  • Towing capacity: 30,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 4,500 lbs - 6,500 lbs

Notes:

  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the king pin, which connects to the fifth-wheel hitch in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the king pin will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the king pin moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the pin's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Easily Check Your Vertical Load

Executive scale

The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.

This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (3,500 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs). A vertical load of at least 1,500 lbs is recommended for the built-in shock absorption to function effectively. This means that the scale's white indicator marker should be between the highest arrow and the middle arrow when you hook up your trailer to tow.

I think I should have done this a long time ago!
The ride is a 100% better and it's not even broken in yet.
E Trailer was great to deal with and will be using them in the future!

by:

Easy install but because of the quality of materials it’s pretty heavy! Just a fact, definitely not a complaint. Fast and on time delivery.

by:

Super fast shipping. Easy install. Heavy buggar so hired two young ones to hold it while I bolted it into place. Coming up into the 1000 mile usage mark and it is doing its job well absorbing road shock. In New York state now. PA roads are awful bumpy so it got several good tests.

by:

Arrived as expected and had the installation completed in about two hours. My expert salesman saved me alot of misery because I had intended to order the wrong hitch and he corrected the error. Excellant service and really refreshing to work with people who really care.

by:

We went for a 150 mile trip into the Adirondacks for a 3 day vacation and I thought the hitch worked great. We will really test it this winter on a 5000+ trip out west.

by:

Excelent king pin hitch, it takes 99% of the chucking out of the 5th wheel hitch.

by:

I installed the Gen-Y hitch on my 41 foot trailer with the assistance of my son. The trailer definitely rides more smoothly from inside the truck, and we seem to have less bouncing around in the trailer. Worth the money, in my opinion.

by:

Very nice looking hitch a little tough to put in with the shims. Don’t know why they can’t make a pin box that fits a 1716 without Sims it takes quite an effort to get the shim‘s lined up and put in. Can’t tell you how well it works yet. Haven’t got to pull with it yet

by:

etrailer is the absolute best to order from! The only thing I worst is I should have ordered the gooseneck one instead of the fifth wheel to get more bed space

by:

The benefits of an airbag hitch without the worry of air leaks. Drastically improves the the ride and drivability.
Thanks Gen-Y and etrailer

I installed the unit today. It appears to be well built. You should note that it is very heavy compared to a Rhino Box (120# v 50#). I inserted the pin box onto my fifth wheel hitch and then backed into place to mount it on the camper making it a one person job.

Some items to note…hardware is not included. GenY recommends grade 8 bolts. The original hardware was grade 5 on the rhino box. Also, I don’t like to retension high strength bolts, so I would recomend new grade 8 bolts. The rhino only had 10 bolts where I could get 12 in this one. Also note that the tag on the actual pin box says only good for 18000lbs (not 21000 as advertised). The tongue rating was as advertised 3.5k model) My camper is smaller so the 18000 lbs isn’t an issue.

Haven’t actually road tested yet, but I am confident it will improve ride.

WOW Not that I am surprised. etrailer knocked it out of the park again. From the knowledgeable fast and professional help from Representative Joanne K. My buying experience felt like I was buying from a friend. But then after the sale the follow through was unmatched. The GEN Y pinbox I ordered was not in stock but became available much earlier than promised and I got an email notifying me that in was in and being processed. Another letting me know that the item had shipped. Item arrived on time and very well packaged.Excited about getting the pinbox installed I was on my own with no one around. The install went Smooth and easy. Buying from a company that really cares about their costomers is getting to be such a rarity but etrailer went over and above to make my purchase fantastic. The GEN Y pinbox is well made and the fit and Finnish is beautiful. I can't wait to take it on our next trip.

by:

Hitch installed faster than I thought it would. Fit was great.

by:

I have a GD Momentum 395m. The tongue weight can very depending on the cargo in the garage on the back end. With that said, after 5000 miles, we have a noticeable difference in the ride and bouncing with the Gen-Y hitch making it more comfortable on some of the highways that are rougher than others throughout the US.

by:

Just got my gen y king pin delivered today. It took 4 old men 1 hour to put on using my truck and hitch. Easy installation. I’m a full timer so next month we will see how it rides. I got the gen y because it is 3 inches lower than the rotoflex. It shouldn’t hit my tonneau rails. I’m anticipating being Abe to turn 90 degrees without the pin box hitting my side rails. And it looks tough.

by:

Simple design, very robust construction, made a vast improvement in towing ride quality.
Easy install by myself, Engine hoist, utility cart and motorcycle jack...ya I have "stuff".
I will need to lower my B&W slide about 2inches to get back to level towing. Calculator that Gen Y has for selecton is spot on , I was a bit worried as my measured tounge weight was 2700 +/- lbs 22% of GVWR (14,400) was 3168 so I ordered the 4.5k model
When hiched for the first time...indicator was in the middle of the green (perfect).
Very happy ... next Im adding shock absorbers to see if i can smooth the trailer hop a bit more.

by:

I did receive the pin box right on time today and will be mounting it in next few days. I’ll let you know afterwards how it went, thanks for the follow up.
Randy

by:

Paired with the curt cross wing and tows excellent makes a big difference definitely recommend this product.

by:

I tow with a f-450 this hitch took away the rough ride. Long term probably will save many problems. Well worth the money.

by:

The Gen-Y hitch is well built and was easy to install. I haven't towed with it yet, but My expectations are very high that it will perform as advertised.

by:

I really can’t tell you anything, have put it on my trailer but haven’t pulled the trailer yet, but a very nice hitch, can’t wait to pull with i

by:

I have now traveled several thousand miles with the Gen-Y hitch installed and have experienced little if any improvement from my old rhino box pin box. I think that once again I have been influenced by the on-line “influencers”, which proves that they have done what they were rewarded to do.
That being said the experience of ordering and shipment along with keeping me informed along the way by etrailer was top notch. I have always had good experiences with etrailer.
Installed myself with no problems but glad I had a tractor to help with the lifting.

by:

This is exactly what I was wanting. Went on easy. Great fit. Fast shipping!

by:

We finally got a chance to take the RV out about a 500 mile road trip at first I had my doubts it Chucked real bad right out of the gate but less than 100 miles and it felt pretty good then on the return trip it worked really well. No checking at all. getting ready to take from California to Boston could probably give it a little better review at that time but so far it’s working out great

  • Longer Pin Box for 5th Wheel Towed By 2024 Ram 3500 Short Bed Using Trailer Saver BD5
Hi John; since that is a Lippert Rhino you will need the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 30,000 lbs - 6.5K TW # GY76PR. This is the correct pin box based on your GVWR. The distance from the center of the king pin to the first set of bolt holes is 16.631" so you will gain a little over 3" of clearance using this over the MORryde. As you pointed out below there are no rotating pin boxes that will accommodate that GVWR to give you the clearance you need. I...

  • Correct Gen-Y Pin Box Replacement for 5th Wheel With 17,695 GVWR and Rhino Box
Hey Blake, welcome back! Gen-Y has improved their pin boxes so they cover a wider range now. It looks like we need to update that chart since that also means fitment is based on GVWR alone. The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 30,000 lbs - 6.5K TW # GY76PR is the correct replacement pin box. This is designed to work with a GVWR range of 16,365-25,450 lbs. Any big plans with your 5th wheel this summer?

  • What Is The Difference Between The Pin Box GH-8071 And GY76PR?
Hi Clif! The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 30,000 lbs - 6.5K TW # GY76PR is the same thing as the GH-8071. We just changed the part number for our website as it was too similar to something else we carry and this was an easier way to differentiate the two. One thing to note though, the above Gen-Y pin box is rated for a pin weight range of 4,500 pounds to 6,500 pounds, so it may be a bit overrated (it looked like the typical hitch/pin weight of a 2022...

  • What Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box do I Need to Replace My MorRyde RPB72-FD?
Hello Jeremy, I sent that number over to lippert and they were not able to find anything. Can you please send me a picture of the sticker if it is still on there? Should have a S/N number and and RPO number, I included a picture of what the stickers usually look like. I am trying to get the pin box number of your current one, so I can recommend the correct one for you.

  • Which Gen-Y Pin Box Will Fit My 2013 Heartland Cyclone 3800 5th Wheel
Hey, James! Nice to see you again! The Gen-Y Hitch # GY76PR will not fit your 2013 Heartland Cyclone 3800. That model is designed for the Rhino bolt pattern, which did not start appearing on 5th wheels until around 2025. It’s very possible your Cyclone uses the Lippert 1621 bolt pattern, in which case the Gen-Y # GY68GR would be the correct option. However, we’ll want to confirm the exact pin box model you currently have before recommending anything. The easiest way to do that is to...

  • Will Additional Length of Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box Impact Clearance
Hi Blake; the additional 3-3/4" will actually increase clearance since the trailer will sit a little further back. If it was shorter and brought it closer to the cab clearance would become a concern. The # GY43GR is the 5.5k tongue weight model so make sure your GVWR x 0.22 = 3,600-4,599 lbs. If you have a different calculation you will need a different model and can choose from the following: -Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 21,000 lbs - 3.5K TW # GY86GR...

  • Gen-Y Executive Pin Box For Riverstone Legacy 43FB
Hey Gerry, welcome back. We will definitely have a Gen-Y Executive pin box for you, but they aren't make and model specific to the RV, so I will need a bit more info from you. Specifically I'll need to know what pin box size or bolt pattern you have now. Your current Curt pin box may have a sticker that say the size (Lippert 1621, Lippert Rhino ect...), but if not, there should be a manufacturer sticker up on the side of the pin box brackets that shows the model number/RPO number/serial...
