Video Transcript for Checking Out the Taylor Made Marine Gas Strut for Boat Hatches

Today we're going to take a look at the Taylor Made 20" long steel gas shock. Now this gas shock will replace the worn out or damaged shock on your dock box or boat hatch. It's a coated annealed steel construction, which provides corrosion resistance. So it is perfect for high saltwater areas. It easily installs in minutes, there's no special tools required to install it. And when you do install this, you do always want to make sure this rod portion right here is facing down. And it is recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs.A few specs on this.

The connection type, it's a removable 10mm ball socket, with the retaining clip. And I wanted to zoom in just to show you details of how this connects on each end. If you'll notice there's the ball socket, and then on top of it they have this retaining clip that holds it into place. So what you'll want to do is take a flat tip screwdriver, slide it up underneath that retaining clip, pull up on it to release it, and then that'll allow you to push this onto your 10mm ball. Once it's on there, then just push that clip back down and it will secure it to the ball. Now the length on this is is always measured from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other ball socket.

So if we take our tape measure and go center to center, there's your 20" length. And the output force on this shock is 40 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 20" long steel gas shock.

  • How To Extended A Gas Strut That Is Stuck Closed
I went out to our warehouse to see if all of our Taylor Made Marine Gas Strut for Boat Hatches # 3691837 were compressed like you mention yours is, and they are not. My thoughts are you may have a faulty strut, these struts should be extended and require 40lbs of force to compress. In some cases you may be able to twist the shaft of strut counter clockwise and that may release the strut if it is stuck closed.
