Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.
These retractable ratchet straps are an upgrade over standard ratchet straps. To use the straps, begin by pushing the button on the ratchet and pulling out as much strap webbing as needed. Secure the hook to an anchor point, and then ratchet the remaining slack to make sure your gear is held down tight. Because these straps are retractable, there will already be tension on the strap when you begin to ratchet, meaning that you'll spend less time tightening the straps down. When it's time to unload, push the button on the ratchet to release the strap. Then unhook the strap and push the button again to automatically retract the strap back into the housing. This feature also keeps loose ends neatly wound up so they aren't flapping in the wind or getting dirty during your haul.

Randy: Hey, guys, Randy here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at a Four-Pack of Ratchet Straps from Erickson. These are going to be the retractable-style straps, which means we're not going to have a big tag end hanging out. Now, I like the way these ratchet straps work. They are going to be a little heavier than what we're used to with just standard ratchet straps. There's a lot of benefits to them. We'll start with the push button release.
You can see the red button located right here. That's going to bring this tab up to where it clears over that catch. You see that's in our locked position right there, so that catch keeps us from going any further. Push our release and then just push straight down. You see that's going to click apart, giving us that slack we need to disconnect. Now, when we want to reconnect it after the release, we'll just press down on our red button.
You see how that's going to take in that slack, move it up into its engaged position and then just begin to ratchet it. The ratchet itself is nice and wide. It has smooth edges all the way around, not going to have to worry about catching our fingers on anything sharp, and you'll have enough room to get a couple of fingers on there. Should allow you to get good torque applied. You see that's our locked position.
That's going to keep our handle from going back and releasing or forward and trying to tighten any.Overall, the housing, you can see all metal components here fully coated with the clear zinc. See not really any flex or any give to it like we see out of some of the lighter duty straps. Rubber coated handle there and push button release. Then our clock spring built in here for the retractability is going to be fully encased there in that plastic housing. The strap material itself feels very, very similar to a seatbelt.
You see it's kind of got that fine weave to it, good thickness to it, feels just in line with those medium duty straps, not super thin but also not thick and heavy. Each of the hooks are going to have a rubber coating on them. They are steel hooks. We're going to get excellent strength out of those. That rubber is going to help protect any painted surfaces or more delicate surfaces from scratching. Now, overall the straps' going to be 1" wide. We're going to have 10' in total length. It's also going to offer us a safe working load limit of 400 pounds, so you don't want to exceed that per strap. Another good rule of thumb, always use straps in pairs. That's what I like about it coming as a four-pack. We're going to have plenty of straps. We can get items secured down. Using two straps, it's going to offer you some redundancy if in case you're going to have a failure on one side, wouldn't have to worry about it.Something else I like about this strap kit. It is going to come with a carrying case. You can see we can get all four of our ratchets down and in there, get them clipped off. Now, you can see this is kind of a plastic lining inside. The case itself feels pretty durable, plastic opening on, or a see-through cover there so you can see in, see what's going on. Overall the zipper feels pretty reasonable. It certainly isn't any kind of ballistic nylon military grade something or other, but it'll do a good job of keeping your straps in there and handy. If you don't care about them being separated like that, you could pull that liner out, adds a few tools or something like that if you wanted to.To get our strap installed, we just want to press down that red release button we had talked about earlier. We want to ensure the strap, the position is not in the locked position but in the release position that we saw earlier. Pull down that button just a little bit. We can hook it onto our attachment point. Notice that while I hold that button down, it'll reel in and out. If I let go of the button while it's still unlocked, then it just clicks to length and it'll hold that position. So it'll be up to you in how you want to use it. When we make our connection on that other side, just press that red button. That's going to take out most of the slack that we've got. Lift it into the ready to use position and continue to tighten it down. Now, with these ratchet straps, there's a little bit of a weight here, a little bit heavier than what we get out of most. So you definitely want to support it initially as you use it, but then just let it go once you get some tension to make sure you get out all that slack. All right. Once we have that nice and secure, we got our other one over there. We'll throw a couple on the back. We don't have any tag ends to deal with or get tied up, so we're ready to hit the road.

Recently received these and did a brief test. The ratchet mechanism and spring-loaded rewind works as advertised. I'm looking forward to never having sticking release mechanisms and twisted strips. 939156

Of the 8 straps I purchased only one broke in the last 12 months. I use these 3-4 days a week. The retraction spring is starting to get week but still does a good enough job. Overall very satisfied with these straps! 609536

Easiest tie down straps I've ever used. 601065
As always, the order arrived on time, and packaged well. Although, the handy carrying case for the straps was damaged, “by the shipper I believe”, in transit, as the box was crushed in one corner. But as always, I am absolutely satisfied with etrailer, and will always be my first source for any track, or trailer needs. 599569
I love my Erickson Re-Tractable ratchet straps I got. They are easy to use & I like that there is no extra strap to have to tie off. It takes me about half the time it used to,to strap things to my trailer. 570309
