An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

  • Do Timbren SES for 2020 Ram 1500 Void Vehicle Warranty
In a word, no, the warranty of your 2020 Ram 1500 will not be voided with the use of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDRTT1500 or # TDR1500DQ. You are protected by what is called the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This act says if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever you have added to your vehicle or its installation actually caused the problem in question. • Suspension Enhancement for 2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman 2WD Towing Fifth Wheel
We have suspension enhancement that does fit your 2019 Ram 1500 2WD tradesman like the Timbren # TDRTT1500 but none of the air bag kits fit your truck due to the 2WD aspect. The Timbren kits are really great options though as they give you the same support but have an easier install and don't require maintaining air pressure.

  • Best Suspension Enhancement for 2019 Ram 1500 Classic To Help With Sag When Towing
Since you are so close to the max towing and tongue weight capacity with your 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, by far the best option to help with sag when you are towing is an air bag system, the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57365. This will allow you to adjust the psi to your needs to give your Ram's suspension the exact amount of support it needs while riding much more comfortably than the stiff jounce springs like the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement # TDRTT1500. • Best Replacement Bump Stop for a Sagging Rear End on a 2019 Ram 1500
Hey Garry. To address the sagging in your 2019 Ram 1500's rear end, I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs item # SSR-307-47. These replace your factory bump stops and have a 1,500 lbs capacity. These are quite a bit better than the Timbren item # TDRTT1500, you were looking at. They have a progressive load control that only engages when weight is put on them. When you're not towing your trailer or carrying a heavy load in your truck bed you won't notice the SumoSprings...

  • How to Choose the Correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement for a 2019 Ram 1500
If you have a 2019 Ram 1500 that is the standard pick-up truck, the correct Timbren system is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DQ, which were designed for standard trucks. The difference between these and the Timbren System # TDRTT1500 is that the latter is made for service trucks, like a tow truck. The reason for this is the design of the springs; if you take a look at the accompanying photo a customer sent in, you can see they are double convoluted, which means...

  • Comparing Timbrens TDRTT1500 and TDR1500DQ for a 2014 Ram 1500
The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2014 Ram 1500 is part # TDR1500DQ and they will go a great job of getting rid of squat. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDRTT1500 is designed for service duty applications like those with in-bed campers. These service duty models has a different design which is more geared towards a constant load. I wouldn't pay much notice to the weight capacity but the price difference has more to do with popularity.

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement that you need for the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDRTT1500. The Timbrens are great at combating rear sag in the truck while towing because they provide the extra support that the suspension needs to handle a heavier load. The main difference between the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement # TDRTT1500 and the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-307-47 is the weight capacity. The Timbrens have a 7,000-pound weight capacity compared to the SumoSprings' 1,500-pound weight capacity. • Suspension Enhancement for 2019 Ram 1500 Classic for Use with Weight Distribution
Since you are wanting more support to improve ride quality I actually would not recommend an air bag kit as they are notoriously pretty harsh when inflated. They provide great support but when in use the support is not as soft as what "air bag" might imply. So instead the best solution is a SumoSprings # SSR-307-40 which will give you a softer support.

The difference is the weight capacity of each. They both fit the 2013 Ram 1500 like what you have, but the part # TDRTT1500 has a 7k lb capacity and the # TDR1500DQ has a capacity of 8,600 lbs. For what you are doing the lighter capacity will be the way to go. It will give you the support you need but won't be nearly as harsh as the 8.6k kit.

So there's a good chance your truck has the capacity with the Timbrens # TDRTT1500 but it's something you'd have to verify by determining your payload capacity. You could give your VIN to a GM dealer and they'd be able to tell pretty easily.

They are designed for trucks with service bodies only. The # TDR1500DQ is rated for 8,600 lbs and is a fit for regular truck beds as long as the truck doesn't have a regular cab, so this would be a much better option for your crew cab and non-service bed application so that is my recommendation.

I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDRTT1500 if you don't foresee heavier towing jobs in your future than the 4,500lb tank. The reason being, Timbrens will definitely stiffen your ride when towing which is exactly what they are designed to do with these providing up to 7,000lbs of capacity.
