An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

  • Will Timbrens Help with Sway on My 2021 Ram 2500 with My 1997 Lance Legend 500 Cab Over Camper?
Hello Rustic Hart Ranch, The Timbren Severe Service kit # TDRTT3500E is a great choice for your 2021 Ram 2500 carrying that 1997 Lance Legend 500 camper. It’s specifically designed to handle heavy, constant loads like yours and really helps reduce that annoying sway you're feeling, especially around 30 mph. The rubber springs engage when your truck leans or squats, keeping everything more stable and level without affecting your unloaded ride too much. It’s also a super easy, no-maintenance...

  • Troubleshooting Fitment On My 2022 Ram 2500 Timbren SES Kit
Hey Justin, In terms of what is the right way to install them, the flat side should be towards the frame like you said. The instructions do not do the best at easily showing that. The flat side should be towards the frame. In terms of the gap for this kit specifically # TDRTT3500E there can be anywhere from 1/2" - 1-1/2" gap between the spring and axle when unloaded. If you used any of the rubber spacers in the kit you would just need to remove one to get to that 1/2 since yours are...

  • Recommended Suspension Upgrade for a 2022 Ram 2500 w/ Factory Air Ride
Hey Joseph. Since your 2022 Ram 2500 has the factory air suspension, I recommend adding the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System item # TDR2500D. These progressive rate springs install where your bump stops are currently mounted. The more weight you put on them the more they will engage and support your truck's suspension. What kind of 5th wheel trailer do you have?

  • How Big of a Gap Should the Timbren Severe Service Have? Which Ones are Right for My Truck?
Hello Hans, I am a little confused because you have a 2012 Ford F-250 in our fitguide, but the drtt3500d which is our part # T94VR is designed for 2010-2013 Ram 2500 and 2010-2025 Ram 3500; the drtt3500e our part # TDRTT3500E is designed for 2014-2025 Ram 2500. When these severe service Timbrens are installed you can have a gap of 1/2 to 1 1/2" but as you can see in the picture I attached of an install we did here there is 0 gap. If your truck really is a 2012 Ford F-250 then you will...

The issue you are having with the truck rocking back and forth due to the heavy load in the rear is referred to as porpoising and a common problem when towing or hauling. I have a few different options to help with this. If you are looking for a rugged sort of set and forget option then I recommend the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # TDRTT3500E. If you are looking for an option that you can adjust for the best mix of support and comfort then I recommend the Air Lift LoadLifter...

Hey John, thanks for getting in touch. The brackets that come with the Timbren Suspension Enhancement Kit # TDRTT3500E are custom fitted for the 2020 Ram 2500, and there is no shorter bracket we can offer for this kit. The # TDRTT3500E kit is a severe service kit. It is intended for vehicles that have a constant heavy load in the bed like a slide in camper or salt spreader. They will do great when under a load, but they are going to be very rough when unloaded. They are really not designed...

  • Comparing Timbren and SumoSprings Suspension Enhancement For 2022 Ram 2500
The SumoSprings are definitely the best choice for your 2022 Ram 2500. The Timbren will give you a rough ride when unloaded while SumoSprings have a minimal impact on unloaded ride quality. Also, the # TDRTT3500E is a severe service kit. The only reason to add this would be if you're using a slide-in camper or salt spreader. The correct SumoSprings kit will depend on your application. I would choose the option with the lowest capacity that fits your needs. We have the following available: -SumoSprings...

I would be happy to help you setup your 2022 Ram 2500 4WD with some helper springs. I recommend the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs item # SS27GR. These springs have a 5,000 lbs capacity when they are compressed at 50%. The best part about them is that they are a two piece system and the two pieces stay disconnected when the truck is unloaded. This allows the suspension to travel much more and provide a smoother ride. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System - Rear Axle item #...

Though I do prefer air bags, if they won't fit, then they won't fit. • Which Timbren SES Do I Need for a 2017 Ram 2500
The difference between the Timbren # TDR2500D and the # TDRTT3500E is that the TDRTT3500E are designed for commercial service trucks which will have a more beefy suspension system already and a slightly different frame. The TDR2500D is designed for the passenger vehicles like your 2017 Ram 2500, so this would be the Timbren SES you're looking for. With the Timbren option having 8,000 pounds of load leveling capacity, they will of course be the more heavy duty option. When it comes to carrying a truck bed camper, I always go with Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems over the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs similar to the # SSR-312-54 . With that being said, I think the better solution for your 2015 Ram 2500 are the Timbren # TDRTT3500E, since they are specifically designed for trucks carrying truck bed campers.
