Rough pavement, dips, and potholes can make a trailer bounce and sway. The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers use heavy-duty, nitrogen-charged gas shocks to tame that motion. Each shock compresses and extends between 11-1/2" and 17-1/2", absorbing road impact through the full range of movement. The result is more stability on the road and less jarring inside the trailer when you hit uneven pavement.
Traditional shocks often sit at a steep angle that limits how well they control motion. Roadmaster’s adjustable brackets let these shocks mount nearly vertical—angled about 15° outward—so they counter both up-and-down and side-to-side movement. That keeps sway under control and helps the trailer track straight, even during sudden lane changes or over rolling terrain.
This system is made specifically for tandem-axle setups using 3-1/2" diameter axles—typical of 8,000-lb applications. It’s engineered to handle the weight those axles carry without being too stiff or too soft, giving consistent damping performance mile after mile.
Everything needed to mount the shocks comes in the kit. The upper brackets bolt to the trailer frame, while the included tie plates with extension pieces replace your existing U-bolt plates. Once installed, the shocks connect between these points to control axle movement. Some drilling is required for the frame brackets, but the bolt-on design keeps setup straightforward.
Each Comfort Ride system goes through rigorous validation, including Finite Element Analysis and real-world durability testing at Navistar’s Proving Grounds. That means every component—from the gas shock absorbers to the brackets and plates—is built to stand up to years of towing stress with dependable performance.

Great. On a 32 ft. WildCat fifth wheel..No problems. In the driveway, I installed the Shock system, heavier springs. I had to modify the shock-to-frame brackets, as the trailer has been raised 5 inches. Along with the MorRyde Stabilizers the trailer tows like a dream. Be sure to have the wet bolt grease nipples pointing out to the side of the unit for easier access. Next project will be to replace the scary Magnetic Brakes with a hydraulic system. Thanks etrailer. Kudos to your wonderful support crew. It was just like calling my buddy next door.

This product has performed very well with over 12,000 mixed dirt and road miles. The custom installation I had to come up with because of the torque tube on the Alliance frame with is still very solid and secure. I also Double plated as recommended and had longer U bolts made to accommodate the extra thickness.
