Features to know about

Installs Without Cutting or Splicing: Plug-In T-Connector Design

Wiring a trailer doesn’t have to mean cutting into factory wires. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector plugs inline with the existing tail light wiring behind the driver-side trim panel. It’s a true plug-and-play setup—no splicing, no guesswork. Just locate the factory connector, snap it in place, and you’re ready to tow.

Handles Turn, Brake, and Running Lights: Standard 4-Flat Output

Once connected, the built-in 4-way flat output provides power for your trailer’s running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. It delivers the basic lighting functions most small and mid-size trailers need so you can hit the road with safe, reliable visibility.

Built-In Converter Protects Vehicle Wiring

Vehicles with separate turn and brake circuits need signal conversion for trailer lights to work correctly. This harness includes an integrated converter that combines those signals safely. Rated at 3 amps per stop/turn circuit and 7.5 amps per tail light circuit, it handles typical trailer loads without overloading your vehicle’s system.

Clean Install Inside the Cargo Area: Protected When Not in Use

The 4-way connector is designed to be stowed inside the rear cargo area when you’re not towing. When it’s time to hook up, simply pull it out and close the hatch over the wiring—the weather stripping cushions it without damage. This keeps the plug dry, clean, and protected from corrosion between trips.

Simple Access Behind Factory Panels: Hidden but Practical Fitment

The connection points sit behind trim panels on the driver’s side, sometimes near or just ahead of an air conditioning unit. Once accessed, the harness tucks neatly back under the panel for a factory look. It’s a straightforward install that leaves nothing hanging loose or exposed.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

  • Circuit testing: Use a circuit tester (e.g., # PTW2993) to verify input/output signals at converter if trailer lights malfunction
  • Maximum current draw: Ensure total connected lighting load does not exceed converter’s capacity of 3 amps per stop/turn circuit and 7.5 amps per tail light circuit
  • Ground connection importance: White ground wire must be securely attached to rust- and paint-free metal for proper operation
  • Dielectric grease recommendation: Apply dielectric grease (# 11755) to all electrical connection points to prevent corrosion
  • Troubleshooting steps include: Verify clean connector contacts, secure fuses, and correct wiring function on both vehicle and trailer sides

Note

Wow!. Fast service. I ordered this item on a Monday, maybe around noon. By the next day around 3:00PM it was at my doorstep via UPS Ground.
This item works exactly as it should and was a breeze to install. Just like the video on the etrailer website demonstrated, you just basically plug it in to an existing plug on the vehicle, (a 2001 Chevrolet Venture), and connect the white ground wire to the body of the vehicle. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Ordered this for my brothers 2004 Chevy Venture. Installation was simple: Plug and Play! It's been a year and it still works perfectly. Can't say enough about this company. Super fast shipping, and excellent tech support if you need it.

by:

Works great. Was difficult to find the vehicle in-line connector. It was hidden behind wiring and tubing for rear blower assembly. Once located, and pulled out to get to it, install was a cinch. But I did have to remove LR taillight assembly to get enough wire release to pull factory connector plug assembly out of it's hiding place. Obviously, it did not go back where it came from.

This van is the Premier version of the Olds Silhouette.

by:

The trailer hitch installed in about 20 minutes and has functioned well towing small trailers. The wiring took a little longer to interpret the instructions, but once we got started, the install was very simple. I did not rate the product 5 stars because I have not put a significant load on the hitch to know how good it might be.

  • Troubleshooting Curt Wiring Harness Issue on 1997 Chevy Venture LS.
If everything works at your 4-way when using the circuit tester like # PTW2993 for each function, before you connect your trailer, then the issue is most likely a ground connection on your trailer. You will want to make sure you have a bare metal to metal connection free of corrosion, rust, or debris. You may want to check your trailer lights as well as sometimes they have a separate ground connection. If there is not function on the 4-way on your vehicle, then I recommend you check...

  • 4 Pole Trailer Connector on a 2004 Chevy Venture
I'm sorry you found the instructions with your wiring harness lacking. The 4-pole trailer connector is meant to be stowed in the rear cargo area when not in use. When you need to tow, run the 4 way out the door, and close the hatch on it. The weatherstripping provides enough cushion to prevent damage to the wires. Just be sure to keep the wire away from the latch, which WILL damage the wire. This arrangement protects the trailer connector from moisture, corrosion and damage. I use this...

  • Location of Factory Connection Point for Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2003 Chevy Venture
The plug will be there on a 2003. It is just that we have not had a 2003 Venture in to make a video but we have had a 2002 and 2004. To find the factory harness you will need to pull up the threshold panel in the cargo area so you can pull back the panel on the driver side. The wiring harness should be nearer the end of the vehicle. It can be either a single connector with nothing plugged into it or two connectors connected together. It can also be located behind an air conditioning unit...

  • Setting Up a 2004 Chevrolet Venture to Tow a 2,500 Pound Camper with Trailer Brakes
Suspension supplements like the Timbren kits we carry may or may not be needed. At 2,500 pounds dry you should be within the tow capacity of the Venture. If your total trailer weight is close to the limit of the van, then I would suggest a suspension supplement. Since you will be towing a camper that will have pretty much the same load each time, I would suggest the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System as it will not need to be adjusted for varying loads. You would use part # TGMRREN if...

Thank you for detailing your considerable efforts to troubleshoot the trailer lighting malfunctions you are experiencing with your 2001 Pontiac Montana equipped with Curt Tail Light Converter # C55355. Since you have tested the trailer with other vehicles and it has worked properly then the trailer would seem to have been eliminated as the source of the problem. Since the trailer lights are working when connected to the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, it sounds as though the converter that is in your 2004 Chevy Venture trailer wiring harness might be damaged. You will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and check the wire for the right turn signal that is going into the converter box. If it has power going into the box, then you will need to check the wire for the right turn signal coming out of the converter box. If there is no power...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2004 Pontiac Montana
Actually, all you will need to do is install a wiring harness, # C55355, on your 2004 Pontiac Montana. But if you wanted to use those factory wires, because you have separate wires for turn signals and brake lights, you would first need to install a converter. The converter, # RM-732, takes the separate signals and combines them which is what a trailer uses. To wire it up your yellow wire will go to the yellow wire on the converter, green will go to green, white will go to white, and red...

First thing I would recommend is checking out the install video I attached to the right that shows this harness being installed on a 2003 Chevy Venture just like yours. We have a few options for trailer hitches for your 2003 Chevrolet Venture. The # 24773 is not designed as a fit for your vehicle. My recommendation for a trailer hitch is the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13344. This is a Class lll hitch and has a 2 inch receiver opening. • Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness on 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette Shorting Out
To run down a short in a wire you will need to use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if you need one, to test the wiring and find the short. The place I would start is on the vehicle side of the converter. • Installation of a Brake Controller on a 2009 Pontiac Montana Van
On a 2009 Pontiac Montana Van the problem is that the installation of a brake controller can shut down the brake light system in the van. The red brake wire that is on the back of the brake controller is normally connected to the cold side of the brake light switch to activate the trailer brakes when the brake pedal is applied. If that red wire from the brake controller is connected to the cold side of the brake light switch on the Montana Van it will shut down the whole brake light system. I...

Since the trailer lights work fine on a different vehicle, I would start looking at the trailer connector on the 2001 Pontiac Montana. If there is any corrosion build up inside the connector, then that can cause a poor connection and cause the issue you are describing. If the vehicle side connector is cleaned out, you can go on to testing the converter itself. Yes, the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # 13344, will fit your 2000 Pontiac Montana with a short wheelbase. This hitch would actually be my recommendation for you. I usually prefer Curt trailer hitches because I know they like to be a little liberal with their powder coating and in this case, it has the highest weight capacities of any hitch for your van so it has plenty of built-in safety margin.
