think about adding a second level to this trailer to store kayaks on the bottom. Then Im think of mounting Part Number: Y01151-57 to add a solid foundation for a Roof Tentinch Part Number: Y01151-57 with the adjustable features and 500lbs would be most groovy if the part can mount to the trailer frame like a truck bed frame. Thoughts. The max weight of the trailer is better than the other double level which is only 500lbs. Thanks!

Hello Dick, thanks for reaching out. That is an interesting idea but the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-57 is designed to attach to the bed rails on a pickup truck. So there is no guarantee this would work with the LowRider Kayak Trailer. There might be a way to make it work, but this is not something we have ever tested so there is no handbook or instructions I could provide. The LowRider Kayak Trailer is not intended to have a second tier unfortunately so if you were to set something like that up it would be a completely a custom job.

Yakima does make the Double Decker Kayak Trailer # Y97TR which is designed to carry four kayaks.

Hey Dick, did you decide to go with the Yakima Double Decker Kayak Trailer for your setup? I'm curious to know how it worked out, as it could help others considering a similar custom project.
