Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the Replacement Vortex Strip for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars

Hi, everyone. It's Lily Angeline here at etrailer and today we're are looking at the replacement Vortex Strip for your Rhino Rack Vortex Aero crossbar here at etrailer. When you do get some Rhino Rack Vortex Aero crossbars, they come pre-installed with these strips and you may need to replace them for some different reasons, sometimes you might cut off a little bit too much when you're fitting your accessories in there or they may get damaged from extreme weather conditions, whether it be a lot of sun or a lot of cold, either way it's really easy to replace them, and let's take a look at them. These are made for the Vortex Aero crossbars and they have a unique design here at the top. Now your Aero Crossbars are designed to reduce wind drag and wind noise and these strips just add to that design. You can see how you have grooves as well as how they are shaped to help with that drag and noise.

Now, these are very important, not only to reduce that wind noise and drag when they are on your vehicle but also to protect your crossbars. As I lift this up you can see how the inside is now open to the elements. Water can get in through and grime can get in. You really don't want those inside your crossbars. So if you do find gaps on your strips, please replace them or fill them up as quick as you can.

The Vortex strips are 15 and three quarter inches long. Now that's gonna be a useful measurement for you because these crossbars come with those separate strips. So here we have the 49 inch long crossbar and what that actually means is your crossbar's space or where t-tracks are, are 49 and 5/8th inches long. So we have one, two, three and a small piece of a fourth of these strips on there. So you're gonna have to cut and mix and match according to your crossbar spread.

Another purpose for these strips are they do give a little bit of a rise to your crossbar, that way if you do have your kayak, your canoe, your surf board straight on the bars, and you're not using a kayak here, you don't have to worry too much about it having contact with the crossbar. You have a little bit of cushion just to prevent those extra scuffs and scratches during transport. Now I have here the old strip and you can see how it maintains its shape, it's not as flexible as it was before and it's slightly brittle, it's still gonna be effective and it still works, but compare it to the flexibility of this other strip, you can see why I wanted to change it. So for install, what you need to do is just take off the end cap first, so that you have it in an open space, so use your key, unlock that end cap and pop it off. You then have two options for installing your replacement strip.

The first one is you can feed it through the t-tracks here at the bottom or the second one which I like to do a lot more is just place it right where you want it to go and pop it in. One thing to make sure is that it's lined up with the other strip on the bar and that you push it in to make sure there are no gaps between the two strips. Once you have all your missing or damaged Vortex strips replaced, you can then pop your end cap back on and then lock it into place and then you are good to go. My final thoughts about these Vortex strips is it is a good idea just to check on your own current Rhino Rack system if they're good and if they're brittle or if they need replacing, they're still gonna work great but if you want them to work greater, I recommend replacing them since it's a really quick and easy process. Again, these are just for Rhino Rack Vortex Aero crossbars. If you have other types of crossbars, check them out on our each trailer site to get the right replacement for you..

The strip fits the Tesla roof rack perfectly and noticeably cuts down wind noise at highway speeds, making driving much quieter

by:

Just what I was looking for. Got rid of the annoying whistle sound on the Tesla roof racks. Just pull the center rubber piece out of your current Tesla roof racks with some needle nose pliers and replace with the vortex strips. You can slide them in or push them on if you can manage it. You will need 6 of the 15 3/4” pieces, 3 for each crossbar. Just insert and line up your center piece, then place the two on the sides and cut off the excess with some scissors. Great product so far! Gives it a nice look too.

by:

Bought these to help bring down the wind noise from the crossbars on my CX-50, and they live up to the hype. Far less noise at highway speeds than before.

by:

Very easy to install and quieted my Tesla OEM cross bars significantly. This product snaps in and pulls out easily making installing and removing my bike carrier much easier, yet it’s very secure.

by:

These worked perfectly to stop our Model Y roof racks from whistling. Great product. Thank you for the fast shipping.

by:

Bananas that Rhino Rack doesn’t include the minimum number of vortex strips needed for full coverage with the crossbars themselves… but eTrailer to the rescue.

by:

Firstly, this fixes the whistle!! Thank you so much!!
Secondly, shipping was EXTREMELY FAST!
Thirdly, I wish this was a bit more tight in places. It was very easy to put on but there are some places where it looks like it’s “peeling” of sorts off the bars.

Overall very excited and happy about this purchase!
Bought for a Tesla Model Y and needed 6 of them to fit! Got 7 incase (cause that’s who I am lol) but only used 6!!

by:

My Tesla model Y had an annoying whistle around 40 mph. These Vortex strips solved the problem. Easy to install in minutes and no more noise. I highly recommend them.

by:

Perfect for the roof rack we have

by:

Works great on my genuine Model Y roof rack. I no longer hear the whistle noise at speed. Just took a 500 mile road trip with no issues.

by:

Just what I needed. Pieces fall out time to time so great to know we can re order from etrailer in such helpful short lengths.

by:

Fits OEM tesla roof racks. I have a 2023 model Y. You will need 6 and then just use scissors to cut off the extra at the end. Use needlenose pliers to pull out the original rubber liner on the roof racks and then the rhino strips just pop in. Do not try sliding the rhino straps, just push them down into place. If you want to slide them, use dawn soap and water to make it easier. They fit perfect and eliminate the whistling.

by:

Lauren A. was great iver the phone and very helpful. I had bought two rhino racks in 2023. I thought I used up all of the rail covers before puttiing together the second rack just now. So I ordered 8 of them and had them delivered expeditedly. Then I find all the rail covers i thought i used up inside the cross bars. So 5 Stars for Lauren A. and the strips and 0 Stars for me being a dummy.

by:

I used these on my Tesla Model Y 2026 roof racks. The original trim was causing a whistling sound. I saw a review on you tube regarding this product. Installed it, no more whistling. 100% fixed my problem. Great solid product.

Replaced Tesla (Yakima) insert to reduce whistle and it works great!

Great! No more whistling.

by:

The vortex strips made a noticeable reduction in wind noise compared to the factory strips.

by:

Just bought six of these for the roof racks on my Tesla Model Y. It solved the problem and helped with the whistling noise. Worth it for sure… Customer service is also great.

by:

For the Tesla OEM roof rack grooves perfectly and completely reduced the whistling noise.

by:

These strips reduced our Mazda CX-50 cross bar noise. Good product and easy to install.

by:

Purchased these after searching for a solution to the "whistling" noise generated by my Tesla model Y cargo rack, (tesla cargo rack). Prior the stock strip in the front would generate a whistling noise, most noticeable between 35-60 mph. After installing these Rhino Vortex strips in the front rack crossmember the whistling noise was gone. Cheap easy fix, took about 10 minutes to take the stock strip off and put these new strips on.

by:

Great price, fast shipping. Product exactly as described.

by:

I bought these vortex strips because of the horrible noise from the roof racks on my newly purchased Mazda CX50. Since I installed them, the noise basically disappeared and I now enjoy using my car. They are very affordable too!

@Donzizi Happy to hear they are staying in place! No one wants to hear that whistle noise the bars make without them.

Replaced the stock strip on the crossbars for my Tesla Model Y, and the whistle completly vanished. Huge improvement, and they look way better as well!

  • What Stripping will Work in My Tesla OEM Roof Rack to get Rid of this Whistling?
Hello Mark, The Yakima Strips will work for your Tesla Roof Rack. Please refer to image I attached for the different stripping. - Top Infill for Yakima JetStream Crossbars - # 8880634 - Bottom Infill for Yakima JetStream Crossbars - # 8880635 Both options come in 70" strips. • Rubber Strip that Can Fit Crossbar Top Channel that is 11 mm Wide

  • How to Quiet a Loud Roof Rack
The only solutions to a loud roof rack are to remove it, install new Vortex strips like item # RRM626, or to install a fairing like the item # RRRF2 you were looking at. No matter what brand you have they are all loud and obnoxious so I don't want to get your expectations up that swapping out your Rhino-Rack for a Yakima or Thule is going to make a significant difference. The fairings direct the air above the bars so you may want to ensure you have the correct size. I do not see any orders...

  • Availability Of Rubber Strip Seal For Tesla Roof Rack
Hello Michael, thanks for reaching out. We do sell a few of the replacement rubber strips for aftermarket roof racks like Rhino Rack # RRM626 and Yakima # 8880634. If I am not mistaken, the Tesla roof racks are made by Yakima. If your Tesla does use the Yakima bars, the Replacement Top Infill # 8880634 may be what you need. This is made to fit the Yakima JetStream Aero crossbars. I have included some dimensions of the Yakima bars below. Please compare this to what you have and see if it...

  • How Many Rubber Strips are Needed for OEM Crossbars On a 2024 Tesla Model Y
Darren, you'd need one Replacement Vortex Strip for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars per bar # RRM626, so a standard roof rack would require two. These rubber strips will absolutely correct that noise issue you're talking about since those c-channels would be covered up, and will work great with your crossbars.

  • Channel Strip that Could Fit Crossbars of 2023 Audi Q5
Hey David, the most important dimension you mentioned is the 7/16 inch width of the top part of the channel which matches what the Rhino Rack crossbar dimensions have so you could the part # RRM626 which is a 15-3/4 inch long strip. You could order several to match the channel length that you have. This will do a great job reducing the wind noise. Does it sound like a loud whistle currently? Exposed channels can be pretty crazy sounding on crossbars on the highway.

  • Can Rhino-Rack Vortex Strip Be Cut or Drilled Through To Install Accessories
Hey Josh! I'm assuming you're talking about the Rhino-Rack Vortex Roof Rack # RR59XE for your 2025 Outback Wilderness. I don't know how well drilling will work but you can certainly try it. Personally, I would cut the strip around where you plan to install the bolts. Worst case if you mess it up you can always pick up some additional Vortex Strips # RRM626. • Channel Cover for Roof Rack on Tesla Model 3
I may have a solution for you but if you have the Model 3 roof rack by Tesla on your 2020 Tesla Model 3, then we do not have a channel cover specifically designed to fit your roof rack. If the opening in your roof rack is open then it will cause some wind noise. The Replacement Vortex Strip for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRM626 was designed and tested to work in the top channel of a Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero crossbar. This does not mean that it will not work for you, but you will...

  • Replacement Rubber T-Slot Strip for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars
Sure thing! What you're needing is the Replacement Vortex Strip # RRM626 which measures 15-3/4" long. Rhino-Rack unfortunately doesn't have full lengths of the strip so you have to piece this out with what you're needing. The nice thing is you can cut this as needed so you might only need 1 strip to fill the missing gaps. Rhino-Rack has a good middle-of-the-road roof rack system but they have the only rubber strip style that requires you to trim the rubber piece to accommodate T-Slot...

  • Replacement Rubber Strips for Roof Rack Crossbars with Channels
You'll be able to use almost any replacement strip as they are almost always fit for a 3/8 inch channel. I specifically recommend the Thule Replacement Channel Cover 59 inch, part # 852-5402-005 or the Rhino Rack Vortex 15-3/4, part # RRM626. These are vortex-patterned strips that will fit 3/8 inch channels and replace your existing damaged or cut strips.

  • How to Decrease Wind Noise When Using Rhino-Rack Vortex Bars
Yes! The Vortex Strips in your Vortex Aero Bars # RRVA137B-2 help cut down on wind noise when driving. What I've noticed is that without the strips, it's like the bars catch some of the air and send it whistling through the C channels. What will help with that is to cut the rubber strips from your crossbars and fit them around the clamps on your Lockrack Carrier. Even if you're using the T-bolts to mount the carrier, you can still push in the rubber strips after the carrier is installed...
