Jeff: Hello, everybody. This Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Taylor Made 12-inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat hatch lid or compartment door. This strut will extend to ease lifting your hatch lid, or compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It is made of a heat-treated steel construction, which is very durable.
And they do use a corrosion-resistant coating on it, so it won't rust, even in saltwater areas. It easily installs in minutes. No special tools are required. It is a ball and socket installation. Basically, this will attach to the ball stud that's on the inside of your boat's hatch or compartment door.
And basically, when you do install this, you want to make sure this inner rod was facing down. And it is always recommended to replace the gas shocks in pairs. The connection type is a 10-millimeter ball socket. And basically, when you go to install this, what you'll do to remove the old one, you'll just put a flat tip screwdriver underneath the clip here, pop that clip open, and then you can move the old one from your boat. And then what you'll do to install this one, put the screwdriver under the clip, pop open the clip. Now you don't want to remove the clip all the way.
Just pop it open enough that you can place this over the 10-millimeter ball, and then push that clip right down into position. It'll secure it. Total length on this, which is measured from the center of this socket to the center of this socket, it'll be right at 12 inches. Compression force on this is 60 pounds. And it is for a quantity of one strut.
But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 12-inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches..
