Parts Needed to Install 7-Way Trailer Socket & Prodigy P2 Brake Controller on 2011 Mazda CX-9

Updated 04/28/2016 | Published 04/24/2016

Question:

I got my hitch from you, now I need a wiring harness. A trailer guy who is selling us a used camper says we should not get the flat four, but instead get the harness that also does brake control. Is this compatible with my Mazda CX-9 Touring? Thanks

If your camper has electric brakes then you will need a 7-way type trailer connector on your CX-9 in order to get the signals from a brake controller to its brakes. This is easily done.

You'll start with a 4-pole harness # 118520 and add our # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit, which includes all the components needed to convert that to a 7-way with all the appropriate lighting, 12V power and brake signals for the trailer. This kit also serves to complete installation of a brake controller like the reliable and highly-rated Prodigy P2 # 90885. I recommend this controller for its easy set-up and proven performance.

I have linked two videos and two helpful articles to aid your installation.
