Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I received my Drawtite receiver on Friday and I was impressed with the quick shipping and sturdy boxing. However there is a scrape about 2” long on the top edge down into the metal on the exposed part that protrudes through the air dam on the front of my 2018 F-150. There was no damage to the box and nothing would have done that damage during shipping. I touched it up with a black Sharpie, but that’s not going to stop it from rusting. It is a truck, so though it’s disappointing, it’s not that big of a deal. The instructions were mostly clear, but I do have a couple of additions that may make it easier for future installations for my type of truck and installation method. I installed it on my garage floor with all the tools listed in the instructions. I trimmed the air dam as instructed and used a floor jack to elevate the receiver up into position, but due to the receiver’s shape it would tip back and the square tube portion would tip up into the top of the air dam slot and not allow me to line up the forward bolt holes. I ended up completely removing the air dam and this allowed me to get the clearance to lift it high enough to install the forward bolts (reinstalled the air dam after the receiver was torqued to specs). Removing the air dam also allowed me more room for my head and arms to fit under the truck, making installation easier. There was not enough space to install one each of the spacer washers on the front holes, but if the washers were half as thick, there would of been space to install one on each side (maybe include 8 washers instead of 4 and make them thinner). I could of used an included washer on one side but then the receiver would not have been centered in the air dam opening. Also in the instructions the only access hole mentioned & diagramed is the one near the rear bolt hole in the frame, but on the F-150 there is a access hole about 3” in front of the forward bolt hole (much easier to use than the rear access hole). The rear bolt hole spacers that are taped in place are too thick and would not stay taped to the frame as the receiver was lifted up into position (pivoting on the loosely installed front bolts), so I had remove the tape and use a heavy duty screwdriver to pry the receiver away from the frame and position the spacer in place with another screwdriver at the same time to line up the holes. The whole job took me about 3 hours and I know that having the truck on a lift would have cut that time down considerably, but having the instructions include what I mentioned above would have saved some more time too. I’ve included some photos from my project. Have a good day,

2019 F-150 xlt. I highly recommend this hitch and will be a repeat customer. I ordered my hitch on 8-5-19 and received it on 8-7-19. I was able to install it in about 1 hour by myself. I do recommend doing it alone, use a helper if possible. I saw that some reviewers complained of it pointing downward. I jacked the front of the hitch up until it was horizontal and then tightened all 4 bolts to 110 lbs. It is level and looks like a factory install. I am happy I chose Etrailer.

The hitch is durable and works perfectly after my first year. I miss-typed on my first review. I do not recommend installing it alone. I could have done a faster install if I had a helper. After a year Im still pleased with the purchase.

It was reasonable to install. Not super easy because I didn't have a lift to work underneath with and had to put the truck up on jack stands, but I got the job done. The front hitch itself, works very well and meets my needs. I use it to push my travel trailer into tight spots that backing into is difficult.

I went with Draw-tite due to cost (cheaper). In retrospect I should have gone with Curt. After my install I only had 6 1/2" of clearance. This prompted me to finally install the MOTOFAB leveling kit 1 1/2 inches and add BFGs 31 inch. This rasied the front so I now have 10" clearance. I would have even better clearance with the CURT. Also it did not take me 30 minutes to install. Took me for freakin' ever. Lining up the hitch with the frame without the right tools sucks. Overall though just happy to have the ability to bring more crap camping

This Draw-Tite front hitch is a solid hitch! Well made, and well coated! The installation instructions were clear, although I recommend reading through them a couple times BEFORE starting the install. (That really helped.) Also, I've installed several hitches on the rear of vehicles before, so I knew what to expect. But don't try installing this hitch without an extra set of hands! There is some effort required to hoist it into position, get the guide wires through the correct holes, and pull it into position. They estimated 30 minutes, I took my time and it probably took closer to 45-60 minutes. That includes cutting a slot in my lower air dam to allow the hitch to poke through. I'm looking forward (no pun intended) to pushing snow from the front of my F150 instead of the rear as in past years! Finally, and as always - etrailer has been awesome to work with! They deliver their products super fast, they follow up to ensure everything arrived as intended, offer support all through the installation, and they really want to ensure you are happy! I've been using etrailer for several years now and I recommend them to all my friends!

Shipping was great. It got here ahead of time. Directions and installation kit were excellent. My only suggestion is to try and get the receiver tube higher and further forward. The front of the receiver is only 8.5 inches above the ground and 4.5 inches behind the face of the bumper. It may work for most people but more ground clearance and flush with the bumper would be good.

Installation is very difficult. Its possible to complete but take your time going through it as a small mistake could possibly sideline your efforts. Once it is on the vehicle it is satisfactory. It does sit low so it takes away a large portion of clearance. Also, it has the ability to move up or down. Up when on the truck but once a load is put on it will drop in height and lose some clearance, and be slightly at a down angle. Not much you can do about it. Its how it is designed (to fit many vehicles). The engineers worked too fast on these specs in my professional opinion. I am happy with it being strong and durable. But, once it is on the truck you can only take it off once. Not something that can be put back onto the vehicle once taken off due to the design of the bolts.

Took a little longer than the 40 min the instructions said it would. But, I took my time, and I’m pleased. Install wasn’t difficult, trimming the valance not bad either. I took the valance off first, installed the hitch then trimmed the valance and reinstalled. Going to use the hitch for a front fishing cooler rack.

Ordered both the front mount trailer hitch receiver and a cargo carrier 60"X24" both came beat up by UPS but only one washer was missing. Now to the good stuff! Love them both very good quality and the Cargo Carrier was a breeze to put together after we downloaded the instructions as the one in the package was ripped and unreadable. As for the front hitch receiver every thing was fine. Great quality and installation instructions were easy to follow. Great Products. We wil be using both products for a journey to Alaska and back

Don't expect your box to survive shipping :) It's a touch lower (approx 7" clearance) than I wanted, but I think it will meet my needs. etrailer price was great and shipping was super fast! Will definitely buy from them again.

Had it a year now, its still on the truck. Bought a skidplate attachment for those times where I cannot avoid the clearance. Overall still love it.

I needed a place to put a bike rake when towing our camping trailer and sometimes I needed a little more accuracy when backing the trailer. I installed the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver from eTrailer. The directions indicated a 1/2 install but I'm 67 and working on a sloped driveway so it took about 1.5 hours which included the time to remove the air dam, clean 5-years worth of dead bugs off it and cut the opening for the hitch. I did not need to use a jack. The hitch fit so well that I just pushed it up into position and it stayed in place. If you do this installation you do not need to cut the air dam opening to 3" as 2 5/8" will work and provide a closer fit. Also the air conditioning condenser support on my truck is bolted through the access holes for threading the bolts into the frame. Just loosen the brackets, slide the condenser frame forward and you can slide the bolts in. Although the box looked like it had been through a long war, the hitch and all the necessary bolts, etc. arrived in good condition with not even a scratch. I think for an old coot the installation went well and looks pretty good. I have bought several hitches from eTrailer and all have been a quality product.

Install was pretty easy. I did it on my own with a small jack to help lift it in place. It worked for what I needed, kind of. I use the front hitch on my trucks for a cooler/rod basket for surf fishing. The design of the hitch was just too low to be used all the time. The hitch sits below the bumper and you need to cut the wind screen to fit around the receiver tube. Also mine had a slight downward cant. After the fall fishing season I took it off and used the material to modify it. I think a better design would be to have the receiver come out through the lower grill. This is where mine is now after modifying. It also sits behind the lower grill out of site. Since I have the 5.0 my lower grill is solid, the eco boost motors have the two vertical bars and are otherwise open. Seems like a much more use full location since it puts the hitch about the same height as the rear hitch at that point. Even if being used to tow a trailer around with the front, it would still work there.

- 65067
by:
Ford Edge

The front edge of the hitch sits three (3) inches back from front bumper so is almost not visible. Might be a problem if your trailer has a very short tongue. The Bottom of the hitch also sits about four (4) inches from the ground. Had hitch installed professionally paid minimum 1 hour charge. Total cost hitch plus installation less than $250.

All parts in the box. Install was easy, trimming air foil on week old truck took two deep breaths. Fun thing is putting bike rack on front and putting on folding beach chairs. No climbing in the bed of truck or slamming them on rough trails.

2018 Ford F-150

The hitch arrived as scheduled, the the shipping carton had holes in it where the corners of the hitch punched through. The hitch was not bent, but there were multiple scratches and places where the paint had chipped off that required touch-up. I spent 3 hours installing this hitch, not 30 to 40 minutes as suggested in the instructions. The instruction fail to show the "forward mount access hole" that the pull wires go through, so this took some time to figure out. The use of "tape" to temporarily hold the spacers in place while lifting the hitch into position did not work. I used caulking for this purpose. Also, the "conical washers" do not hold the carriage bolts in place once the pull wires are removed, so keep a finger on the bolts while engaging the nuts on the threads of the bolts to keep them from falling back into the truck frame. The hitch fit the frame of my truck OK and required only one washer at the front mount position to take up the gap. Overall, I am satisfied with the hitch. It will help me back my travel trailer up a long driveway with curves. On my truck, the bottom of the hitch tongue is only 8" above the ground, so be aware that your ground clearance is reduced.

2016 Ford F-150 Crew Cab 4 Wheel Drive - I tow a travel trailer, needed a slip on D & P mirrors for wider view on existing rear view mirrors. Longview mirrors for my vehicle attach easy & don't seem to vibrate. (Works well ). I selected a draw-tite 2" front trailer hitch for my vehicle - helps carry bicycles or other items and functions. The directions for installation were very good and I feel I could have installed it. A ramp & lift to hold the hitch in place to attach the hitch were very helpful. ( I didn't have them). My friendly local dealer installed it, for a very reasonable price & completed in 30 minutes. Shipping cardboard box was ripped & torn contents ok !

I have a 2017 F-150 Ford Lariat and purchased Draw-Tite model #65067 Front Hitch Receiver to move my 30', 6500 lb. (594 tongue weight) travel trailer around the driveway. Everything fit like a glove. The video was excellent. I was panicky when I didn't see a video link in the instructions, but it came a day later via email. Shipping was quick - down side is the packing as my hitch receiver had a lot of scratching and chipped paint. I used a spray paint can to touch it up to prevent rust. Here's a thought for etrailer.com - in the order information - using a dropdown menu - ask for preferred language. That was a wad of paper to cull through, plus it would cut down on waste. Just a thought. While this review offers a suggestion and one negative - make no mistake - If the time arrives and I need another hitch receiver (or other towing accessory), I will come back to etrailer.com. I put the hitch to work immediately and everything worked great!

Looking at the way these 2 front hitches mount to the 2019 Ford F-150, they're going to be fairly similar. The Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 65067 is rated for up to 500 lbs and will allow you to transport your 289 lb dirt bike using a carrier like # MT70101 or # UF48-979033. You can use the carrier on the front of your vehicle, but you will want to make sure you don't block too much air flow to your radiator.
