Hey, everyone. Today we have a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder and we're going to do a test fit of a Thule square bar crossbar roof rack system. Now, this roof rack system mounts to the raised side rails on your Pathfinder. It's going to allow you to get any of your favorite accessories, whether that's a bike rack, kayak carrier or even a cargo box, on your roof, so you can get those accessories on top without taking up any more space inside your vehicle. Now, you have two different components making up this roof rack system. Up top, we're going to have our 53 inch square bar crossbars. With the square bar, you bare going to have a bit more wind noise and drag when compared to a more aerodynamic bar, like Thule has in their wing bar.Sometimes having this square bar up there, is just going to give you a more rugged look to your vehicle which is sometimes what people prefer.
On the bottom we're going to have our Evo raised rail feet for raised side rails. What they're going to do is clamp onto the raised side rails like that and just tighten down. Make sure that your crossbars are secure onto your raised side rails. You can see, we have these nice rubber padding all the way around it. That's going to help prevent any time of scratches or abrasions occurring on your raised side rails. Like I said, you will experience a bit more wind noise and drag with a square bar but you take away some of that by purchasing a Thule air screen, which are sold separately here at Etrailer. It goes on the front of our crossbar and just deflects the wind up and over our roof rack system.
I'm going to give you guys a few measurements just to give you an idea of the space this might take up on your roof rack. First, we're going to go from the top of the roof to the bottom of or square bar, that's going to be 2-7/8".That's plenty of space to get any clamp on accessories or strap around accessories on your crossbars, without really risking damaging the top of your roof. If we go from the top of our roof to the top of our crossbar, it's going to be 3-3/4".You want to keep that in mind because that's how much space you've added to the top of your roof, which is important for any low clearance situations. I also do want to point out, this on does not, but if your Pathfinder does have a sunroof, it will be able to be operational. There's plenty of space right here but you want to make sure that it is closed when you're installing any roof rack accessories. The weight limit for this roof rack system is going to be 220 pounds, which is a step up compared to most roof rack systems.
But you want to be sure to double check with your Pathfinders owner's manual to make sure your roof can handle that weight. Now that we've gone over some of those features. Let's show you how to get it installed. Now, we have our front crossbar in place. The second one is going to assemble the exact same way and go on your roof the exact same way. It's going to be pretty easy to install and assemble. We have it partially assembled right here.
We'll go to the other side. We have our full kit. Take off the end cap. All we're are going to do is take our raised rail feet and take that slot right there and slide it in to the channel.Once you do that, it's going to be loose, so we're going to put our end cap back on and now we can throw it on our roof. We can sit it on our raised side rails. Doesn't necessarily matter where you put it to start, just get it in place. We'll grab a tape measure and make our and make our crossbar measurements. Before we tighten anything down, we're going to measure our crossbar spread. We're going to make sure we get the same on both sides, so that our crossbars are parallel. That's just going to make sure that our accessories stay secure. We're going to measure from the front of our back crossbar to the front of our front crossbar. There's no set measurement. Just got to make sure it's over 24". Sometimes I'll base it off of whatever accessory I might be using that day. Right now, we're just going to go with 26, it looks like. Measure on the other side, make sure we get it correct on both sides. While you're over here, go ahead and measure your crossbar overhang, which is going to how much of your crossbar is hanging on the outside of your feet. You want to make sure that's also even on both sides. It's even, so now we can begin tightening down.We have our tightening bolt right here. What you want to do first, is push on the leg and then just get the slack out because it could be annoying to just get the tool up there and have to get spinning it when it's just as easy to do it with your fingers.Once you get it pretty tight with your fingers, we're going to grab our tool. Before I tighten it down all the way, I want to point out that right now our crossbar can move freely in the feet but once we tighten that down, it's going to lock the crossbar in place. We'll grab our tool, began tightening it down. The tool is actually going to tell you when it's tight enough. We're just going to keep going until we hear the audible clicks. Once you hear that, you're going to know it's tightened down to the correct setting and now you see that I cannot move the crossbar at all. Just go repeat this process for the other side.Once you have everything tightened down, put on your end caps. Now, we're just going to give our roof rack a quick shake, just to make sure that everything is tight. See, it's moving the whole vehicle. Everything is secure. Now, you're ready to load up your favorite Thule accessories and then hit the road. With all that being said, that's going to do it for our test fit of the Thule square bar crossbar roof rack system on our 2018 Nissan Pathfinder.

SquareBar Evo crossbars attach to Thule feet to create a durable, reliable roof rack for your vehicle. Bars are constructed of galvanized steel with a polymer coating that provides grip for your cargo. Accommodate accessories that clamp around bars.Standard crossbars, very strong and ver satile.
I've had the roof rack for a year now and we only use it sporadically in the winter to put the ski box ontop of the car but it works great. Very easy to install and remove and very sturdy. Previously I had the kind that bolted into the roof of my SUV and had a terrible experience with that (we lost the rack and kayaks on the freeway and it tore holes in my roof). The clamp style is the only kind we'll get from now on because they are much sturdier and no risk of losing them. Definitely recommend them.
I'm using these Thule Evo Fixpoint Feet #710701 in conjunction with the FitKit #87003 to mount my DropRack XL to the rooftop of my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Eventually I'll get a Thule Rooftop Cargo Box to transport our RV camping supplies for which we don't have enough room in the Jeep or our Aliner RV camper. For now, I'm also using the setup to transport 4' x 8' plywood sheets for a DIY home project. This is the perfect solution for a multi-use application that'll enable us to accomplish more projects around the house as well as on the road.
Install was pretty straight forward. I did have to drill holes on the roof gutters for the fixed point bolts (2024 Mazda 3 5dr). Shipping was delayed by a month but it was not due to etrailers fault.
Got exactly what I needed! Perfect fit on the 2024 Q7.
I feel that the service I've received from e-trailer was superb. They made excellent suggestions and I'm looking forward to getting the new rack installed ... again, with their video help!!
These bars are great and work fine. However the connection slots are not long enough to allow the 60” bars to work on our grand Cherokee. The 60” bars would give more clearance for our Thule Hullevators when they are in the lowered position. I had to develop a removable pad system to protect them from hitting the side of the car.
About a year ago we purchased two Thule Hullavator Pro kayak racks along with a Thule SquareBar Roof Rack for mounting. The combination worked out very well and we headed from Colorado Springs to Duvall Washington outside of Seattle with three stops along the way to kayak. The trip went smoothly and we appreciated the Hullavator ease lifting the boats. We have two more trips planned in the near future. We did mount the boats with cockpits down to avoid filling with water when traveling without a problem.
Well packaged, arrived in good condition. Works as expected. Would be great to have additional fitment information available. The underside channels of the 53” bars were just barely long enough to fit Leer cap track system spaced 40” apart using the rapid podium feet (phew). Thought from the measurements there would be some room to spare but didn’t account for the angle of the podium feet.
Classic square bar, but modern integration with the podium feet. Exactly what I was looking for.
So far so good! The ease of installation was incredible. Pop the fit kit together, put it on the bar and install. Everything is straight forward with the directions. Its even easier if you find a video of the installation. The rack definitely has a little bit of a whistle to it but its kinda expected when you disrupt the airflow. I'm going to pick up my new kayak tomorrow and couldn't be happier! Not the best photo but its all i got at the moment lol.
Worked great on my 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan's naked roof. Carried fully loaded car topper over 8,000 miles without needing any adjustments. Easy to install. Created a significant amount of whistling/howling when driving without a topper, so I wrapped a bungee cord around the front bar and secured it to the Thule feet. Voila. No more noise.
Product arrived quickly. Easy to install. Works as expected.
Easy to install and hold crossbars very securely.
Crossbars arrived without end caps but replacements were shipped out promptly. Great customer service
This review is about the cross bars, the towers, clamps and pads made by Thule from the etrailer site. The instructions were straightforward, and the parts were clearly identified and labelled. Installation was easy, primarily because of the availability of instructional videos etrailer provided on line. Seeing it done from start to finish made the installation quite easy and straightforward. Looking forward to using my new roof system to transport our kayak this summer! Am very satisfied.
I would have appreciated being informed that the Thule Wingbars were not in stock!
Easy to install, great customer service.
The bars are nice but Thule pointedly does not include under bar cover strips with this style of bars. They include these strips with the other three styles of bars they sell. Including these strips would cut the wind noise these bars produce substantially. I overcame this omission by re-using an old 5/8 inch ID (7/8 inch OD) garden hose that I cut up and slid inside the bars from the ends.
Perfect for our 1990 Montero!
I bought this rack to transport my recreational kayaks and it works great! With the addition of a Llama "v" rack I'm all set to transport my 21'5" tandem. Good fun. The Thule is the base and I couldn't be happier with it!
Great instructions on etrailer made installing this roof rack a breeze. Looks and works great on my Nissan Frontier. The wind noise is not as bad as I expected, but still a little whistling at certain speeds.
The crossbars were delivered but one end of the box was ripped open during transit. The end caps on the crossbars were missing. I called customer service and the are sending me new end caps free of charge. Good cUstomer service.
Easy and quick to install, very durable too. 10/10!
Everything was Great
