These pads are a perfect addition to our kayak and water-toy towing capabilities. They have a canvas like cover and fit the crossbars perfectly. The foam core is higher quality than the pool noodles we were going to use. E-Trailer offered them at the best price with many choices for shipping. We received them within a week of ordering and put them right to work.
Bought these to replace my Yakima 20” round bar pads. The padding in the Malone pad is not as dense (inferior padding) as the Yakima pad, so I installed the Yakima padding in the fabric sleeve of the Malone pad to make it work. Sleeves aren’t as robust as the Yakima sleeves, but hard to find anything that last these days.
I received the cross bar supports and am pleased with my purchase. Although I'm sure they will make the surfboard rental company happy, my primary reason for purchasing was to protect the crossbars on my new SUV. I use the crossbars on past vehicles for loading anything too large to fit inside (lumber, party tents, etc.) and found the crossbars got really scratched up and look bad, and were also quite slippery and allowed what ever it was to shift on turns. These pads should prevent that, oh and will protect what ever I'm carrying from damage from the bars as well. Would have given them 5 starts but have not had them long enough to test fully and understand how they will hold up to sun and rain.
These pads are for very small round bars. I had gotten them because some of the reviews said they would work for 1.5” round bars, but they won’t unless you only want 2/3 of your bar covered. As soon as you load a sup they would rotate and have to be fixed every time. I’ll just get some pipe insulation and have the wifey sew them up in some waterproof canvas.
Would be decent pads for smaller bars, but probably still not worth the price.
Seem well-made but they weren't wide enough for my Erickson ladder rack. Check the circumference of your crossbars before ordering. The width of these pads are 5.5 inches. Circumference of my bars was 8.5 inches.
They look like they are well made . I am using them on basic Yakima aero cross bars and they barely fit/work . Having to use extra velcro straps to hold them in place
Would not fit Yakima core bars, so not universal fit.

I received the pads in good condition. Delivery was a day earlier than promised. The pads were easy to install. I removed the knotted end elastics and clip to get them around the crossbars and re-knotted. Overall, very easy and am looking forward to using them. I am not a surfer or SUP person and will use the pads to put my ladders on. Previously, had a split pool noodle on crossbars with cable ties but that was not cool looking. These are black and much better. Feel the outer material will provide UV protection for padding
I’ve used them a lot for my kayak and they work pretty well. Unfortunately they were not made for oval Honda factory crossbars, so sometimes they flip upside down while I’m sliding the kayak on and the padded side ends up on the underside of the crossbar. If Malone had a design that fit the wide oval bars, they would be perfect!
These are great. I use them to hold my sit-on-top. I pretty much leave them on the roof all summer/fall and no signs of wear after a year. I tie the elastic ends together as an added protection after installing on the bars but I’ve never had the elastic clips slip - even unloaded at freeway speeds!
