Question:
When you say to the exhaust, how far does it need to be moved? Ill be doing the installation on a garage floor, and wonder if it would be easier to just remove the muffler car is only a few months old. If not, does the exhaust flex acceptably at the sping loaded joint near the down pipe once the 5th hanger is removed there are only 4 near the muffler?

The exhaust only needs to come down a little bit to install this # C11120 on your 2012 Subaru Impreza. An easy way to support the exhaust once you remove the fifth exhaust hanger would be to use a tie-down like our Snap-Loc Tie Down part # EM51324 to secure the exhaust to a part of the vehicle before you lower it so that the strap will hold the weight of the exhaust while it is off the hangers. You can adjust the cam buckle to raise or lower the exhaust once it is supporting the weight of it.
I would not recommend removing the exhaust, just removing the hangers and lowering it is all that you would need to do to install the hitch. Check out the installation instructions I attached for this product also.
