Good question, Nick!

The Dexter Replacement Dexter Bolt-On Shock Kit # K71-697-00 is designed to fit a 2-3/8" or 3" diameter axle. An 8,000 pound axle will measure 3-1/2", so I cannot recommend going this way. It will be underrated and won't really do what you want it to.

I know this is quite a bit more expensive, but the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2470 is specifically designed for an 8,000 pound 3-1/2" axle and would be what I recommend (plus the # RM-2470-50 if you have 3 axles). We have sold quite a few of these and I can honestly say I have never heard a bad thing after the install was done.

Are you 100% on going the route of shocks? We may have another option if you are interested.

Hey Nick, Did you decide to go with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for your 8,000-pound axle, or are you considering other options? I'm asking because your experience could help others in a similar situation.
