Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed either in the jack storage compartment of your rear cargo area or beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure if you are mounting it near the hitch.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2003 Dodge Durango

Today on this 2003 Dodge Durango we're going to be installing wiring harness part number 118334. In the location of the ports we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into are located directly behind the tail lights of both the drivers and passengers side of the vehicle. In order to gain access to those these are two Phillips head screws per side, you just want to go ahead and remove those and allow the tail light to pop off. With the tail light pulled back you can see on the back side of the tail light is the connector we are going to be using. We will next need to go ahead and separate the connector from the tail light, and to do that if you look on the top side of the connector there is a red tab here, you want to go ahead and press it over, and that releases the safety clip, and then there is a push button release right here on the top as well, press that in, and pull the two pieces apart. We will go ahead and do that for the passengers side tail light as well and then we will go ahead and start plugging our harness in line.

So starting over here on the drivers side we are going to go ahead and start plugging our harness in line. There are two sets of connectors obviously one for the drivers and one for the passengers sides, and ones for the drivers side has the red, yellow and brown wires integrated into them. There's the one end of our connector into the vehicle side connector, and again we want to make sure we push our red tab over to lock it in. I'm going to hold off plugging the tail light back in to the other end just yet, because what we are going to need to do is take not only the passengers side connector, but the 4 pole end as well, and we need to get them underneath the vehicle and to do so we are going to feed them through the opening in the body and in the bumper here. Okay the next piece that we come to in our harness is the converter box here, and if you rotate it over you will see we've got double sided tape on it.

You want to go ahead and adhere to a part of the body structure here to keep from it jiggling around loosely as we drive along. What I am going to go ahead and do is clean out the underside of the bumper, and actually take and adhere it up underneath there like so. Okay with all that accomplished we could go ahead now and plug the other end into the back side of the tail light, and you could go ahead and put it back into place. Okay with the drivers side tail light on, we can continue underneath the vehicle now where were going to go ahead and route our remaining wires in place. The 4 pole I am going to go ahead and route to the center of the vehicle where you can either tie it off at your trailer hitch or use your mounting bracket to hold it in place.

And then we are going to go ahead and do the same thing with the passenger side connectors, however these obviously we will take all the way across and up through the opening between the body and the bumper on the passengers side. And then go ahead and repeat the same process over here on the passengers side. And with that, that will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118334 on a 2003 Dodge Durango.

It was everything I had hoped for. Everything worked as designed. No splicing into wiring. Just remove tail- lights, unplug connector, plug in wiring harness and plug factory wiring connector back in. All add-on harnesses should be like it. Total installation time 20 minutes 512010

Working perfect. As designed. My vehicle came w/factory wiring and burnt [built] in power module underhood. So this bypassed it and saved me a load of money. Great decision s ing. Plugs right in. Amazing.

Product was A-#1. no issues what-so-ever. The problem (as others have said) was the routing of the harness itself. So its more with the manufacturer of the vehicle. That said I had to cut and splice a few times to snake it through holes and lengthen the hitch wire a couple feet to make it fit... but it works. 510214

The product in itself is A+ but. routing the wiring is really confusing instruction wise. All the wiring components can be placed out in the jack well with the short dual plug and module on the drivers side. The tail gate trim removed and the side panel pried out and blocked with a piece of wood. On the inside of the wheel well you can route the cable through a square patch of rubber material. You have to get to this rubber material when you remove the tail light and remove the louvered panel. Once that panel is removed you can see and feel that rubber patch. Take a knife and cut through that patch big enough to feed the dual wiring connectors through. At this point your right hand will be feeding the cable under the pushed out panel and picked up by your left hand through the removed louvered panel. Remove the rubber plug and cut the plug down to the vehicle wiring. Route the new wiring through the rubber plug and push plug back into position. Unlock tail light connector and plug in new "Y" connector. With a little common sense you can take care of small details that are left. Repeat on right side. It helps to have small hands to get on the inside of the left and right trim panels. The trailer wiring, coming from the module can be routed through the spare tire access hole. You can cut a small slit in the rubber plug to make room for the cable to the under outside of the vehicle to the trailer! Hope this helps. I almost forgot the module has a removable paper mounting area on the back. You can remove the paper and stick the module on the inside of the wheel well. If you have large hands just leave it in place. Its no going any ware 478102

Worked perfectly first time - all trailer light. One small improvement can be made: The wire from the unit to the trailer itself is about 6 to 12 inches too short. I had to make holes in my trunk wall for a shorter route. NIce and easy to install. 393082

  • Wiring a Flat 4 Way Trailer Connector on a 1998 Dodge Caravan with Missing 4-Way Connection
  • If you are trying to replace the 4-Way connector on the rear of your 1998 Dodge Caravan you will need to wire a new 4-Way connector, item # 18004, by function using a circuit tester, item # 40376. Attaching a new trailer connector properly should solve your trailer lighting issues, as long as the converter has not been shorted out due to the wires being exposed from the original connector breaking off. If the converter, item # 118334, has been shorted it will need to be replaced. This...

  • Can a 2001 Dodge Durango Tow a 2004 Aero Lite Hybrid Trailer 3,800 lb Dry Weight
  • My information shows that the maximum towing capacity of the 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4wd with 4.7 liter V8 engine and 3.55 rear end gear ratio is 4,100 lbs. This means that if you were to tow a travel trailer with a dry weight of 3800 lbs you would only be able to add 300 lbs of gear to the trailer, including water, propane, trailer battery, and all of the other equipment you will need. You should check your specific vehicle max towing capacities in your owners manual or consult the vehicle...

  • Location of Brake Controller Installation Port on 1999 Dodge Durango
  • If your Durango left the factory with the Tow Package, it will certainly have the port for installing a brake controller. To install a Tekonsha brake controller like the Prodigy P2 # 90885, you'd need a brake controller wiring adapter, part # 3020-P. If your brake controller has the red, blue, white and wires exiting the rear, you can simply cut the black plug off the 3020-P and wire it to the controller color for color. The connector is located behind the emergency brake pedal. There...

  • What Do I Need to Install Draw-Tite T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on 2005 Chrysler Town and Country
  • The item you selected, Draw-Tite T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118300, will work for wiring the trailer lights to a 2004 to 2007 Town and Country. If you have a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country, Part # 118300, is the only thing you will need for wiring just trailer lights to your 2004 or 2007 Chrysler Town and Country. If you have an a 1997 model Chrysler Town and Country, you will need part # 118334, as it is compatible with the 1996 to 2000 model Chrysler Town and Country, and...

  • Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2002 Dodge Durango
  • If your 2002 Dodge Durango did not come with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector then you will need to hardwire in a brake controller. There are 3 parts you will need: 1) a 4-Way trailer wiring harness (unless the Durango already has a 4-Way) # 118334. 2) a 4- and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. And 3) a brake controller. I have included some links that explain this type of installation for you. If your Durango does have a factory 7-Way then the plug should be present under the...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Install Where Left Side Blinker Does Not Work
  • First thing to try is to just disconnect and reconnect the connectors of the # 118334. Sometimes just doing that will clear up any connection issues in the connectors. Now to further troubleshoot we need to test to see if the problem is before or after the converter box. You will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test for voltage going into the box on the left side turn signal. Then you will need to test for voltage coming out. If the voltage goes in but does not come...

  • Installing 4-Way Trailer Connector on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • Your 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan uses a separate wiring system, meaning that the brake and turn signals are sent along separate wires. Because of this, a converter is required and you will not be able to use the Hopkins Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM48035 referenced in your question. To install a 4-way connector on your Grand Caravan, I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118334. This includes the needed converter and the T-One connector will...
