Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Replacement Motor for Lippert Electric Coach Step

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the replacement motor for an electric coach step. This replaces the 12 volt motor that came standard on your single, double, or triple electric Lippert coach step or Stromberg Carlson sliding step. This unit's designed to power the gear assembly that allows the step to extend and retract. It draws power directly from the RV battery which is going to allow it to bypass the electrical system. It simply installs underneath the base of your step with three bolts. Here's the mounting location for those bolts.

Those bolts are not included. The motor in the gear box assembly can be replaced by disconnecting the two pin connector from the module to the motor and then you'll need to remove the p clamp. That's going to be holding the harness to the motor mount. You'll also need to remove the ball joint linkage from the gear and remove a self tapping screw that holds the ground wire in place. Then you'll need to remove the three bolts that hold the motor mount to the step base. I do want to mention that care should be taken not to disturb the adjustment in the length of the ball joint linkage.

Then you simply install the new motor in reverse order. Really simple process. Only takes a few minutes to do. I do need to mention that you need to know that no adjustment is required. You will notice that this is a weather proof plug. It's got the snap lock designs once it's connected, snap lock together, and then it's got the jacketing that goes over the wires.

It's going to keep those safe and protected. That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement motor for an electric coach step. Again, this replaces the 12 volt motor that came standard on your single, double or triple electric Lippert coach step or Stromberg Carlson sliding step.

Product was an exact replacement. Prices on the Internet varied by almost $72. Etrailer had the best price and with free delivery, we received the shipment in 2 days! This is an incredible seller.
Judy M. was a great support person.

The follow-up and upgraded shipping (at no additional cost) made it possible to receive this part in 2 days. Updates were sent throughout the order/shipping process.
It's nice to see aggresive service when it wasn't even asked for.

I will definitely use them again

by:

Great service and price. I installed the entry step motor and we are now back in operation again. Thank you!

by:

Just as it says, this is the replacement motor for our step on our 2004 Holiday Rambler Motorhome. It was easy to order and came a day earlier than expected. The motor was packed well and was very easy to install. It looks and feels substantial, made of metal and not plastic. It looks like it will last a long time as it is located under the motorhome and exposed to the elements. I would highly recommend this.

by:

Great service!! Randall is great at helping you get the right parts. Part fits as OEM, job done in less than 20 minutes.

This review is for the step motor only. The step motor is already starting to make a grinding noise when extending. I checked and all bolts are tight. The steps were used very little and for the cost of the replacement I expected better quality. I’m sure they will fail fairly soon.

@Michael Sorry to hear you're having issues! Just double checking that you know the issue is coming from the motor itself and not from the gearbox? I can try reaching out to my contact at Lippert to see if they have anything for you to troubleshoot, but I'd like to double check that part first just to be sure.

by:

The step motor solved my unresponsive steps issue. The wiring was much shorter than the bad motor wiring; so much so that I couldn’t run the wiring under the big gear or use my existing cable clamp. Also, I was concerned about the new wiring getting caught up on the screw heads that secure the big gear to the new motor body so I removed the cable clamp and put a tie strap on the wiring to another set of wires to lift it up a couple inches. Very pleased that this item was one and done to fix the steps. Thanks to Sheila C. She made sure this was the correct part before I ordered it. She gets 5 stars but the part gets a 3.5.

Before pics 1-4, After pics 5-7.

by:

Exact replacement that fit and works pe rfectly.

by:

The product arrived in good time and was the exact part I had ordered. It was manufactured by the same as the orginal. It took me about an hour to replace after I had the old one out. Depending how mechanical you are it may take less or more. I have work as a maintnence man for years but this was simple. I advise if you do it yourself watch for the spacer for the motor that you don't lose any. One goes on each side of the motor. The allen on the the fixed gear on the frame has to be loosen to take off the old and to replace the new. Thank etrailer.com your product and price was great. I hope not to have to repair anything else but will be sure to check with you for parts. Thanks Again.

Went bad after a year. The motor is making a really loud sound when the steps deploy out. Currently at the RV repair shop getting replaced again...

by:

After a year the drive motor us still working fine. Original installation was fairly easy, except the mounting holes did not exactly line up. I had to enlarge one of them in order to get it to align.

While traveling, my motor coach steps motor failed. I found the part on Amazon.

I decided to call etrailer anyway because I have dealt with them in the past and found their customer service to be first rate. I am very happy for that decision.

etrailer, price matched Amazon. No big deal there. However, the part did not arrive as expected. I tracked it via UPS tracking and it showed the part as delivered. It was delivered, to the wrong house! I am quickly running out of time and UPS is not answering the phone. Out of desperation I called etrailer at 8:00 PM and Tammie answered! After business hours Tammie contacted UPS via their contact information. Within a few minutes the UPS supervisor and driver had contacted me.

It was determined that the part got dropped off at the wrong address. etrailer immediately sent out a replacement part and settled up with UPS on their end.

What service.

Part arrived and all is well.

I would definitely order from them again.

by:

I purchased a replacement motor for a Lippert Electric Coach Step (part # 301695) could not complete the installation because the part had a manufacturing defect in that the original bolts would not fit into the motor's bolt holes because the bolt holes were too small. etrailer has recieved complaints of this same issue since at least January 2021 and yet they still choose to sell and send a defective part to me. I was given the option to return the item for a refund... however I took a risk and drilled out the bolt holes on the motor with a 1/4" drill bit and then was able to complete the installation. The motor worked just fine and my steps are working properly.

The primary gear on the Kwiki power step needed replacing. The original motor was still operating.but it was noisy. After 13 years of use it needed replacing. The new motor was installed but was defective. A second motor was sent by etrailer and it has been operating perfectly. Etrailer replaced the defective motor without any questions.

by:

Step motor worked perfectly! Steps didnt work that good when the MH was new ! Although under warranty back then, all they would do is grease the pivot points and blame it on the chinese!
Best part of this venture was dealing with Barb at Lippert and another parts man, who guided me to the correct motor , and putting me through to etrailer where Geoff also confirmed what I needed, and shipped it immediately.
I dont have a picture to share, but, instead of the steps ,when retracted, staying up, would jiggle down about half way. Now they quietly retract and stay up. I'm keeping both Lippert and etrailers phone # on speed dial. Thanks folks

The motor runs fine, but the bolt holes were too small diameter for the OEM bolts. I had to drill the holes to a larger diameter. The hole alignment was also not correct to match the original pattern. Drilling the holes larger gave enough tolerance to align the motor to tighten down. I hope I did not buy Chinese junk.

This is a universal product for Lippert Coach electric sliding steps. So it is a general fix to all the single, double, or triple Lippert Steps. For that reason, some modification may be needed.

~ One year ago, I received the replacement motor for my Lippert Electric Coach Step. The motor that I received was correct. I installed the motor on my Tiffin Class A Breeze electric step, and it has worked fine since then. No complaints.

by:

I had trouble finding the replacement motor for my electric steps on my 1996 Southwind. They are Kwikee Step series 32, I was told that Kwikee no longer made the motor. But the Stromberg Carlson motor SP 1636669 was the direct replacement. It took less than an hour to do the job.

I finally did hear back from Lippert. They advised that sometimes holes do need to be drilled out to make this fit. It is the only motor from this brand of steps for this Coach.

It could be that the motor is stuttering before the steps are fully retracted causing them to retract as it thinks that it may be hitting something.
