Features to know about

Get Grip When Roads Turn to Ice: Diamond Pattern with D-Links and Traction Plates

When the road ices over or snow piles up, these chains dig in and hold. The diamond pattern spreads the load evenly across the tread so you stay steady, and the D-links with built-in ice spikes bite down hard for reliable traction. The welded traction plates break ice apart instead of just sliding across it, keeping your tires firmly connected to the surface in deep snow or glazed conditions.

Keep Moving Without Re-Tightening: Self-Tensioning, Self-Centering Design

No need to stop mid-drive to tighten your chains. The K-Summit system automatically tensions and centers as you go, keeping the fit snug on every rotation. The integrated ratchet system provides strong, even pressure for the right grip, while active tensioning elements adjust to changes in tire shape and wear. Once you’re on the road, the chains take care of themselves.

Solve Clearance Problems: Zero Interference Behind the Wheel

If you’ve ever worried about brake lines or suspension parts getting chewed up by chains, these take that concern out of the picture. The K-Summit rides on the tread only, attaching securely to one lug nut with the provided adapters. There’s no chain behind the tire, which means zero inside clearance is required. This setup meets SAE Class S standards, creating a true solution for vehicles with tight wheel wells.

Protect Your Rims and Keep Things Simple: Wheel-Shielded Design and Easy Removal

These chains never touch your wheels, so your rims stay protected from scratches or scuffs. The external release system makes removal fast and clean when you’re done driving through snow. Sturdy, foldable arms let you pack them down small into the included nylon storage bag until the next snow day.

Ready for Real Winter Driving: Built Strong and Certified for Performance

Each set is built with durable steel chain sections and reinforced traction plates that stand up to repeated use in harsh winter conditions. They’re certified to Ö-Norm 5117, UNI 11313, and TÜV standards, so you can count on consistent safety and reliability. Fits 16" – 24" tires, requires no internal clearance, and includes three lug-nut adapters (17 mm, 19 mm, and 21-22 mm). Backed by a 5-year warranty.

Step 1 of Konig K-Summit tire chain installation showing a person removing a wheel lug nut cover using a tool.

Step 2 of Konig K-Summit tire chain installation showing a person choosing the correct lug nut adapter and attaching it to the fixing key.

Step 3 of Konig K-Summit tire chain installation showing the chain being laid over the tire tread before fastening.

Step 4 of Konig K-Summit tire chain installation showing tightening of the lug nut adapter and securing the fixing key to the wheel hub.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Dodge Ram Pickup
Received my Konig K-Summit "K-79's" today. Made the adjustments for my 2023 RAM 1500 Limited tire (285/45/22). Test fitted the Chains as requested. I found the installation easy and straight forward. Hoping things go well in the snow if needed.

Although I have not had a chance to use the chains yet, the chains were easy to assemble and put on my truck tires. I received the order in plenty of time before my trip so that was a huge plus.

etrailer was awesome to deal with, processed my purchase and shipped it out very quickly. I like these chains, although they have some trouble self-tensioning on my tires. The chain on the inside gets caught in the tread of my tire, so you have to push it up and past that part to get it installed properly.

2022 chevrolet Equinox
These chains fit my 2022 chevrolet equinox perfectly. The manual on the car says not to use snow chains. There's no clearance behind the wheels and chains would hit and possibly mess up the brakes. I didn't know this untill I tryed to put chains on and they were no clearance and looked at the manual.I found these k summit chains I knew I had to have them. I fitted them on my car, they are so easy to put on and take off. I haven't had any snow to use them yet but winter is just starting and I will up date my review after we get snow.

Awesome grip. Easy to put in and take off. Great for low-clearance (oversized) wheels. Worth the price.

2013 Honda Accord
Had these K-Summit "chains" for a Toyota Corolla for 5+ years, and they worked so well that I immediately bought a new pair to fit my 2013 Honda Accord (different tire size), and they also work great. Used them the other day in 6" of unplowed snow, on the hill I live on. As long as you go slow (I usually drive < 25 MPH) they just keep moving you forward. Two quick notes: 1) I noticed going uphill that my wheels started skidding, then stopping, and repeated that annoying cycle, which made it harder than usual to continue moving forward. I quickly figured out that this was the way the anti-spin system worked on the car (which doesn't want you to spin your wheels). I disabled that and that odd behavior stopped. 2) The fitting guide, which tells you how many "links" or "regulation elements" (as the instructions calls them) to remove to fit the chain to the tire, is assuming you're placing them on all-season tires. When you use snow tires, as I do, you have to remove more links to get the chain to fit correctly. This is not a problem, but it's useful to know. The representative from Thule, the company from whom I bought my original set, admitted that they should mention this in the instruction guide.

Still great! Didn’t need them that often last season, but always nice to know they’re in the trunk if I do. Never been unable to complete trip with these “chains” attached.

So these are really expensive but there weren't a lot of options for my wide 22" tires. Are they worth it? Absolutely! These are my first chains so I wasn't sure what to expect, but once you make the initial size adjustments, it is super easy to get these on! I've seen other cars on the side of the road struggling to get their traditional chains on, where you have to lay down the chains, drive over, then wrap them around the tire and secure them.

With these, I just unfold them, push them onto the tires as far as they will go over the top and front and back, and slowly drive forward until they auto-adjust in place. A quick stop to double-check and make sure they are on all the way, and off I go.

Love them!

2016 Mini Cooper
This is an update to the review for the 2017 MINI Cooper with 205/45-17 tires. By taking off both spacers (red and silver), I was able to get the chains to center on the tire - I might even be able to put one of the chain tightening screws back on, maybe more as the tread wears down. So I think they're going to work well this winter. I'll bump the review up to five stars when I can figure out how to get them to easily fit into the carrying case.

These worked great. The first time I used them, I didnt tighten the screw enough and one of the chains came off while driving. But after learning to tighten them enough, I had no problems. It was a mild winter, but at least I know that driving 20 miles in 5 of unplowed snow up the mountain highway isnt a problem. And I finally figured out how to get them back into the case.

Chevrolet Colorado
These are adapters to allow the associated chain set fit some uncommon tire lugs. The adapters work flawlessly. Ordered them for the chain set as the rims on my vehicle require them. Fit perfectly as did the chains after adjustment.

However, I don't know how well they actually work on snow and ice. Based on experience with a number of other chain sets I see no reason to doubt their reliability and efficiency.

Backstory: Ordered a set for a trip to Colorado over Christmas & New Year's as we were expecting snow and ice as we were planning to travel to Estes Park, Denver, Colorado Springs, Salida, Buena Vista, Leadville, etc. Received our order quickly and correctly. Tried chains on tires and made fitting adjustments per instructions for exact tire size. Played with the chains a few times to make sure I knew how to get them deployed quickly. They are extremely easy to put on once they are adjusted. Watch the video - it really is that easy.

Fast forward a few weeks, we went on our trip. Got not much more than a dusting the whole trip and never had to put the chains on.

Meanwhile, back home, there were something like 129,000 poor bxxxxxxs waiting for the roads to be cleared and power to be restored from the huge ice and snow storms.

At the end of our trip we drove home over clear roads surrounded by big piles of plowed snow. Arrived home to find our neighbors huge tree uprooted and blown over. We didn't receive any damage. Next day got the hound out of doggie jail pretty much as if nothing had happened.

I like these chains!

Fits tight as a drum! The K44 is nice and snug on my 19’s. Kinda nervous about the stress on the tensioning strap and lug nut clinchers, but these things will be sweet if the Engineers did their job right! Only plan to use these for a few miles at a time, so if all goes well they’ll last me a good long while

BMW X3
We have a BMW X3 in the foothills of the Sierras and need to have chains on hand. Normal chains are not an option for the BMW X3. On the surface theses seem like a very slick product. In reality maybe for some. There are limited Choices for the X3, The K-Summit Size: K45 seem OK but I have issues and concerns.
Once received you have to fit the chains to your tires. DO HIS IN THE GARAGE BEFORE YOU GO ANYWHERE. Doing this on the road in the snow would be a pain. If you like IKEA you’ll love the instructions. (Well maybe not that bad). Go on-line and look at some videos. I needed to remove 4 “regulation elements” on each chain to fit our tires. Tools are provided but I used a metric socket and a cordless drill to help with this and it took maybe 5 minutes. With hand tools the 8 total “elements’ would have taken 20 or more.
Now basically shove the chain more or less in place with plastic “pads at 10:00, 2:00, 4:00 and 8:00 O’Clock positions on the tire.
Next make sure you have the correct size lug nut adapter and the proper spacing from the rim. Supposedly just put the adaptor on a lug, with the indicating tip toward the rim center and tighten the bolt with the supplied wrench.
I found issues with the 17mm lug adapter and the 17mm BMW lug. The BMW lug is not very tall and the adapter never felt very securely seated to me. (Yes I made sure the adapter is seated correctly in the “cup”; instructions mention this). This may be better on other vehicles.
Lastly, pull the crank until you see the red line on the nylon strap. Dive forward 50 feet or so so the chains will move onto the tire. We got out of the car to check and it still required a couple of short toe kicks to fully get them securely on.
In summary they seem to “work OK”. I didn’t find any better options available for the X3. Once set up they are fairly easy to install with the exception of the lug nut connection which I found insecure and fussy on the X3. The plastic components give me concern for durability. Will they become brittle and break in cold temperatures or over extended use? Time will tell. Very costly if there is a failure on the road warrantee not withstanding.

I am using K-Summit chains on a Chevy Bolt to get to a house in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I need the extra grip to get up some steep hills if there is snow or ice on the ground. The chains successfully allow me to climb hills through snow at least 4 inches deep and over ice where I could not otherwise go. The chains are easy to install and remove. The problem is that after a few uses several of the D Links broke. The advantage is that the Konig sent replacement chains under warranty. (There was a bit of a communication mix up between Italy and the United States. If I was a bit more persistent, I'm sure the warranty process would have been much quicker.) Haven't yet had a need to put the replacement chains to much use, so don't yet know whether I received a defective set of chains or whether this design is not suited to my use (which shouldn't be overly demanding). The purchase was quick and easy with etrailer.com. The warranty replacement was handled directly by Konig.
by:
I am very impressed with the quality, unique design and ease of installation. I have test fit these chains to our vehicle and the fit is great for our application where the chains cannot extend to the inside of the tire as there is no clearance. Having said this, to date we have not used the chains in the snow. We live in the Sierra Mountains of California in a location where we are required to carry chains. However, in our area it is rare that the road crews have not cleared the snow to the point where four-wheel-drive will suffice. I'm assuming I would rate these chains with five stars after actual road use.

2021 Tesla Model S
It fits! I have a Tesla Model S with 21" staggered wheels, I don't need chains but I must carry to comply and it gives me peace of mind.
etrailer can't recommend it, but Konig's website did Say the XL K55 model fits 265/35-21.

It came with 3 size of nut grabbers and nut spacers. There was no manual in the box but I found it online. The manual is needed because the chain can be made wider removing some springs and the manual says how many according to the tire size.

Honda Accord
Etrailer.com did an excellent job in shipping the two sets of chains that I ordered. Super detailed tracking information was awesome. It always makes me nervous when buying over the internet that a retailer may ship the wrong item especially considering how many different sizes these chains are available. I will point out that the chains were advertised as Thule. However, I received one set of Thule and the other set was Konig who bought out this chain line from Thule in 12/2015. In comparing the two brands side-by-side, the components and build are absolutely indistinguishable from each other with the exception of the brand stickers. I have no reason to believe one brand to be superior to the other. The K56's fit my Honda Accord 225/65/17 tires like a glove. They are a combination of simplicity and sophistication, if that's possible. I can't wait to try them out on the ice and snow. Thank you etrailer.com and I would definitely order from you again.
by:
I'm giving these four stars as I haven't tried them in snow. I bought them in Spring to save a few $$.

The instructions are a little weird as the English translation isn't great and the pics are unclear in a few places. The instruction videos on etrailer are very helpful.

You MUST set these up before you need to use them as they have to be sized to your specific tire dimensions and lug nut.

The tightening wrench has a torque setting. When you fit the lug nut connection you tighten until you hear a click. It ends up really tight and took a little work to remove.

After the lug connection is on, you tighten a ratchet before rolling the vehicle to complete installation. I didn't notice at first you only tighten until you see a line of red stitching. Because of that the chain didn't go on property. I reset and tried again and all was fine.

These go on very tight. At least if you follow instructions to the letter.

Hope they do what I need them to do in winter.
by:
It works! Not so easy to learn how to use/installation (lack of online and general installation guide) but once figure out, it works. It's costly (10 times more expensive than normal snow chains) but I guess that's the price to pay for Porsche chain; yaiks! I wish they address those 2 issues in the future; price and installation instruction.
by:
Bought these for my Model X and so far I’ve only needed to use them a few times. These chains were pretty easy to put on. The hard part is making sure the lug nut grabber has thoroughly grabber the nut so the chains clamp down properly. Watch some YouTube. Videos

The instructions are pretty clear on how to adjust these for your tire size. Do that adjustment as soon as you can after purchase. As this is not fun to do on the side of the road.
by:
Customer service and shipping were spot on. Product is very sturdy, and a little quirky to adjust, but with a short test around the block worked extremely well. Instructions are for a slightly different, earlier model, but adequate. I would recommend if you must have chains for a high performance vehicle.

  • Snow Tire Chains For 265/70R18 Tires On A 2024 Lexus GX 550
Hi Michael! We definitely have tire chains for those 265/70R18 tires. The problem is, when I checked the owner's manual for a 2024 Lexus GX 550 to see if you needed Class S rated chains (the ones for low/limited wheel well clearance), it said you cannot use tire chains with that tire size. This typically means there are things on the back of the wheel that can be damaged by chains and/or there is not enough clearance for them, but you may be able to contact a Lexus dealer to get more info...

Hello Frank, thanks for reaching out. I can definitely recommend a traction device that will fit the 275r60.20 tires on your 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT. Generally, when the owner's manual states not to use chains it is because of limited clearance in the wheel well or behind the tire. The best solution for this will be to use the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR. These attach to the wheel lugs. They give you grip all the way around the tire without taking up any space behind the tire....

I have a great solution for your tire chains. Unfortunately, if you have 275/50-22 tires on your 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, your owner's manual recommends not installing tire chains on this particular size. I have two solutions for you. For your GMC Denali with 275/50r22 tires we have the Konig Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - XD16 Pro - Size 279 # KON44FR. It is an on road chain with an integrated rubber tensioner and works in deep snow and ice. This is my first choice. I love the diamond pattern, it has much more surface area and promotes a multidirectional grip, not just front and back. My second choice is the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 w/ 275/60-R20 Tires
I have a set that will work, however your 2023 GMC Sierra 1500's owners manual says not to use tire chains because of clearance issues on the inner part of the tires. To avoid damaging brake lines and suspension pieces on the inside of your Sierra's wheel wells you'll need to use the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains item # KON24FR. The reason you can get away with using these is because they have a unique design where they mount on your tires using one of the lug nuts for the wheel. This mounting...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2021 GMC Yukon Denali with 275/50-22 Size Tires
Thanks for reaching out! There is a little to unpack here so bear with me; while my fellow Expert had good intentions and a good idea, ultimately his recommendation is incorrect and we will be updating that answer page accordingly. While the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR will fit 275/50-22 size tires, it's designed for smaller vehicles as the chains are smaller. Since your 2021 GMC Yukon is a bigger vehicle the weight will basically shorten the lifespan of the chains and they won't...

  • What Snow Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2021 GMC Yukon Denali?
Yes, you are correct that your owner's manual for your 2021 GMC Yukon Denali says that you shouldn't use tire chains on your 275/50-22 tires. The reason why manufacturers have this listed is to wash their hands of any liability just in case something interferes with the struts or other components in your wheel wells. This is very common. What we would do in this case is fit on tire chains in order to obey the traffic laws in your state. However, we need to also fit tire chains on your...

  • What Class S Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2021 Ford F-150 with 275/60-20 Tires?
As with all tire chains, it is always good to go with the recommendations outlined in the owner's manual when it comes to your size 275/60-20 tires on your 2021 Ford F-150. With that being said, the # TC3029 and # PW3029C will provide a little bit of traction to your BF Goodrich tires. If your owner's manual recommends against self-tensioners like the ones on the # KON24FR, it is better to find an alterative with no self-tensioner. At the end of the day, the Konig Snow Tire Chains - Diamond...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 Tire Size 275/70-18
Based on what the owners manual of your 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 says the only option we have for tire chains would be the Konig K-Summits part # KON24FR as they are only option that does not drape over the inside of the tire so your brake lines and suspension would not possibly be affected.

  • 2023 Chevy Tahoe Tire Chain Recommendation for 275/60R20 Tires
Since your 2023 Chevy Tahoe has clearance issues the only tire chain/traction device I recommend using are the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR as they mount using the lugs nuts on your wheel and the chain only sits on the tread of the tire so there isn't a chance for it to come into contact with things on the backside of the tire (like the brake lines). The manual states to only install the chains on the rear tires so if you install some of these on the front tires you'll run the...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 275/50R22 Tires on a 2021 Chevy Tahoe
The tire chains that you need to use for the 275/50R22 tires on your 2021 Chevy Tahoe are the Konig K-Summit XXL K79 # KON24FR. These are a unique design because they mount on your tires using the lug nut for then wheel and then there is no chain on the back side of the tire. This is important because when I looked up the owner's manual for your Tahoe it said not to use chains on your tire size because there are clearance issues on the back side of the tire.

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 285/55 R20 Tires
No, they do not but I have a comparable set that will. They are the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Chains w/ Cams for Wide Base Tires item # TC3231SCAM. These have square links that give excellent traction in the snow plus great grip on ice. The built in cam tighteners let you quickly adjust the fit for simple installation. You will want to check your owner's manual to see if your vehicle requires Class S compatible chains. If so you'll need the Konig Snow Tire Chains item # KON24FR. They are...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for Tire Size 275/60-20 of 2021 GMC Sierra 1500
Our tire chain fitguide is based on the tire sizes we know vehicles come with and it does not factor in the manufacturer of the vehicle's restrictions based on clearance. So for your 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 that has the tire size of 275/60-20 you'd want the K-Summit chains part # KON24FR which is only option that doesn't drape over inside of the tire sidewall so there would be no clearance issues at all. The other chains you mentioned would be too thick to fit properly.
