Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove some interior trim or carpeting to access the harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within your trunk or rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Great wiring set. Worked perfectly for my Mazda CX9!

Product was delivered on time and instruction were easy to follow.

by:
2012 Mazda CX-9

Purchased for a 2012 Mazda CX-9. The installation video and written instuctions provided were very helpful.

by:
2009 Mazda CX-9

Online video made install easy. Works great so far, but only 1 day old & have not towed distances yet.

by:

As advertised, install was straightforward, aside from bloody knuckles, value was average.

by:
2008 Mazda CX-9

Fast Shipping, Product as promised, Online Videos made insatlation as easy as possible considering the Mazda was not that easy to work on. Product works as promised

by:
2011 Mazda CX-9

The video instruction made it very clear, better than the written instructions that came with it.

Super easy install, I didnt have much experience with wiring before doing this, but the directions and color coding were exactly what I needed. The hardest part was running the wiring up to the battery, but even that wasn't to hard with a little help from my neighbor. Overall good quality and a great buy.

by:
2011 Mazda CX-9

Simple connections but red and green harness to passenger side needs to be about 8 inches longer to make running the wire easier and neater.

by:
2007 Mazda CX-9

This was overall very easy to install. The only pain was running the power wire underneath the car without touching anything hot or moving. I hope I did a good job...

by:
Mazda 5

I installed this on a Mazda5 and it works like a charm. It is hard to get at the connection points and that took some doing (and scrapped knuckles). I ran the power wire under the car and it seems to be working fine.

by:
2006 Mazda 5

I installed the harness per the instructions. O problem. The ground wire was loose on the trailer. This caused the new harness to blow the turn signal fuses in the car.

Replaced the fuse and fixed the ground. Works fine.

by:
2010 Mazda CX-9

Snaps in. Well built. I tapped into the 12v power from the rear accessory outlet. I found that this is live all the time and has its own 15 amp fuse. Should work just fine and made the installation MUCH easier and cleaner.

by:

Nice kit. this was by far the harder of the two (hitch) to install. I personally would rather have the 4 wire flat mounted outside the car by the hitch.

by:
2009 Mazda CX-9

Was delivered promptly and took 30 minutes to install install the hitch.

The wiring harness was a bit more work (1 hour), but worked excellent as well.
I would like to have the 4 pin blade wire go through the grommet vs hanging out the trunk, so I may cut the wires and reattach; but I am anal retentive that way.

by:
2012 Mazda CX-9

Installation was relatively easy. I decided to check operation before I closed up the panels on the car. Was I glad I did. The LH turn signal on the car was not working properly. After several attempts to disconnect and re-connect everything I decided to remove the unit and hook up the factory connectors. The turn signal then worked properly. Etrailer sent me a new unit and it works fine.

by:

Product is good. Does what it says and is simple to install. Not easy to install because of the amount of breakdown necessary to get to the connectors. The only drawback is running the line to the battery. Difficult, dirty, and time consuming, but not the fault of the product. Wish there was some power source back there that would suffice.

by:

I have the harness installed but did not had a chance to connect trailer and test the lights. I gave it a "Good" rating because the haness does not come with a grommet to use if one wants to permanently route the four pin flat connector under the car. I am not very happy about the routing through the tailgate opening when needed solution.

by:
2010 Mazda 5

The wiring took much longer than the hitch installation. I liked the videos describing the installation, but I used both the 2012 & 2010 (I have a 2011) videos because they each had their own tips and different shots. The wiring connecting the two T-connectors could have been longer (they even mention it in the video). Also, snaking the black wire from the back to the front of the car underneath wasn't very easy. All in all though, it was worth it to get the wiring and save the money by doing it myself.

by:
2012 Mazda 5

I didnt want to buy this harness as I didn't want to run a wire all the way to the battery. Well...I did. It works great. All the connections fit well. I fished the power wire through an existing hole below the spare tire. It took me 2 hours to lay under my Mazda5 and tie-wrap it up to the battery. If I would have been able to lift the car like at a shop I would have done it in 10 minutes. Anyway, glad I went with this unit. Lights are nice and bright on the trailer.

Mazda 5

Overall a good product. The video instructions on etrailer are much better than those included in the kit. Generic for a range of Mazda vehicles. For the Mazda 5 and/or if you have a 12v outlet in the rear area, you can splice into it instead having to run a wire all the way up to the battery, and you can run the trailer pig-tail out one of the spare-wheel well drain plugs by cutting a slot in it and then resealing it. Makes for a completely hidden installation.

  • Wiring Harness Module Worked For A Few Years Then Stopped Working
Hello Pete, thanks for reaching out. I do suggest you check your ground just to make sure, but it does sound to me like your module has gone bad and needs to be replaced. You can test the module by using a wire tester to test the input and output wires on the module. If the input signal is all good, but there is no output signal, you can be sure the converter module is bad. While the modules going bad is rare, it is not entirely unheard of. To replace it, use the Cut # 56016. I hope this...

  • Best Way to Add a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2010 Mazda CX-9
It sounds like you are talking about a 7-Way trailer connector. To install a 7-Way trailer connector on your 2010 Mazda CX-9 you will start by installing a 4-Way using harness # 118520. I have linked a video to the right showing how it installs. Then to add the 7-Way you will need # ETBC7. I have included a couple of links that explain the ETBC7 installation for you. If the trailer does have electric brakes you will need a brake controller to activate them. I recommend the P2 # 90885...

According to my research the 2012 Mazda CX-9 comes in various versions that have different towing capacities. The best way to determine your towing capacity would be to check the owners manual of your vehicle or contact a Mazda dealer with your VIN and they should be able to tell you the options...

  • Recommended Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2012 Mazda 5
We have just what you're looking for. I recommend using the Curt # C11127 because of the heavier powder coating on the Curt hitches compared to others. This is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver that is a confirmed fit on your 2012 Mazda 5. For a wiring harness I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness # 118520, which will tee into the plugs for your vehicle lights and provide you with a 4 way plug for trailer lighting. You will also need a ball mount similar to the Curt...

The Tow Ready T-One Connector # 118520 for your 2008 Mazda CX-9 will have a constant supply of power whether the vehicle is running or not since it is connected directly to the battery. However, it will not cause a drain on the battery because the trailer wiring circuits are not active when not in use. For example, the only time a draw is placed on the power wire is when the stop, turn, or taillight circuit on the vehicle is activated and the lights on the trailer are drawing amperage. I...
