Today we'll be taking a look at the Yakima windshield fairing. These are available in a variety of different sizes, at 52 inches long part number Y05019, and 46 inches long, part number Y05018, at 34 inches long, part number Y05016. We'll be working with the 40 inch long one, and that's part number Y05017. This universal fairing deflects wind around your roof rack to drastically reduce noise and drag. It's sleek design enhances the overall look of your roof rack. It's an easy clamp on installation, and the padded feet are going to protect your vehicle's finish.
The theft deterring hardware requires the included tool for installation for removal. The fairing is constructed out of a flexible heavy duty plastic, and it's covered by Yakima's love it till you leave it lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing we want to do is go ahead and set our fairing in position. Today, we're working with the Yakima jet stream crossbar, but this will work with your round, square, arrow, elliptical and most factory refrac systems. Let's go ahead and set it in place.
We want to make sure the notch portion sits in our crossbar like this, and then we can go ahead and center it up. Looks like we need to come this way a little bit. Once we've got it centered up, we can then bring our straps around and then we're going to connect it to the underside here. Once we've got them all connected, we can then tighten them down with our included tool. As you can see, it's drawing the strap through, and it'll be a nice snug fit.
Once we get it nice and tight, we can just repeat it for the other 3 straps. With all those tightened down, let's go ahead and take our strap and tuck it in the keeper here. Just like that. Now the last thing that we can do is take our clear pad and place it on our vehicle where our fairing comes in contact. That's just to protect our vehicle from any harm. That's going to complete our look at the Yakima windshield fairing, part number Y05017..

It was very easy to install and has drastically cut down on the wind noise from my roof rack (I had the round bars).
Have a custom roof rack with 1-1/8” round cross bars. The Yakima fairing fits great! Virtually eliminated the wind noise. Quality product and worth the money. Great customer service. Order was shipped promptly.
Ive had a roof rack for years now...why did I wait until now to get this fairing? Shipping was fast and installation was easy as 1-2-3 and took maybe 10 minutes. Visually pleasing and the noise inside at speed has been cut by at least 80%!!

Yakima 40" fairing for a 2010 Toyota Prius. Fit is not as good as the earlier fairings, there is a substantial amount of space between the fairing itself and my round bar. The including mounting is not very secure from would-be thieves, as it would only take a knife to cut through the four straps that encircle the bar with yakima-produced zip ties. At [a high price], this should have better secure mounting. No "whistling" noticed yet at highway speeds, and seems to do the job to streamline my rack.
Arrived earlier than expected. Instructions could have been a bit more clear regarding installation, but easy enough. The frustration came when I actually installed the car-top carrier. This product makes the installation of a Yakima car-top carrier significantly more difficult - which is odd since they are the same brand and you would think they would be more compatible. It worked and noise issues were kept to a minimum during our drive, but during installation of the car-top carrier I was concerned the WindShield would crack/break (thankfully it didn't).
This fairing made a huge difference with wind noise!
Does a good job of reducing the whistle from the roof rack I had installed. No maintenance issues after a year (and many trips through the car wash), and it still looks good. Read the instructions carefully to be sure you've got it properly attached with the right amount of snugness.
The Yakima wind fairing fit our sons 2008 honda civic perfectly and cuts the wind noise 100%! He loves the way it looks and and enjoys driving his car so much more now.
Easy to assemble, sturdy and really helps dampen the air flow around your front bar, thus almost eliminating the noise. Great product, solid customer service from etrailer.com.
Product took the air noise away completely. E Trailer was extremely prompt in processing and shipping my order. This is the second item I have purchased from them and I would give them rave reviews. Their customer service was tops also when I had questions.
Yakima fairings fit well and last a long time.
Easy purchase. Arrived on-time. Easy to install. Looks great. I would prefer slightly larger clear strips for the roof of the car, just to allow a little greater room for error, but this is a minor suggestion.
Missing the plactic the clear pads.Thats the only one missing.The product is really good but i just dont like when something is missing with my order.
