Bring your single-, double-, or triple-axle trailer to a stop should it become disconnected while towing. Includes a charger that maintains battery so you're always ready for an emergency and U-bolts so you can mount it to your trailer jack.

Note: A breakaway system is required by law in most states for trailers that are equipped with electric brakes and have a GTW of at least 3,000 lbs.
Quick Tips:
- When you store your trailer, be sure to keep the pin plugged into the breakaway switch. If the pin's removed for an extended period of time, dirt and moisture can get into the switch and cause corrosion that could keep it from activating when you need it.
- A breakaway system needs to be able to apply the trailer brakes fully for at least 15 minutes. In general, the heavier your trailer, the higher amperage battery you'll need for the breakaway.

The u-bolts worked great for mounting the battery box on an electric tongue jack. I ended up heat shrinking the leads coming out and then siliconed the hole so no water could get in. I was not able to fully test the break away switch and stop the trailer with the battery but feel confident in the product.

I also bought a new plug with attached junction box. The battery and charger were straight forward to wire. The only problem I had was that my old trailer wire colors did not match the new plug colors. Once I sorted out my wires everything worked well. I think it is a good battery kit

HAD TO DRILL NEW HOLES BUT OTHERWISE INSTALL WAS EASY JUST CUT AND CRIMP WIRES USED HEAT SHRINK AND SEAL BUTT CONNECTORS.

This was a replacement for an aging unit. Installation was straightforward. I hope to never need the unit as it would only come in to use in the event of a loose trailer so I cannot comment on it's function.

- Mounting Hole Pattern of Curt C52042 Push to Test Trailer Break Away System Battery BoxI had one of the # C52042 push to test break away kits pulled from inventory, and found that the bolt pattern of the # C52042 measures 5-1/2 by 3-1/2 inches. I've linked though our in-stock systems and haven't found a push to test break away kit with the same 3 x 4-1/2 bolt pattern as the # C52040. However, since the # C52042 is larger, you could simply fasten it to the trailer frame by drilling through the bottom of the battery box, if you're reluctant to drill new mounting holes into...

- Is Pulling Out Breakaway Pin of Trailer Breakaway System DifficultBreakaway pins are designed to be somewhat difficult to pull out by hand which helps prevent them from accidentally getting pulled when not needed. I've yanked one out by hand once and I really had to pull hard on it. If this system was ever needed the weight of the trailer would be what pulls it out which is considerably more force than a person could exert by hand. The battery can be tested for 14Vh. During the operation, the system provides a trickle charge to maintain battery voltage. When battery voltage is under 6V, the tester circuit will not have power and the red or green light on the switch will not activate, indicating that the battery is dead. I recommend using a break away kit with a battery tester like item # 20099.
