Features to know about

Secure The Window With The Right Adhesive System

When you install a van window, the glass is bonded directly to the painted metal with urethane adhesive. That bead is what holds the window in place and keeps water out. Start by applying the included primer to the van wall to prepare the surface. Use a caulk gun with at least a 24-to-1 thrust ratio to lay a consistent urethane bead around the opening, then set the window in place. After the window is positioned, leave the tape securing it to the van for at least 24 hours to allow full cure. Safe drive-away time is about 6 hours, so the window's secured and sealed before you're back on the road.

Video Transcript for Review of Van Windows Direct Urethane Installation Kit - VW74ZR

Hi, everyone. Steve here with etrailer. Let's take a look at the urethane insulation kit for Van Windows Direct large windows. So folks, when you install a van window, the glass is going to be bonded directly to the painted metal with the urethane adhesive that you see before me. Now, that bead of this urethane is literally what's going to be holding and keeping that window in place, but also keeping water and moisture out as well. So what you'll do is you will apply the included primer here.

It does have an applicator, a little foam applicator there on it. You have, of course, the two tubes that will screw onto the top of the urethane tubes. Now what's not included that you're going to need is a caulk gun with at least a 24-to-1 thrust ratio. And that's going to be.. The ratio's very important because you want to be able to lay down a consistent urethane bead around the opening, and then be able to set that window in place.

So, "Steven, I don't know if I have a 24-to-1 thrust." Well, unfortunately, a lot of them don't have any kind of stickers on that tell you that if it's not brand new. But most likely if you check out your local automotive store, if you don't have one, that's where you're going to be able to find it versus, like, a hardware store where those are using a different kind of caulk. So just kind of keep that little tip in mind. But just like other caulk applicators, you can cut this exactly where you need it for the size of the bead that you lay down. And then after the window's positioned in place, you're going to have some tape securing it into place on the van, along with of course the urethane for about 24 hours of cure time to allow it to cure.

And then safe driveway time is about six hours. So that window's going to be secured and sealed before you're back on the road. So again, folks, this is the urethane installation kit for van windows, for large windows. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching.

I'm sorry about that Richard, we'll get that replaced!

Was what I needed for the glass.. HOWEVER, you best invest in a high pressure caulk gun, or have forearms like Popeye to use this. I even set it on a defroster vent for 30 mins before using it and I still have shaky hands days later from trying to get this out. So it must be good then!!!!

I used only 1 tube per window. 1 kit can do 2 large van windows

  • Van Windows Direct Window Came Out Of channel On Ford Transit. Is There An Adhesive Kit To Re Seal?
Hey Patricia, that's unfortunate, but luckily we have what you need to get it back sealed up correctly. You'll need the Urethane Installation Kit for Van Windows Direct Small Windows - 1 Tube Adhesive with Primer # VW84ZR. There is also a bigger kit for bigger windows with part # VW74ZR, but I think you'll be fine with the single tube kit. If you google search "Urethane van window installation video", you'll find their video on how to properly do a full installation using these kits....
