Clearance Formula:
Use the formula below to ensure there will be enough space between your truck cab and trailer when executing a 90-degree turn.

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A= Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B= Length of Sidewinder arm (19K = 22")
C= Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

For example: If the distance from the center of the hitch to the cab is 36", 36" + 22" = 58". If your fifth wheel trailer is 102" wide, take half (51"), then plug in: 58" - 51" = 7" of clearance.

Sidewinder premium fifth wheel pin box coupler

1. Sidewinder Pivot Point - 22" behind the king pin
2. Rotating Turret - attaches to the pin box on the trailer
3. Universal King Pin Locking Wedge (not pictured) - prevents pivot at fifth wheel hitch
4. Fifth Wheel King Pin - attaches to the hitch in the truck bed for towing
5. Sidewinder Standard Arm - rated at 19K

Sidewinder premium fifth wheel pin box coupler eliminates need for wide turns

Nimble and quick. Up to 90-degree turning.
It is now possible to turn the short-bed truck 90 degrees with no fear of contact between the truck's cab and the coach. The included universal king pin locking wedge prevents the trailer from turning/pivoting at the trailer hitch. The rotating turret allows turning/pivoting to take place an additional 22" away from the cab.

Hitch Specifics and Wedge Locations

2. Reese Signature Series and similar units
3. Holland and similar units

A. Bolt locations
B. King pin

Custom Wedges: The included universal wedge works great on preventing the king pin from rotating in most fifth wheel hitches. However, Holland and PullRite hitches will require a custom wedge.

Hitch Problems: The Sidewinder models will work well with all fifth wheel hitches, except for the Curt Q5 and the B&W Companion. The Curt Q5 cushioning allows too much movement for the Sidewinder to operate properly. The B&W hitch requires two additional bolts (1/2", grade 5) to be installed at the rear most support to keep the hitch from rotating. Check with B&W about warranty regulations.

Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel King Pin - Pin Box Upgrade - ST400-SW19K Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Reese Sidewinder Fifth-wheel King Pin with the rotating turret, has a 19,000 pound weight capacity. Now, with this sidewinder, the fifth-wheel trailer's pivot point is moved an extra 22 inches toward the rear of your tow vehicle, so that you can easily make 90 degree turns even with a sharp bed truck. There's no need to get out of your truck, throw a switch, push a button, amount a fifth-wheel slider. The trailer will trap for more closely to the truck for better drivability, and that 22 inches it moves is measured from the center of the king pin right up here to the center of the turret post right here. Now, this sidewinder and turret assembly will bolt onto your fifth-wheel trailer and includes the mounting hardware. The king pin right up here is what'll connect to your standard fifth-wheel trailer hitch. It allows easy hook up and disconnect at any angle. Now, they do include a universal locking wedge that'll prevent the king pin here from rotating in your hitch jaws and allows to rotate back here at the turret.

Now, some fifth-wheel hitches may require a custom wedge instead of the universal wedge, and we do sell those separately on our website. Now, this is a one piece streamline construction. The sidewinder is a nice C channel design, provides more stability and strength than your standard pin box, and it's able to support heavier loads.Few specs on this. The turret that's mounted on here is designed for use with the following OEM pin boxes. Fits the Leland's 7910, the 7920, and the 7921, and it fits the Dexter 221-0037. Again, the trailer weight capacity on this is 19,000 pounds.

Pin weight capacity is 3,800 pounds, and the last thing I do want to mention is on the product page of this part number at the very bottom of the product page, there's a clearance formula and this'll show you how to calculate if they'll be enough space between your truck cabin trailer when you're executing a 90 degree turn with the sidewinder installed. But, that should do it for the review on the Reese Sidewinder Fifth wheel King Pin with the rotating turret and a 19,000 pound weight capacity.

Everything works as advertised, measuring is important for proper clearance. I thought it was odd that the hitch sits at a downward angle and not flat. After several emails and pictures, Reese assured everything is normal. I have had no problems and recommend this hitch. (don't forget to retorque all the bolts after a couple of trips) 661522

Ask the Experts about this Reese Fifth Wheel King Pin

  • Can a Sidewinder be Used with a Gooseneck Coupler Adapter
No, Reese does not recommend the use of any kind of adapter with the Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pins or the Fifth Airborne Sidewinder products. If you would like to send me some information about your vehicle and the trailer you will be towing, I will be glad to try to make a recommendation for you that includes a gooseneck adapter. The length of your truck bed, the distance from the gooseneck ball to the back of the cab, the width of the trailer and the amount of any pin box extension...

  • Replacement Lower Wear Plate, Pivot Bushing, and Upper Wear Plate for 19K Sidewinder
To replace the lower wear disc on your 19K Sidewinder pin box, you can use the Reese Replacement Square Lower Wear Disc for Sidewinder # 113983. I spoke with my contact at Reese and 5th Airborne and he confirmed that these are the correct parts for the Sidewinder pin box. The pivot bushing is not available as a replacement part. Since you'll have the pin dismantled to replace these parts, if you'd also like to replace the upper wear disc, you can use the Reese Replacement Top Wear...

  • 22k Fifth Wheel Hitch that's Compatible with Sidewinder Pin Box
Do you know what pin box your trailer currently has? If it's a Leland 7921, 7920, or 7910 the Sidewinder part # ST400-SW19K would be the correct fit. There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer. Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have. That being said the jaws of the...

  • Replacing Pin Box on 2010 Jayco Eagle Super Lite with Sidewinder Pin Box
I can't find the AW7926 pin box number so to find the appropriate Sidewinder replacement you will need to do some measuring to find a comparable pin box to what you currently have. I've attached an article to assist with what measurements you need to take and then compare. There are usually multiple fit options, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get the proper fit. For instance the Leland 7920 can use # ST400-SW19K for 19,000 lb, # ST400-SW16K for 16,000 lbs, or # ST400-5AS16K for...

The Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapters are designed to replace specific pin boxes on your trailer. • Adapters for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a Gooseneck Hitch in a 2016 Nissan Titan XD
Yes, there are many options for towing a 5th wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch. I even wrote a help article on it which I have linked for you. But in terms of something like a Companion hitch that fits directly in the gooseneck ball hole then no, there isn't an adapter that fits the factory ball holes. The adapter I recommend is the Anderson Ranch Hitch # AM3100 because it will clamp to any 2-5/16 inch gooseneck ball regardless of the brand. I have included a link to a video review...

  • Can a Truck with a 5-1/2 foot Bed Tow a Gooseneck or Fifth Wheel Trailer with Turning Clearance
Honestly no, if it was a fifth wheel hitch you could replace the pin box with a Sidewinder like the # ST400-SW19K that you referenced. But there are no products available for gooseneck trailers that would allow a trailer as wide as what you are considering to have enough turning clearance with a bed as short as your truck's.

I checked out the installation instructions for a Reese Sidewinder and per the instructions the only time the wear plate is lubricated is during the initial installation.
