Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies and some interior paneling to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because your vehicle runs on a multiplex wiring system, the wiring needs to be converted to be compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Perfect fit. Just not give 5 stars as it’s quite “annoying” to instal:
1) removing the taillight is a PITA! Even removing two screws light did not get off! Broke after so much trying. The pressure pins that hold it are very strong and no much place to grab
2) Wiring the power from battery to the back is a hassle! And I’m an experienced mechanic! Took me about 45 minutes to find a way to route the wire (from inside the vehicle as from under will for sure not safe)

Its perfectly acceptable to run the wire under the vehicle, as long as you avoid anything thats hot or moving, like exhaust, steering and suspension components. If necessary, wire loom like part # 7509-1 which is sold by the foot can be used to provide additional protection to the wire.

Very easy instillation, the video helped very much. I didn't have a lift so used ramps to lift the car, even though no lift I installed the wiring harness in 1 and a half hours. I"am impressed with the etrailer team and the quality of their products. I will be back for sure very happy customer here

Good price.
Fast shipping.
Perfect
fit (2017 Kia Sportage LX)
Hitch installation (2 people/ vehicle lift) - less than 20 min.
Wiring harness (Tekonsha T-one) - time consuming but not difficult - 90 min.
Very pleased with this product.
Thanks much.

Easy installation without having to splice any wires or use a test probe and try to guess which wire is for what just unplug existing vehicle wires and plug in most of the time spent was disassembling the vehicle panels to get to the connectors the video is a huge help I watched it on my phone all along and paused at each step it was very helpful would not want to try without it I highly recommended

by:

Was easy to put in and the plug in wiring was a snap. Very happy with the purchase. Now I can bring my daughter to college with out having to bring 3 or 4 cars.

by:

Easy installation great product

by:

Hookup was easy and straight forward. The 4 wire for the trailer is made to be mounted outside but I saw no mention of an additional bracket needed when I ordered the kit. I would have liked another 2 foot of wire to keep that corrosion sensitive inside the car, next to the spare tire.

You are right in that adding on mounting bracket will be useful since the harness is stored outside the vehicle. I have one that I like recommend, part # C58001, which attaches to the hitch receiver to mount the plug next to it. That way it is right there whenever you need to use it. And it can be protected against corrosion by using dielectric grease part # LT37534. The harness also comes with a dust cap to cover the 4 way when not in use.

I ordered this for my SUV so I could hookup a trailer. Shipping was fast and I received in 4 days. I am not a mechanic by any means, with that being said, bought some car ramps and installed the hitch receiver (Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" - 76074). I also installed the wiring (T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - 118698). Took about 4.5 hours but overall look the look and feel. Everything went together great. I watch the video beforehand. I would highly recommend these products.

Great kit. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Installed myself in about hour. Never an issue. My trailer lights work every time. The only additional thing I do is apply a thin coat of diaelectric grease to the contacts to avoid water related corrosion. Absolutely no complaints with this kit. Works exactly as designed.

by:

I like this product. I was able to install this wiring harness in about an hour. Only thing that took me a little bit of time was running the harness where the brake light is attached to the fender well. It was a booger running that line up, but not something I couldn't do. Took a few minutes to run the black power line from the rear of the car to the battery under the hood, but again, wasn't something overly difficult to do. Just time consuming I suppose. As for the harness itself, it's well made and the connectors snap in precisely. I recommend. Just follow the online video instructions. Easy enough.

by:

Would love to give this 5 stars but first this, the wiring, parts, directions, ease of installation, videos and everything was EXCELLENT. However, the length of wire for the trailer connector, from even the closest placement possible (I moved it twice, as close to the hitch as possible while staying inside the wheel well) is just long enough. NO SLACK AT ALL. Needs to be about 8-12 inches longer.

by:
2018 Kia Sportage

Installation not quite as simple as the video shows when you "fish" the wires to the tail light connections. Almost like the ad's "As seen on TV" that make it look so easy to do. Still after the frustration of fishing the wires, still a good product.

by:

Very easy to install, especially after watching the video. When removing the tail light housing, I used a flat blade screw driver, covered with masking tape, to pry the housing away from the vehicle. And for the battery wire, I followed it along the brake lines. There's definitely no rubbing or heat risk, and it didn't require very many zip ties to hold it in place. The double-stick tape didn't want to hold at all, so I simply zip tied the module to the vehicle's wire bundle.

by:
2017 Kia Sportage

Well made with quality wires and parts. Install was straight forward and simple. Hardest part was getting the tail light housing off without breakage.

Very happy with etrailer.com so far ( I haven't installed my hitch yet). Their service to date has been excellent. I am a trailer newbie, so needed help choosing the towing components. The 2 folks I spoke to at etrailer.com could not have been more helpful. They answered all my questions and help select the correct components I needed. Would definitely recommend!!!

I recieved the products today. The help and customer service has been incredible so far! I will install the hitch and wiring harness this weekend. I will include an absolute honest review with pictures when I am finished !

by:

I had purchased a trailer hitch prior to purchasing the electrical connections and had such a great experience with the hitch, that I decided to also get the electrical connections from the same source. Again, the service and product was superior! I will definitely tell all my friends!

by:

All items purchased a year ago are still performing like new with no issues. Not only that, but the folks at etrailer check up on me on occasion to be sure that I have no problems. This is an awesome company and my only 'go-to' for trailer parts and products!

by:

This wiring harness was installed by a professional and seemed fairly easy for him to do. It included the plugs required for my vehicle and has worked perfectly since I've had it.

by:
2023 Kia Sportage

Excellent product! Very easy to find natal and fit perfectly. Etrailer is the place to get all my part’s! This was my 4th harness and my 3rd hitch! NEVER an issue! Well Done!!

by:

Easy plug and play kit the only hard time is running the wire to the battery but is definitely do able. Hard part is fishing wire through the tail light but bet all I give it a 5 star. Have not yet tested but I'm sure once I do it will work.

by:

I have yet to use the wiring harness, so I can't give an honest review, but the installation was great.

  • Difference Between Curt and etrailer Class III Trailer Hitches for 2022 Kia Sportage
There are a few small differences between the etrailer # e72TR and the Curt # C13281 Class III hitches, both of which are confirmed fits for a 2022 Kia Sportage. Both hitches would install in a similar manner, and the installation shares the same level of difficulty. The etrailer has a higher capacity at 4500 lbs towing/675 lbs tongue weight while the Curt has a 3500 lb towing/525 lb tongue weight capacity. However, the capacity advantage isn't really relevant because the capacity will...

The # C13281 and # e72TR Class III hitches are the exact same hitch, both are manufactured by Curt. The etrailer brand hitch has a matte powder coated finish, while the powder coat on the Curt hitch has a glossy finish. Some feel that the matte finish is a bit more desirable, as it tends to match the black underside of the bumper cover on the 2017 Sportage better which makes the hitch a little less visually obtrusive, but other than that (and the brand sticker affixed to it) the hitches...

In comparison to the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56321, the T-One has a different converter box which is easier to secure and more reliable (better potting).
