  • Propane pigtail connects your propane cylinder to a regulator
    • Used for single or dual tank setups on the front of your travel trailer
  • Female Type 1 fitting connects to the valve on your propane cylinder
  • Male Inverted flare connects to a propane regulator
  • Built-in bypass mode shuts gas off when flow reaches maximum capacity for safety
    • Thermal shut-off device turns off gas flow in extreme heat caused by open flame
    • Excess-flow safety device limits gas flow in the event of a severe leak
  • Durable thermoplastic hose and brass fittings approved for LP gas only
    • Rated for high pressure and high flow rate to handle unregulated propane
    • UL569 and ANSI Z21-81 certified
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Temperature range: -40 F to 140 F
  • Hose dimensions: 36" long x 1/4" inner diameter
  • Hose fittings:
    • Type 1 tank connection
    • 1/4" Male inverted flare
  • Maximum pressure rating: 350 psi
  • Maximum flow capacity: 450,000 Btu per hour
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Bypass Mode for Safety

This Type 1 connector will go into bypass mode if the flow rate surpasses the maximum flow capacity for this connector, which is 450,000 Btu per hour. A ball inside of the fitting will push an internal spring down, pressing firmly against the bottom of the fitting to shut off the flow of gas.

When choosing a Type 1 connector, consider your overall propane demands and choose a connector with a flow rate that just exceeds it. That way, you won't trigger the bypass mode during normal use, but it will trigger in the event of a leak. If the bypass valve engages, stop using gas and start checking your connections for leaks.

Video Transcript for MB Sturgis Propane - Hoses - 100575-36-MBS Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the MB Sturgis Propane Pigtail Hose. This is used to connect a dual LP cylinder system to a 2-stage regulator. It's going to feature the RV Type 1 connector on this end. On the other end is a 1/4" male inverted flare. The Type 1 provides a higher rate of flow resulting in a decreased potential for the system to go into bypass mode and therefore shutting down the gas supply to the system. The assembly's going to measure 36" long, nice thermo-plastic construction is strong, durable and flexible.

The Type 1 includes an internal back-check to ensure that the system does not allow a back-flow gas leak. It also features a heat sensitive thermal shut off device to shut off the gas in extreme heat situations. The inner diameter of the hose is 1/4". When it comes to certification it's UL, ANSI and CSA certified. It's designed for LP gas only, that's liquid propane, and this assembly is going to feature a temperature range -40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and the maximum flow capacity is 200,000 BTUs per hour.

That's going to do it for today's look at the MB Sturgis Propane Pigtail Hose.

Easy swap out. No leaks. The 3ft allows me to attach a 100# tank with no extra adapters or extensions

When I bought my ruck camper a few years ago I replaced the rubber propane hoses, low pressure hose and pigtails. The low pressure one had a leak and the pigtails looked like they were the age of the TC, > 20 years.

I ordered a set of pigtails from Amazon. They were dirt cheap but looked and worked great, stainless mesh sleeve. Now 3 years later, I realize that was a mistake. The pigtail hoses turned very hard and are almost impossible to bend anymore. It made filling tanks very hard, the horizontal tanks need to come out for that and the pigtails need to bend out of the way. The pigtails are short, 12 inches, and need to bend in a pretty small radius to make it to the tank as well, pretty much the shape of real piglet tail.

After the most recent fill I noticed a leak and found that he hoses turn freely on the hose barbs. Apperently the rubber not only hardens, but not surprisingly, also shrinks. That is a very dangerous failure mode for a propane hose. When I checked with soapy water I found that all 4 ends had a slow leak. No way to tighten the crimped on hose clamps, not that I even wanted to.

I bought new pigtails from eTrailer. No stainless mesh this time. Hoses are made in Canada and 4 feet long. Getting the tanks in and out is much easier and I would expect that these hoses will last.

The regulator end did not fit, the regulator has a 1/8 NPT and pigtails don't sell with that thread option, only 1/4 NPT or 1/4 invered flare. I re-used the hose barbs from the Amazon ones and used good quality hose clamps. The hose itself of the old ones will likely never leak, however the shrinkages and hardening over time makes the material not suitable for use.

The new hoses are MB Sturgis brand. it turns out that the 20 year old original pigtails that actually did not leak yet when I replaced them, and had not hardened by much, had the same hose brand. The new ones are more expensive but replacing cheap ones every 2 years is actually far more expensive.

The Shinestar brand Amazon pigtails are a safety risk and sales should be halted. If you used these, I would suggest checking and probably replacing them.

  • Hoses That Fit JR Products Automatic Changeover Regulator 37207-30395
You will need hoses with a 1/4" male inverted flare to connect to the JR Products Automatic Changeover RV LP Gas Regulator # 37207-30395. I was unable to find the hose size that connected to the Winntec you have, but if they don't fit, then they wouldn't be 1/4" male inverted flare, as that's the correct size for the # 37207-30395. So you will need new hoses, and can choose the length you need from the following, each of which has the correct fitting to connect to your regulator: - 1...
