Troubleshooting Coach Step Assembly 725-0042 That Won't Extend or Retract Completely

Updated 10/04/2025 | Published 09/12/2025

Question:

2006 Monaco Monarch stair issue. Stairs will not extend or retract completely. Motor runs in both directions but will not hold the steps secure in either direction. No clicking noise. Everything has been lubed. Will replacing the motor take care of this? One of the 2 labels under carriage reads: SCS Frigette RV Step controller 202-3230. The other reads: Coach Step Inc Ft. Worth 03602 Part number 725-0042 Step sassy. Any help will be appreciated!

Hey Steve!

I reached out to Lippert to double check, and they agree that you just need a replacement motor to fix your issue. The correct replacement is the Motor # LC301695 for your application.

Are you going to be installing this on your own?

Hey Steve, did replacing the motor fix the issue with your Monaco Monarch stairs? I'm asking because your experience could help others facing similar problems.
