Video Transcript for Review of Erickson Ratchet Straps - Trailer - Truck Bed - EM51324

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Erickson Ratchet Tie-Down Straps. These are going to have a nice design to help you get any kind of cargo or maybe a small vehicle or something like that secured in your trailer, in a truck bed, or any anywhere else that you needed to be strapped down. It does have an easy ratcheting design, so it helps you get it nice and tight and do that pretty quickly. It comes with the two hooks on either end. They are turned so they're going to be a little easier to attach, and they also have a safety clip on the inside to ensure that they're not going to come off. So it makes it easier to get those in place without having to kind of put any tension on there.

They're going to hold their place and allow you to get everything where it needs to be. Those are spring loaded little safety latches, it's going to be the same on both of them. This design also helps to keep the strap flat. So a lot of times, if the hook is turned the other way, you have a little twist in the strap so this helps to hold it down where it needs to be. It does not come put together, you do have a length of strap with the hook on the end and then the ratchet and the strap so you kind of have to put that one end through the ratchet mechanism. It's pretty simple to do, you just find the end and thread it through there about the length that you need and then click it the rest of the length.

You don't have a very large drum as far as ratcheting that down so you'll want to get it pretty close to where you need it to be before you start ratcheting. If you need to take up or release the slack here, just open that up by pulling up on this handle in the middle, that kind of second handle, and opening it all the way out like I have it here, and then he should be able to pull the slack. And then just pull that little handle again, bring it back down, and you can ratchet it down again. As far as the specs with this, this has a safe working load limit of 1,330 pounds or a max break load or break strength or max load strength of 4,000 pounds. That's going to be the absolute limit of what this can handle so you always want to go off of that safe working load limit, and keep in mind that you don't want any of your cargo to be more than that. It's also a good idea to use straps in tandem so you want to get another one of these two strap down any cargo.

That helps to make sure that you have everything strapped down properly and that you're going to have a more secure system. The overall length of our strap is 15 feet long and the strap is an inch and a half wide, has reinforced webbing here to make sure that there's no fraying or tearing at those ends. And it should be a pretty nice heavy duty ratchet strap for securing that cargo. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right ratchet strap for you. We do have a lot of options available here at etrailer.com so check them out. Thanks for watching..

Ask the Experts about this Erickson Ratchet Straps

  • Ratchet Strap with Keepers Recommendation
Keepers are basically metal prongs that are in the opening of the hook on the ends of the straps that act as a mechanism that helps secure the strap to the surface that they attach to. A lot of times when you are trying to use ratchet straps it is difficult to keep the hook of the strap from popping out of place when ratcheting. The keepers help prevent that by putting a little tension in the hook so it stays in place. See the picture to the right for more clarification. We can offer...

  • Does the Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Mounted Load Extender, # DTA944 Come With Straps
The Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Mounted Load Extender, # DTA944, does not comes with the straps you see in the pictures. It does come with a little red flag, though. If you look at some of the pictures of just the extender, you will see two loops, one on each end, of the T part of the extender. You could run safety cables, rope, or hooks through these to help secure the cargo. The other straps are attached in the adjustments holes for the cross bar. You could also wrap a strap around each...

  • Does the Exhaust Need to be Lowered to Install a Curt Hitchon a 2012 Subaru Impreza
The exhaust only needs to come down a little bit to install this # C11120 on your 2012 Subaru Impreza. An easy way to support the exhaust once you remove the fifth exhaust hanger would be to use a tie-down like our Snap-Loc Tie Down part # EM51324 to secure the exhaust to a part of the vehicle before you lower it so that the strap will hold the weight of the exhaust while it is off the hangers. You can adjust the cam buckle to raise or lower the exhaust once it is supporting the weight...
