rv power center

This RV power control center combines an AC/DC panel with a smart converter charger. Creating easy access to your electrical connections, this all-in-one breaker box distributes AC and DC loads to your RV and charges your batteries while connected to shore power. The integrated converter charger also uses the Charge Wizard to help extend battery life.

AC/DC Electrical Distribution

internal view

The panel supplies AC and DC distribution to your RV's electrical system. The AC section has space for 2 breakers rated for 120V at 30 amps. This lets you have up to 4 branch circuits when you use tandem breakers. The DC section has 6 branch fuse holders capable of using (1) 40 amp and (6) 30 amp fuses. However, you will need to purchase AC breakers and DC fuses separately to complete the installation.

inside cover

Once all of your connections are made, the breakers and fuses are easily accessible by opening the door on the front of the box. The door also includes a blank label to list all of the connections.

Multifunctional Converter Charger

The integrated converter charger changes AC shore power into DC power to charge your battery bank. It includes an output mode switch that lets you choose either lithium or lead acid batteries. No matter what type of battery is installed in your RV, you'll always have the most efficient charging profile. If your RV already has a stock converter charger, it will need to be removed to ensure this unit operates properly.

Charging Profile Designed for Lithium Batteries

In lithium mode, the unit uses a higher output voltage, which provides a fast, complete charge. It also extends battery life since it utilizes the appropriate charging profile. Additionally, this mode is compatible with your battery's internal Battery Management System (BMS), which helps manage the charge cycle by monitoring the battery state and balancing cell voltage.

Charge Wizard for Lead Acid Batteries

In lead acid mode, the Charge Wizard automatically switches voltages while your lead acid battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. This function is compatible with flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.

Charging Modes

  1. Boost: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. This is where most of the charging happens. It charges the battery up to 90% of the full capacity.
  2. Normal: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery begins to reach capacity, the normal state will kick in and reduce the voltage to safely complete the charge.
  3. Storage: Once the battery reaches full charge and remains unused for 30 hours, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: This mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended storage cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

Safety Features

internal view

The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the unit includes protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent, which can damage your equipment, as well as the converter. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit. The fan speed is proportional to the internal temperature of the converter, so when the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly.

As described, quick delivery. I checked the S1 switch upon delivery after problems others had encountered with the switch solder joints, mine had no defects. Installation was pretty straightforward. I will agree with other reviewers in that the included instructions are a little lacking. Worked as advertised, pleasantly surprised with how quiet the unit is.

by:

I had my son-in-law who is an electrician install the converter. The converter is working good and the battery charge was really good. I believe that the water pump pressure was the best I had in a long time which indicates how well the battery is charged.

The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think that a better manual could of come with the converter. When I connected the battery there was a green flashing light that I didn't know what it meant but after an internet search I found out what it meant.
E-trailer was great to deal with, fast service and answered my questions quickly,

The converter and charger is working very well and I like how I dont have to watch how well the battery is charged

Based on other reviews, I received this product about as expected. Shipping took a very long time, this took 9 days to arrive after notification of shipping. The product was not packed very well, it does not have any visible damage from shipping though, which was a concern considering how the box looked. There are no instructions with the product. As expected, the lithium/AGM switch has a damaged solder joint.
Over-all if there was another similar product from any other vendor available, I would have bought something else. At this time I'm not aware of anything else in stock, so this will do and I will make the needed repairs to make it work. It will be replacing the current control panel in our camper so we are able to charge LiFePO batteries.

There is obviously a manufacturing issue with the circuit board of the PD4135 converter charger. When I received the first one that I had ordered, I went to switch the converter to lithium battery operation, and noticed that the bottom pin of switch S1 was not soldered to the circuit board pad. E-trailer promptly sent me a replacement converter which I received today. The first thing I did was to check the solder on switch S1. The picture shows the switch in the condition received (exact same issue). I will be looking at a different solution for my converter/charger needs.

So far I think this unit is perfect for my cargo trailer conversion. It was simple to install and for the money you can hardly build something similar. I took off one star however since the S1 switch for Lithium battery charging was not properly soldered to the board (one leg had detached). I was able to fix it easily enough but not everyone is comfortable soldering surface mount components on a PCB.

by:

This is working well for us in our diy camper! We had to use [online] to figure out how to hook it up.

by:

When i went to a lifpo4 battery on my Aliner, I discovered I needed an updated controller in order to properly charge the battery. Based on reviews, I chose this Progressive Dynamics controller. It installed ok into the cabinet. (I had to add a small strip of wood to fill a gap as the front panel was slightly smaller than the old one.) After a year, no problems at all. So, a 5 star rating.

by:

All wired in and seems to be a great product. Installing was pretty simple if you have any clue about electrical. Make sure you look at the install directions on the product page. The ones with the unit aren’t real good. Would have given 5 stars, but this transaction with etrailer was the worst I’ve had. Typically receive orders in 2-3 days. It took 2 weeks to the day to get this one. It posted shipped the day I ordered. A week later 2 phone calls and an email it finally showed up in their local post office.

by:

Controller works fine, but the instructions accompanying the unit are sparse and in many areas unhelpful. It came loose in a box without any wrapping lending one to believe it may have been a return or just poorly packed from the factory. They switch from LA to Li appears in the literature to be MUCH larger than it actually is and is not in a convenient location.
All in all a good unit, but it's support needs to be improved for the first time installer.

Since I just finished installing this converter late today, I don't have any operational history on which to rate it, thus the Average rating. I do have a couple comments about the product itself.

1.I believe the PD4135K would be ideal for a small travel trailer or a van conversion with few powered features. In my case I have a fully loaded 2002 Roadtrek 190. The OEM supplied documentation listed an Elixer 4500 Converter, however that was substituted or later replaced with a Centurion 3000 Converter which was no longer keeping the RV battery charged. The Centurion unit had 9 usable fused 12VDC circuits while the PD4135K has 7 total and 6 usable for distribution. Compounding this issue was the fact that the Centurion unit had three fused circuits with two separate and different loads connected - a definite No-No for safety's sake. The solution was to install an Auxiliary Fuse Block and feed it from F2 on the PD4135K. The pig tailed leads on the PD4135K were a definite asset in this type of installation.

2. My installation required the use of all three dual 120VAC Breakers (6 circuits) which leaves very little room for wiring within that small compartment. While difficult, it can be done, though I suspect doing so pushes the NEC to the limit.

I'll make two suggestions for anyone contemplating such a project. First, consider carefully the number of circuits(both 120 VAC and 12VDC)you need to accommodate without doubling up. It may be worthwhile to purchase a higher amperage rated converter to get the needed circuits and additional room for wiring. Second, mark every wire with a unique number before disconnecting it and record that number along with the circuit's function and fuse rating. Wire markers are available at your local [online]. As well, white adhesive tape and a black marking pen works fine. Doing this may save you time and later frustration.

Works as advertised. Wired it up same as the original converter and its been working great.
Everything I have bought from etrailer has come quickly and worked as advertised. Very satisfied.

by:

Used this to replace WFCO WF-8735 for use with a lithium battery. The PD is a little smaller (a little over 3/8") than the WFCO so I needed to add extension brackets to the screw holes to securely mount it. I'm very happy with this purchase.

by:

It seems to be working well, though install was a little trickier than expected. I was using this as a substitute for the factory part and had to "customize" it to fit my existing circuit breakers. If I had it to do again, I'd order new breakers along with the power control center.

by:

So far so good! I build my own power center modeled after the ones in RV for our enclosed trailer. Its been working great. I bought fuses at the auto parts store, and bought circuit breakers at home depot no problem. I did contact progressive dynamics because it seems that there are places you can buy these cheap but the serial number is not recognized by progressive dynamics meaning you have no warranty and probably cant return it to those places. But since etrailer was not listed on progressive dynamics website as a retailer, I contacted them, gave them my serial number, and they confirmed that etrialer is a preferred dealer, and my serial number is legit....
I contacted progressive dynamics also during installation, and they were very helpful. I was concerned the the wire coming out of the unit that hooks up to your 12 v batteries was 12AWG. I though that seemed too light a gauge, and should be at least 10AWG maybe 8AWG. Progressive dynamics, technical guy said that they have a special high temp insulation on those wires and they can indeed handle 40 AMPS. He recommended (which looks odd installed) but I ran 8AWG from my battery, and spliced it to the 12AWG wire on progressive dynamics unit.
No Complaints so far, its been running great and charging the batteries. No regrets.

by:

Poor QA, bad mechanical design. 2 SMD components with bad solder joints or shifted by chassis mounting tab. Easy fix if you have the equipment and the know how. The mode switch was not soldered on one side, so the Lithium mode didn't work. It works OK after fixing it, but this should not happen if they had any final quality control. It was simpler for me to fix it rather than return it, with a high probability of having a repeat fail. This is not new, there are several reports about this issue. They brick it at final assembly when they insert the PCB in the chassis, and do not test it.

by:

The converter works just as expected, was not difficult to install, but I had to enlarge the cutout slightly to get it to fit, but you had warned me about that.

by:

Replacement for an old Magnetek 6415. Had to modify the hole it fit in a little bit. Slightly taller, slightly narrower. Works great with my AGM batteries. Don't know about operation with LiFePO4 batteries.

by:

Exactly what I needed. I switched to a lithium battery and needed the different charging profile. The installation was exactly what I expected and it is performing as expected.

by:

Fast shipping to Canada and an easy install. Videos from etrailer website were great. I am now running a 170ah lithium battery in my RV. Control Centre works well and very quiet. The lead battery/ lithium switch was a little hard to access and a little difficult to switch over to the lithium position. Glad I made the upgrade!

by:

I installed the power control AC/DC panel with converter in my son's 2000 travel trailer. Due to my own lack of experience I went slow and checked/rechecked many times so it took me a few hours but it has now been 3 months and it has performed flawlessly. It is great to have the A/C working and battery charging. I would have liked greater details for installation instructions but I'm sure they would be adequate for anyone with experience. For newbies, go slow and use your meter frequently.

by:

Thank you ertrailer for a web site that is easy to navigate and find the products that best fir my needs. I found that the inverter was well documented and easy to install in place of my old inverter. It is quiet and has an informative status screen. The distribution panel and charger was easy to install but I wish there was more documentation to go along with it and assist in understanding how it operates. I submitted a question regarding its operation to support and received a comprehensive reply. i am very pleased with the products and the etrailer support.

by:

Great product at a great price. Needed a new one for my travel trailer because I upgraded to lithium batteries. This was an easy drop in replacement.

by:

Ordering was straightforward, converter arrived promptly, charged lead-acid battery, but would not charge lithium battery. PD service sent a replacement no charge (with same problem). 2nd replacement works fine (no charge).

by:

Because the World Friends converter in our little Guy Mini Max was beginning to fail, I ordered a PD 4135; Quinn very helpfully took my order. Unfortunately, the new converter had no 12VDC output. Kailey promptly made arrangements for a warranty replacement. When I had trouble downloading the UPS return shipping label, Jamie guided the necessary process. I know problems sometimes occur with anything that is purchased, but etrailer has met and overcome the challenges. The new PD 4135 is working very well. Thank you, etrailer.

by:

This product was the perfect replacement for the OEM device that is now obsolete. It is a little involved to install but I found a YouTube that was perfect and everything has worked perfectly for the last year.

Yes. The Progressive Dynamics # PD4135K is designed to work with gel batteries, so that's not going to be an issue, but these units only distribute the power throughout your RV. Whether or not you're able to power your RV air conditioner will depend on the amount of watts available from your battery bank, but this panel and converter won't have any issues providing the power to your AC unit via either shore power or your battery bank.
