Video Transcript for Review of Epicord RV Wiring - Power Inlet - 277-000138

Today, we're going to take a look at the Epicord 30 amp twist lock power inlet. Now this part will install on your vehicle or RV. It allows you to connect a standard 30 amp three-pronged twist plug to supply 30 amps, 125 volts to the vehicle. It is a strong, durable construction. It Uses corrosion resistant materials and UV stabilized glass filled polyester. You can see it's an all black color.Again, it's designed for your standard three prong Nema L5-30R twist lock plug.

The plug would just go on there and you can see it as a threaded ring around here. So when you plug it in and twist it, then you have a ring on there that you can tighten down for a secure connection. Again, it's 30 amps, 125 volts does meet the CETL and ETLUS listing. Now to install. It does require hard wiring. A 30 amp connection will require using at least 10 gauge or 8 gauge wiring.

And what you can do. This back will come off if you just twist it those two tabs. It will release it. And then that's where you make your wiring. So what you want to do is take this at the very back.

You unscrew this and it's a strain relief. So you can run your wiring, your gauge wire through here, bring it all the way through there to make your connections. Of course, run it through here, of course, and then through here. And then just slide this up and that'll tighten down to hold the wiring to keep from any pull being put on it to cause it to disconnect. And then once you make your connections on here, then just put your cover over it, twist it into place and it's secure.

And then again, you'll have this nice dust cover. The lid will open all the way. It has a nice foam seal up here so that when you do close it, you can hear it snap into place. And it'll give you a secure closure. It keeps any elements from getting into it.Now, the installation hardware to install this. You can see there's four holes. It's not included. You would have to supply that. And to install this flush, you do need to. It requires 2 7/8" diameter hole drill to install this. But that should do it for the review on the Epicord 30 amp twist lock power..

The lid flew off going down the road. I read alot of the reviews before I bought it thinking I was going to get a good quality product but a month after it was installed going down the highway the lid to it came off maybe I just got a bad one

by:

The original connector was not installed properly by the manufacturer. The wires were pushed into the connector, but the screws were not tightened. The hot lead became very “HOT” and melted the pins out of the plastic. I replaced the connector with this new one. It fit in the same place as the original. I tightened the screws and have had no problems since.

I have not had any problems with this or any products I have purchased from etrailer.com!!!

Worked like a charm! I purchased this to put a plug on my enclosed trailer that I was wiring for electric (toy hauler set up). A couple of things to keep in mind for those of you looking to do the same. The sheet metal on our enclosed trailers is much to thin to mount this plug to without some back up support. The plug itself is built sturdy enough, but our sheet metal is too thin and weak. I removed the plywood backing and welded up a steel frame with some heavy gauge sheet metal in the middle and bolted the whole support structure to the trailer studs. Then put the plywood back on and cut the hole in the side of the trailer with a hole saw bit and went through the sheet metal of the trailer, my added support sheet metal, and the plywood of the interior. Worked great. Then used self taping screws to hold the plug to the support sheet metal. That bad girl is not moving anytime soon. A couple words of caution, I would plan to use some silicone around the plug after installation. If you are like me and are removing the plug several times while wiring/cutting, you may damage the small gasket that is provided. Just to be safe a quick bead of silicone around the housing and now we covered all of the basis. One more quick tip. Don't be an idiot like me...perhaps it was all of the welding fumes from making my support bracket, or the half dozen beers I had drank during this part of the project, but for some reason I thought it would be a great idea to remove the inner part of the plug from the black housing to wire it together. DO NOT DO THIS. Cost me about 3 min of scratching my head trying to get the bad girl back together. Long story, but the message is simple, there is no need to remove any screws from this plug to install your wires. There are little windows in the back of the plug that allow you to very easily slide your screw driver into and tighten down on your wire. Also, the back of the plug is color coded to help in knowing which wires need to go to which turn lock pins.

Sorry for the long review. To recap, this product was perfect and arrived 3 days after I hit the "purchase" button. Couldn't be more happy. Thanks, etrailer!

This is the second item I have purchased from etrailer.com and I can say, that both of my experiences have been Five Star. The items were exactly as they described (I must also add that etrailer gives clear and detailed information which makes it easier to make a decision with confidence). Also they excel in prompt delivery and communications as to when to expect receipt of the item (in the case of both items I ordered, they both were delivered as indicated by etrailer.

These are certainly qualities which are easy to refer to in making a review, however, there is one more which I am really impressed with and one which allows me to understand why they garner an excellent review from me. When I opened my box, on the inside flap of the carton, is a statement from etrailer.com. The statement says it all - "The bottom of this box should not be the end of our relationship. If we can help, let us know", and then they list a phone number and email address. This underscores their commitment to a great business relationship which results in a satisfied repeat customer. I will continue this relationship.

etrailer made it very easy to order and got my product in the time frame I was told. Haven’t installed the power inlet yet but I’m very confident it will work.

by:

Very well made worker well with no prob lems

by:

Not quite the quality materials of the high priced outlets, but perfectly functional for my van conversion project.

by:

Good product, functions fine door/cover still latching fine and tight.
Do not follow directions regarding hole size to drill. Recommended size is way bigger than it needs to be.

Thank you for your feedback. The outer diameter of the socket that mounts in the RV all is 2 78 inches. If you wanted to be precise, you could use a 2 78 hole saw and grind down the edges for a snug fit however I would make sure that there is a small gap for the movement of the trailer or RV wall when driving.

by:

This 30 Amp inlet does its job. The wiring directions were clear once we got over hole sawing through our new van.

A perfect replacement for my old travel trailer. Great quality and easy to install, but make sure you have the right extension cord that fits with this or else you will be disappointed !

by:

Great prices, good products

by:

Seems to be a sturdy product for a good price. The hinge and contacts look strong. Requires a 2-1/2-inch hole saw for installation (if my memory serves me). Could use a waterproofing gasket, but some butyl tape will fix that. Good product!

by:

Part received as promised and was the same as noted on the website. Did note during the installation that base was a fraction smaller than the original part but no problem. Suggest adding mounting screws and gasket as a kit!

by:

Nice product. I bought a pair, one black, one white. While the product is nice, it's etrailer that makes the difference

Finding a piece-part like this can be a challenge. I'm an engineer and know how to do it and it's hard to plow through mfg catalogs specifying a part number among dozens of options. Even then it's hard to buy just one. OEMs and distributed want to quote a hundred or a thousand.

etrailer has done all that work, has it in stock, with helpful people and complete info in easy to understand language.

Good part, good price, in stock and delivered on time.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for in my cargo trailer conversion project. Worked like a charm

by:

Product is exactly as advertised, simple installation. Had to use 3" hole saw as finding the requested 2 7/8" seems impossible. 3" works just fine. No issues to date.

by:

Functional RV plug
Far superior than
the one [online retailer] carries primarily due to the seal created where the 3 wire cable passes into the plug assembly
Immediate delivery from etrailer, [online retailer] is 3-4 weeks out for there’s.

by:

I needed the face plate and insulation washer, and they were interchangable, so I bought the 30amp plug to use the cover on my 50amp. Perfect fit

by:

I received the Epicord 30A power inlet promptly despite Hurricane Matthew passing by 40 miles east of my house and disrupting life in general not to mention everyday deliveries. The product is as described and I'll install it as soon as I put my screened porch back together!

by:

This is exactly what we were looking for at a great price. Excellent shipping.
Thanx

  • What Size Hole Saw is Used to Install the Epicord 30 Amp Twist Lock Power Inlet
If you have a typical hole saw set, then you will want to use a 3" hole saw on the Epicord 30 Amp Twist Lock Power Inlet, # 277-000138. The outer diameter of the socket that mounts in the RV wall is 2-7/8 inches. If you wanted to be very precise, you could use a 2-7/8 inch hole saw and grind down the edges for a snug fit, but I would make sure there is a small gap for the movement of the trailer or RV wall when driving.
