Video Transcript for What to Know About the Roadmaster EZ Hook Safety Cables with Anchors

Today we're going to be taking at look at the Roadmaster EZ Hook Safety Cables with Anchors. The EZ Hook Safety Cables are going to be faster to connect than other cables. They include the feature of standard cables, with the addition of a unique attachment system. That's going to be the stainless steel ball at the end of the cable, that's going to latch into the slotted portion right here on the anchor plate. The cables are going to measure 64" long, they're going to have the capacity of 8,000 pounds per pair. This unit's going to be made right here in the USA, and it's designed to work with all the Roadmaster mounting brackets with quick disconnects.

The safety cables are aircraft tight galvanized steel, they're going to feature the forged steel hooks with these spring loaded latches to prevent accidental disconnecting. Nice strong durable design. The cables are also going to be vinyl coated, so that's going to prevent scratching and chipping of the tow bar surfaces. The anchors are designed to connect to the tow bar bracket that's located on your vehicle with the included mounting hardware. The anchors are going to be made from a steel construction, they're going to have a black powder coat finish so they're going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. The cables easily connect to the anchor brackets by inserting the ball ends through the diagonal slots, and then pulling down into the sides.

Very quick and easy installation of the cable into the anchor, as well as removal. If you have short cables connecting your base plates to your vehicle, you can attach them to the holes on the anchors. This hole right here with a quick link, quick links are sold separately. If you need some, you can find them right here at etrailer.com. Once you have that all that done though, you're going to be ready to connect your cables to your tow vehicle. We do recommend that when connecting this to your tow vehicles that you cross the cables below the hitch to create a cradle.

In the event of a separation, this will help in preventing the tow bar from striking the ground. That's going to do it for today's look at the Roadmaster EZ Hook Safety Cables with Anchors and the mounting hardware.

  • Proper Safety Cables to Use with the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate
I spoke with Roadmaster to help with this, and we have a solution. The EZ Hook Safety Cables, part # RM-655, are not compatible with the Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit for the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, part # RM-523200-5. The Base Plate you have does not have a spot for the anchors of the cables to mount to. Instead, use the Single Hook Cables, part # RM-645. I've linked to a video installation of these cables so you can see how they work.

  • Solution to Allow Connection of Safety Chain Clevises to Larger Chain Loops on 2022 Winnebago Forza
I may have a solution for you, but I checked with my contact over at Roadmaster and there are unfortunately not different sized clevis hooks on their safety cables like the # RM-655. However, you may be able to use some quick links like the Quick Links - 1/2" Diameter - Qty 2 # 37201345 to allow you to connect to the larger safety chain loops on your 2022 Winnebago Forza; you can then connect your safety chain clevises to the quick link directly.

The EZ4 base plate kit you have installed on your 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee part # RM-521440-4 has safety chain tabs that are on the portion of the kit that attach directly to the vehicle frame. Since this base plate kit did not come with a short safety chain cable like some of the kits do you would not need an additional length of cable.
